Based on the FUN we are STILL having I would say the the "$ Sale on Bidville was FUN !" was a barrel of FUN AND a rousing, rib-tickling, better than canned peanut butter, lotsa bang for the buck success!
Of course what do I know? I'm easily amused by a lot of things

Well darn I have got to go look again, if everybody is still having FUN with the $ SALE, then I must go see what else I can find to buy.
Have been busy with funds coming in and shipping on the end of the sale items I sold, not had time to look closely.
So will do a search for the $ Sale signs, or what ever. Still some good buys I can bet.
Guess I will re list some of the items that didn't sell on mine too.

I'm having a lot of fun at BV. Even without the Sale. Maybe Ed can change the name to FunVille ... The Home of Funny People That Like Fun". Wait, that may be accidently associated with the term 'Funny Farm' so scratch everything after FunVille.

So, what's the problem with Funny Farms (he says with a pronounced twitch in his left eye ...)
PS - Contrary to "popular belief", when you you turn 30, Tim Leary does NOT come to get you, give you a robe, and ply you with his magic

Neither Rob, it's kinda sad.
I was a young adult through the 60's and I really thought Tim would come for me ... at least that's what my space-cadet friends used to tell me. Cr@p - they had pictures and everything.
Then I really grew up and found the truth. I found out some very bizarre facts about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy too.
But, this is a happy thread so I won't tell ya about those guys.
Are you enjoying the tapes??

By all means!
And, not to be a downer, but if you list them on eBay you'll make lots more than you paid for them
I can't sell any of my H-U-G-E collection there as I won't give them access to my credit card or bank account.

Cuff,
I love the Pillsbury dough boy too! Do you collect stuff relating to him? If you did and you were selling your extras, you could put it up on the next $1.00 sale. I would surely bid! STILL FUN

It was a lot of fun for me. A lot of fun that has turned into a lot of work. (NOT that I'm complaining). The sale has kept me busy from the week of the sale till now. I am covered up. Even with my higher end things. Most of my auctions are first bid wins. I did some early christmas and birthday shopping during the sale and have gotton some of them in already and LOVE them all. I just wish I had bid on more now. <sigh> I couldn't be happier with the sale and what it has done for Bidville and me.

Well, I read the whole thread and determined that some folks had...uh...FUN..at the Bidville sale. [I personally had fun on FLD on ebay (ducking! ; - )]
One question: were any of you able to determine whether the sale brought in new buyers to the site? I mean people who maybe aren't sellers themselves? Did word of mouth attract new people to Bidville who may stay to shop some more?
For now, I am using Yahoo as my backup plan to ebay, but every time I scan my general category [books] I am stunned by the downward spiral in number and attractiveness of the offerings. If Yahoo is squandering their name-recognition and the other sites don't HAVE any...then there will never be any real competition for ebay.

I cannot answer for others, but I do know of one person that had never been there before. She went, registered, and bought one item during the sale. If I am not mistaken she has been back and bought twice again since then. One person may not sound like much, but we are all just one person.
She commented to me about the actual aftersale process and showed me the emails she received. She said that the couple sellers seemed a bit less formal, then changed that and said maybe it was that the sellers seemed friendlier. She now takes a look in Bidville at least daily.

Correction to my last post ... I just finished talking to the Lady that registered at Bidville and bought during the sale. She just told me that she has talked to someone else that looked at her recommendation and that person has now registered there and bought.
Just like eating an elephant, one bite at a time ...

keziak,
I had three $1-SALE sales. None were from new buyers. One registered at Bidville in January 2001, the other two in February 2001.

hi deichen! I do love the Pillsbury Dough Boy! Sorta hated to devour him like I did, but I didn't see him in time, and well then I got into a feeding frenzy! (dim will explain the term "feeding frenzy" for us I bet!)It was FUN though, much like the $1-Sale at BidVille!!!

keziak as far as new buyers on that sale, most of my buyers were first time with no fb at all. I had also let my customers know about me moving to Bidville and got several thank yous for letting them know about it.
I would say over all that 3/4 of the buyers on my items were newbies. And that was good as far as I am concerned, means they are coming and taking a look.

"I do love the Pillsbury Dough Boy! Sorta hated to devour him like I did,"
I hope you at least gave him a belly-button-push first.
"(dim will explain the term "feeding frenzy" for us I bet!)"
To get it started, here are some variables that must be factored in:
1. Day of the week that the feeding frenzy occurred
2. Time of day that the feeding frenzy occurred
3. Prevailing weather conditions during the feeding frenzy
4. Age of "feeder(s)"
5. Age, colour, and amount of each serving, including percentage of water in each such serving
6. What the neighbour was feeding on
7. The alignment of the planets at the time of the feeding frenzy
8. The real definition of the word "frenzy"
9. etc.
Ouch ... my head is already hurting

I got to agree the Sale was a Feeding Frenzy, and who cares what the definition is really.
I think the Sale did what it should have done, it got people out and bidding, and selling and getting to know each other and brought in new blood to the site.
So Feeding Frenzy is really a good way to put it on that sale.
I see there are over 2000 items listed with either $1 Sale or the word SALE in their listings, so guess that works.

Apparently, quite a few auction sellers consider information on whether their $1-SALE buyers were new first-timers to Bidville a trade secret.
If you want to find out whether there were new first-timers participating in the $1-SALE, go to Search, select closed and sort by bids.
Here's a link that does just that:
http://www.bidville.com/search/word_search.asp?phrase_match=all&whole_words=no&shop_type=all&dollarsale=no&search_text=%241-SALE&parent=0&search_span=title&search_limit=closed&sort_by=bids+desc
Now begin clicking on the auctions, then the winner's userID, then on the About Me tab. There you'll find the winner's date of registration at Bidville.

I sure don't have any trade secrets--at least as far as the User history of some of my bidders. In fact, I think I posted about them to another thread in response to Dimview.
I can't remember the exact statistics, but I know I posted first feedback for several. Some of those had just signed up, others had been signed up for a few months but apparently not active. Some of those first feedbacks were on $1-sale items and others were for my regular items.
Once packages started arriving I started getting e-mails from my buyers thanking me and saying they're going to keep checking my auctions, and already have a repeat customer bidding on more auctions.

Why would anybody want to go to all that trouble to find out WHAT.
The point is, several of us have reported that we did in fact have new bidders to our auctions, enough said, they all said they had fun and thanks for putting the items. up.
Nobody wants to spend that much time finding out the facts ??? which of course make twiddly #*!@ difference to most of us.
FUN is the operative word here. And it was and still is.

I could not agree more. It was FUN and what is even more fun is watching people get so hopping mad when people at sites other than Ebay have fun! How long will it be before this fun site gets banned from discussion just like the other fun site? Then it will be EBay and nothing else on these boards and at that point, NOBODY will be having fun

The question was on getting an idea of how many new buyers there were. I simply gave a way to do it, but I wouldn't go through them *all* when a sampling of them would work just as well.
