SeekingAbsolution,

The purpose of this thread was to give hugs to those panicked. But I fear it has been hijacked.

Still, I am ready with ready hugs and smiles. {{{{seekingabsolution}}}

Don't know about where you are, but here the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and there is just a slight hint of Fall in the air. (Ragweed too unfortunately ) I just saw a chimpmunk run under a bush and he looked happy!!!

Don't panic, jt has a strang sense of the "perverse". Here, I have an extra paper bag you can breath into and if your lucky Deliteful will give you a "squeeze" and apply a band-aid. Don't you feel better already?

edited cause I must have been typing while Deliteful was....HI Delite!! See I told ya she'd make it all better!! You can still keep the bag (just in case)

The intent is to make you see it's always something. Like too much exposure to violence, it makes you immune. I read a board where EVERY thread is a panic attack. Now I just go, "Yeah, ok, the world might end today, so what's for lunch?". It's no fun to post stuff there because everyone is immune.
Lots more fun here.

You can have your thread back now. Sorry.

(((((hug))))))

Ack.

JT,

If posting links makes you feel better, then you are more than welcome to use this thread to find your own calm and peace.

If Zilvy asks for a hug, we'll know you've gone too far.

deliteful Thanks for the hugs and
zilvy - I took a few deep breaths into the paper bag, and the world is starting to come back into focus!

I just have to learn to stop watching the news 24 hours a day. Doesn't help the panic...

I need some distractions!

NC is awfully close to TN. And Florida, well that plane has yet to turn up.

How about the case of Anthrax PBS is reporting in Palm Beach County, Florida?

This is it but the man had recently traveled to NC.

Here is another link to show how rare it is:

Probably a purfume bottle broke in the mail. I was stuck in line yesterday near an old lady that had some noxious stuff on that could have brought a horse to it's knees.

This is the first incident that has been reported that somewhat concerns me. Considering that there have only been about 20 cases of anthrax reported here in the last century and the last one was in 1976, 27 years ago, and the media has been absolutely innundated with concerns about biological warfare, especially with the crop dusting reports and then this case suddenly pops up seems almost too coincidental. It could still be an isolated, unrelated case, but if so, how incredibly ironic.

In another CDC link, I read that only one case is cause for alarm.

"The cause of a disease or even the occurrence of something unusual may be very difficult to determine, especially if the initial cases are few. Surveillance needs to be more than routine. Not only unusually high rates of illness but also unusual diseases should signal a warning. For example, even one case of inhalation anthrax should cause immediate concern and action.

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/EID/vol5no4/pavlin.htm

We don't know if it is a case of "inhalation" anthrax. I hope that it is just incredible irony.

CNN did report it today as pulmonary anthrax, the type contracted through inhalation, and even called in their in-house medical expert to briefly discuss it. Whether or not the specific diagnosis was adequately confirmed though, I don't know. Could have only been another rumor that it was that type. The news channels haven't been too responsible in double-checking sources, and I haven't tuned back into one of them since this afternoon.

http://www.cnn.com/2001/HEALTH/conditions/10/04/us.anthraxcase.ap/index.html

Here's CNN's story which apparently confirms it as pulmonary and some of the information that I mentioned above. The last case for this type was 1976 and it is almost always fatal.

I certainly don't think there's any cause for alarm, but also am not convinced that there isn't some connection between this case and the WTC attack.

Well, I WAS hanging in there pretty good, getting along & back to normal (Normal being a relative term in this house) BUT the last 2 days have put me back on edge:

Yesterday - wake up to bus driver's throat slashed, bus crash, multiple casualties, but I'm NOT supposed to worry cause the hijackers ID was Croation? (I worked with Iranian's during that conflict and every one of them identified themselves as Persians, to avoid any confrontation!)

Today - wake up plane explodes & crashes, but I'm NOT supposed to worry cause it appears that it was shot down in a military accident. When the Ukrain is claiming they don't even HAVE missles capable of shooting down a plane?

This afternoon - putting away laundry & hear the TV talking about the Anthrax case, but I'm NOT supposed to worry cause 1) It's only one case 2) It's not contagious 3) "we have an ample supply of antibotics for 2 million people" (uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we just might be a tad short on that supply!)

I think I'm going to Defcon 5!

Well, I'm going to stop reading!!!

The last article indicated that there is an overwhelming demand for the antibiotics that can be used with anthrax...Druggists in the area covered by this story are running out.

To put it simply the Ukranians are lying. They just aren't as good at it as the US military. Probably because they have a long history of not needing to lie because if you didn't like what they were doing tough!

The SA5 has about a 300 km range. That's about 190 miles.

With the limited visability an airliner has they probably never saw it comong.

I must admit that in the past couple of years I have begun to wonder about *our* military. What with a sub surfacing right into a surface ship, a navy warplane bombing & killing some of our troops during an exercise, missiles missing during target practice, military planes & helicopters crashing, Air Force pilots killing folks in ski gondolas, etc....

Anthrax is deadly, but Ebola (and the like) is AWFUL. What worries me is how many relief workers, missionaries, military do we have near the Afgan border? I do not want anything like Ebola!

No Helen, no plane, and I don't think the truck has turned up either. Haven't checked recently.

Why panic, we're all dying anyway!

The fatality rate of ebola and anthrax is around 90%.

This is a portion of an article that was in my local paper this morning:

Associate of two terror suspects sought info on Canton's water system
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An associate of two men indicted in Detroit in the terrorist investigation did library research on Canton's water system and animal-born diseases, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

The newspaper said in its Friday edition that the man, who had identified himself at the Stark County District Library last summer as an Egyptian, asked for detailed maps of Canton’s city water system and books on parasites and diseases that can be passed from animals to people.

The librarian who talked to the man asked to remain anonymous, the newspaper said. The librarian and the FBI withheld the man’s name.

The librarian called the FBI after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks amid heightened concerns about public safety.

The man told the librarian he worked at a Winesburg chicken farm where Karim Koubriti, 23, and Ahmed Hannan, 33, also worked before moving to Detroit in March.

Koubriti and Hannan, both natives of Morocco, had rented apartments in Canton. They were indicted last week in Detroit and have pleaded innocent to fraud and misuse of visas, permits and other documents.

Bioport. Yes, I want that product in my body.

After the federal Food and Drug Administration cited the plant for numerous manufacturing problems and threatened to revoke its license in 1997, Michigan sold the operation to BioPort for $25 million.
