I didn't realize that Fred. If I may ask, did your son lose his eye and hearing in one ear from an accident or an illness? Is there a time frame where one could be confident what you've explained could happen, wouldn't happen? Or is it something where one must just hope it never happens?

Linda_K, a neighbor of ours was blinded in one eye during cataract surgery years ago. Within a few years he was blind in the other eye as well(no cataracts there). His wife said that it was sympathetic. They had visited eye clinics in New England and at Johns Hopkins, but I don't know whether their doctors told them that the loss of sight in the second eye was sympathetic. He was in his late sixties when this happened so I don't know whether it could have been age related.

Linda our Son, I caused the lost of my Son's eye. It was a freak accident. He was 5yrs old. Should it happen it will be within 3 to 8 months. This is what our Doctor told us.
His loss hearing was from a birth defect. He was 14yrs old.

saabsister - Thanks for sharing about your neighbors loss. That must have been real hard to deal with. It's hard for me to imagine being without my sight or not being able to hear. I know I would adjust but it would be a hard thing to go through.
Fred - Oh boy. I'm so sorry. When my uncle was a young teenager (working on the farm) my grandfather accidently hit him in his left ear with a huge wooden stud. He had picked this barn stud up and then quickly turned around, not knowing my uncle was standing right there. He ended up losing his hearing in that ear. Never lost his hearing in the other one, and he's now 86. I had never heard of the 'sympathy' loss you and saabsister have shared. Learn something new all the time.

gravid - do you have digital aids? My son has had these for only a year and they've been in repair three times. He didn't have this much trouble with breakage when he was three years old with the old fashion type.

What I have been wondering is why Limbaugh's deafness was brought to our attention. Other than the fact that he is a fellow human being, why should I *care* if he is going deaf? He may also have hemorrhoids, but so what?

Even if deaf, he can still express his political views through publishing, perhaps in the form of a newspaper column, or books.
Of course, the danger there is that his words will have to stand on their own and be evaluated solely on the basis of what he says rather than how loudly or obnoxiously he says it.

Spaz
But his followers would have to be able to read. This is tragic. It would well change the whole direction of American political thought.

Yeah Phonak - Claro digitals, so far no breakdowns. And I have the remote controls built in a watch.
Gotta go make chili.
