No one mentioned the resemblance of the guy with the upraised arm to Don Quixote.

I think I will wait on the second part of the question, because I dont know how to ask it without it coming out weird. Or wrong. But thanks for answering the first question.

One thing about what we face now, it is not Viet Nam and the military men and women defending our country are not fools on a foolish mission.
I think some need to quit living in the past and realize what is going on today.

Isn't that two things?

CNN just announced that they're expecting to have a statement from an Al Quaeda representative in a few minutes which, presumably, they will broadcast.
Why do they give these killers the time of day? Why do they make it easier for them to incite further violence?

Very nice. The statement was just broadcast and in it Bin Laden's right-hand man exhorted Muslims to join the Jihad, pointing out that there are American interests everywhere in the world just waiting to be attacked. He said the youths who flew the planes into American buildings did a "good deed" and noted that they have thousands more youths who look forward to dying the same way we look forward to living. He said the "storm of planes" won't stop, that we've opened a door that will never be closed, that they will use all the "materials" at their disposal, and that the battle won't leave our country until we leave theirs, until we stop supporting Israel, and until we lift the blockade against Iraq (a list of demands, basically).
Thanks for getting the word out, CNN.
btw, Bin Laden was nowhere to be seen.

I'm still wondering if bin Laden is actually in Afghanistan. I've heard no reports that verify his presence there except for the statements from the Taliban, which of course could be intentionally misinformative. I'm reasonably certain that he could have left Afghanistan earlier, even before the attacks, if that was part of his strategy. I am seriously wondering how he intends to play this.

Wouldn't you?
Even if he didn't leave before the attacks, he still had almost a month afterwards.
And heck, if he plans on sticking around, he need only hide out among the civilians we're not targeting. He's probably chowing down on U.S.-provided rations even as we speak.

He's likely still in Afghanistan, but then I wouldn't really be surprised if he's not. I suppose it depends upon whether or not he wants to appear to be a martyr. Neither would it surprise me though if it were sometime discovered that he was safely hidden in China or Russia if it somehow furthered their own geopolitical ambitions.
