I don't know if this is a nationwide policy or just here in Boston, but they've even said that the cafeterias in the airport can no longer make plastic knives available to customers. Good luck cutting your bagel!
I understand the need for increased security, but this is absurd. I always keep a very small Swiss Army knife [one small blade, a nail file/screwdriver, and a scissors] on my keychain, and it goes wherever I go. It is the single most useful item I own. And it's no more a "weapon" than a woman's long fingernails.
I think next time I have to go to California, I'll take a boat....

godzilla^ - Don't take that thing to the airport as it will be history.
An example of how silly it is. The islanders in the pacific had swords that were made of hard wood amd set sometimes with sharks teeth or shells. Completely non-metallic.
If you want to roll up a piece of hard shim stock say .010" thick, and you can apply it to a frame to hold it as a cutting edge by quick set glue or clamp and use a diamond covered pad to put an edge on it in a few minutes.
