As someone who has walked into buildings and "felt" presences, on two occasions in public building where the locations I mentioned exactly matched previous occurences I come from a very different viewpoint.
My father has spoken to family members who are total non believers. He has answered a question I put to him thru my daughter. I not only feel his presence at times, I can smell him.
I have watched John Edward for a long time and followed Sylvia Brown. I have actually been interested in the afterlife since I was a very young child.
Guess what? I do not call it a gift. Sometimes it is downright scary and believe me, it is not something I want to be able to feel, it is not something my daughter wants to experience. It just is.
I do not try to back it up with the Bible. I did, however, have a discussion about it with my father's minister. He told me this story:
When his son was young, he had an imaginary friend named George. They even had to play along and set a place for George at the table! Years went by and his son grew up. One summer they took a vacation at the beach. The Minister got caught in the tide, he was too far away from shore for his son to help. He felt himself going under when all of the sudden he felt himself lifted up and moved to where the water was calmer. When he reached the shore his son had a look of amazement on his face. He said, "I have not seen George in a long time. He is the one who pulled you out of the water and got you to safety."
As I have said before:
For those who believe no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, no explanation is enough.
