actually it was not so short of a notice they are not just turning picture off on users auction or deleteing the phots stored on there server.
You have 30 days to decide what you want to do.
My read on the announcement is that you can continue uploading images for four more days, then your auctions will run with those images for thirty more days.
After that Bidville will no longer host the images of sellers that are not Premier or Premier Plus members, and begin the process of deleting their images. That will result in thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of listings with red X boxes.
I don't see first time visitors being favorably impressed with a mess like that.

I still dont see what the big deal is. Your ISP should provide you with more than enough space to host images, and if they dont find another like I did. I think bidville is being more than fair by letting current pictures up for 30 days. This is nothing compared to ebays famous "its only a dollar" statement, and they fee sellers to death! Some of these bidville bashers need to concentrate their energy on eBay who really needs it.

My images have always been uploaded to my own website, so I am not impacted by the end of free image hosting.
What I find rather absurd is that Bidville allowed 99 relists AND free image hosting, so now there's the prospect of having tens of thousands of listings with red X boxes. And since virtually all of them have been inventory warehoused, they will relist over and over again, some for another two years.
The next several months should be very interesting.

Dim, they'll be no problem with the tens of thousands of auctions with red x's where photos should be. Know why? Because nobody hardly looks at the auctions anyway. That's not bashing, that the honest to goodness truth.

Also there are already thousands of red X auctions as there is the rule that if no pageviews for 30 or 90 days ( not sure how days it is ) the photo was/will be deleted by Bv. With the total lack of traffic at Bv thousands of auctions fell victum to the inactive pageviews equal deleted photos policy that was instituted months ago. Bv cited a change of image hosting services necessitated that move.

Checked the Bidville's announcement board and you're right. For images uploaded before April 1, they are deleted if not viewed for 90 days, after April 1 they are deleted when the referenced auction is deleted.
Wonder how many *really* dead listings there are.

Bidville while not commiting suicide today certainly cut themselves badly.
The prez give yahoo robot type answers, doesnt feel the need to email membership when policy changes etc.
Shoddy business and I am sad to see it.

Auctionbytes ran an interesting article on online store building systems. It can be viewed at:

It mentions quite a few other sites that have not been discussed in this thread.

Guess I don't understand the big complaint. They did not promise free image hosting forever. Just free basic listings. If they started charging a listing fee, I can understand why people would be upset. I find the $10 membership worth it, I can get a front page listing for 50 cents, and my sell-through rate for those auctions is pretty high.
