Thanks, Diana...
I gather that you're saying, if AW were to be sold, we would have enough time to remove our info, before the new owners got ahold of it. Theoretically, at least.

I feel real real bad for the moderators losing their jobs like so many people are right now.
I have to go read those guidelines and see if that means unmoderated I can post nude on the roll call.

As long as it's not maxed-out.

DianaAW: Please note that although we are not actively moderating, we do still expect our members to abide by the User Agreement with regards to message center use.
Okay, I'll bite. So what does that mean? Are you saying that moderation will now consist of simply removing unwanted posters from the boards without the formality of warnings? How will the new non-moderation differ from what we have now, other than suspensions will now be provided without warning?
For example, what happens if I say "****?" What if I say it twice? What if I say "**** you?" Do I simply disappear in the night?

I can see the need for credit card verification on an unmoderated board so that is no problem for me.
I really appreciate the excellent job that Pat, Joice, Michelle, Marty, Sara, and Smitty, have done!!!

I'm staying--already registered to used the AMPro & image hosting.
If folks don't think that their info hasn't already been sold by any number of other business they ever used their CC with, they're fooling themselves.

I'm sure that it's not that difficult to figure out, but how does one go about submitting the CC information?
Who knows, I might even decide to start selling some again if I become sufficiently bored.

Better read the agreement carefully before you hand over your CC info:
"AuctionWatch may change the Fees Policy effective seven days after those changes have been posted on our website and may add new fees effective immediately upon posting the new fees."
Bolding mine.
Forget anything they post here, this is what you agree to if you hand over your CC info.

In which case you simply cancel your account if you don't whatever new fees, if any, are imposed.

But what if you have been on vacation for 6 months and you come back and owe AW $10,000?
Diana, Will users be notified by EMAIL before incuring charges?
I think this stinks. Never had to hand over my cc to CHAT anywhere.

Do you often go 6 months without looking at your credit card statement?

I don't know.
The only company on the Innernet I've given my CC was Amazon. And, I haven't even bought from them in ages.
I'm not quite as free with a charge card as some folks, and something about this does not sit well with me. I just don't see the necessity. My gut tells me there is something more to it.
Besides, I have yet to see an unmoderated board that hasn't become an ugly free-for-all.
But, yet, there are some people on this board that I cannot imagine not having in my life.
I've lost too many friends, and it deeply saddens me to think I might lose more.

Interesting question about ebay buying AW.
They bought out Auction Assistant....
Are you sure there will be no fees if one registered their CC just for the message board?

I don't use their payment services and would certainly never give them a credit card.
I guess they don't understand there are auction message boards all over the place that do not require a credit card to post.
So, I am outta here.

My AW ID and my ebay ID are different. With people talking about the possiblity of ebay acquiring AW it got me thinking. Would we have to change our AW ID to match our ebay ID? Just curious.
Also, my CC # is on file with AW for billing purposes. Do I need to give it again or give another CC # to be able to stay on the message boards?

I think my ponderment is over. If I truly believed that AW wouldn't become a new eBay tool in the next few months, I'd have no reluctance to give them my cc information.
I hope, like other decisions, this one will be changed before the deadline to grandfather in those registered now. I doubt it though because if this is what a future buyer wants, this is what a future buyer will get.
I like the board and I like the posters a lot. I've learned tons and gotten tons of laughs. The mods have been terrific also.

There are too many good posters who will still be here not to take the time to listen and learn from.
It's far too early to be burning bridges.

Perhaps someone will begin a "Posting by Proxy" business. They can provide the CC, and then those who can't or won't register, can email their comments to the person running the PBP business. Then the PBP can post the comments, with appropriate mention of who's comments they are.

I'm out.
Should make my computer time more productive.
I'll miss sharing info on EO. AW will sorely miss the generosity of poster knowledge. Bad move, IMHO.
Sounds like another footstep in "The Beginning of The End".
