The Little Drummer Boy in English by the Vienna Boys Choir, cello and drum accompany. Beautifully done. It will glass the eyes of even the hard hearted atheist.
Come they told me, a new born King to see.. pa rump pa bump bump bum....
Little baby, I am a poor boy too......
I have no gifts to bring....
I played my best for Him.....

Hell, I have enough trouble following the regular post, much less all the insider stuff. You have to remember I've only been here a little over a year.

All right, you're excused -- PROVIDED that you sing this:
Jingle bells, frelling bells, dingbats all the way,
Oh what fun it is to post with no Mod's here today.
HEY!
Dashing through the boards, in a sh!t-disturbing way,
Oh what fun to reap what's sewn and call it another day.
HEY!
Jingle bells, something smells, lingo all the way...

My favorite traditional Chrismas song is "Oh Holy Night" as sung by Reba McEntire (my husband's cousin). She does an excellent job of hitting *that* note.
My favorite non religious songs (remembering that Jesus is the reason for the season) is
"I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas."
and "Santa Baby" as sung on Ally McBeal.
Not my name on ebay.

I think my fav is "Oh Holy Night" too but I like to hear it sung by a man with a very deep voice. Also "Sweet Little Jesus Boy."

I REALLY Love Christmas Music (and this is STRANGE, because I am Indifferent as to the Holiday itself). But My TWO Favorite (sorry cannot seperate) Songs of the Moment are "Merry Christmas Darling" by Karen Carpenter (Truly BEAUTIFUL Rendition), AND "My Little Drum" by The Vince Guaraldi Trio (From a Charlie Brown Christmas album, Truly ONE of the Greatest Albums of all Time, Christmas or ANYTHING), a Truly GREAT Instrumental. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

As a librarian, I am fond of this one:
God Rest Ye Good Librarians
(sung to the tune of "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen" )
God rest ye good librarians, let nothing you dismay
Remember by informing it the problem goes away
The patron with unanswered questions hasn't got all day
So-o tell them that you'll help them when you can--not until then
Just tell them that you'll help them when you can
They want to know where Beirut is and what's considered porn
And how to build an atom bomb and who produces corn
And why the bathrooms on this floor the janitors do scorn
So-o tell them that you'll help them when you can--not until then
Just tell them that you'll help them when you can
How high can Brahmin cattle jump and where to books renew
The batting profile of the Mets, the formula for glue
And what's the average landspeed of an adult kangaroo
So-o tell them that you'll help them when you can--not until then
Just tell them that you'll help them when you can

bunnicula - I love that and so will my son's librarian godmother
I've never really liked "traditional" Christmas carols. I love "Santa Baby" (Eartha Kitt not that whiney toothpick masquerading as a woman from Ally McBeal) and one my kid sings "Deck the Shed".
An old friend used to sing this every year:
See that drag queen his name's Molly.
Fa La La La La La La La La
For 50 bucks he'll make you jolly.
Fa La La La La La La La La
See him in his gay apparel.
Fa La La La La La La La
You should meet his brother Carol.
Fa La La La La La La La La
And in case I get busy working or AW knocks a plug out of the wall and they don't notice, I want to wish each and everyone of you (even the whiney annoying PITAs) a safe, happy and tolerable holiday season with people you love or at best, the people don't like but feel obliged to spend time with them because you come from the same gene pool.

Have a fun holiday, sweetpotato, and everyone else.
We've decided to accept an invitation to spend Christmas with friends so we'll be traveling and quite a bit left to take care of beforehand.
I like most Christmas music, religious or secular, humorous or serious, with exceptions that I haven't any reason for that I can figure out. Just don't like them. Chestnuts Roasting.. and O Little Town of Bethlehem are two that come to mind right away that I wouldn't care if I never heard again.

Have a good holiday then, Antiquary. Your post above reminded me of a stand-up bit Paula Poundstone did about the Church for Atheists -- it was considered perfectly religious there to sing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall

Thank you, both. Try to behave.
I have a couple of friends who are Unitarian who said that they used to sing the "plastic Jesus" song in "Sunday School." Sounded kinda neat but they've never done a really enticing communion.

PLS, very funny. But be careful. I think you're standing under the mistletoe.
Since it hasn't been mentioned, I like "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire" or whatever it's called. Also, "Little Saint Nick" by the Beach Boys. And what would Christmas be without the Chipmunks?

Joy To The World
Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him to drink his wine
And he always had a mighty fine wine
Sorry ... I had to go there ... made me smile ... and today I need it
Actually, the real Joy To The World is beautiful and is one of my all time favorite songs.
Merry Christmas, all!
