Well, DUH, I guess zero would qualify as a bottom, but I'm not sure how they are going to keep saying "the results are as expected" too much longer. They probably have to crunch some numbers first. Let's see, how much money will be generated from listing fees if there's 200,000 auctions? < grin >
yankeejoe	posted on February 8, 2001 07:51:51 AM new Let's be generous and assume 500,000 auctions, with a one week duration...that would be 400k a month in revenue. That won't even show up on Yahoo's revenue radar. Now factor in the loss of advertising impressions due to lower page views? Was this really a good idea, Yahoo? Even from the almighty dollar view?

pyth00n	posted on February 8, 2001 09:56:33 AM new A couple of previously-robust collectibles categories I'm watching look to be at the 90% loss level right now with an extreme likelihood of losing 50%-75% of what's left between now and midnight. Looks like a Dimview Index number in the very low 20K's by tomorrow, indicating a total listing of 200K-250K. I am in fact TRYING to find a strategy of price ranges and featuring in select areas that makes ongoing participation sensible. There might continue to be enough buyers to justify listing, in fact; but I remain discouraged and skeptical. This final steepest percent-basis collapse of numbers today and tonight will be really obvious to buyers.
comicscardsandmore	posted on February 8, 2001 10:05:20 AM new Just a short note to thank everyone who has been monitoring and posting the auction numbers these past few weeks. I find it morbidly fascinating watching how a company self destructs day by day. Speaking for myself, if they would publicly own up to their mistake, retract the fees and go back to the 'old' Yahoo (even with the horrendous customer service), I would list there again even though this whole escapade has opened my eyes up to all the other sales/auctions opportunities available on the net. At this point it may be too late, since sites like Bidville are kicking some major butt and I'm seeing my sales there increasing quite nicely. I don't wish the Yahoo people any ill will, but if they want to save this aspect of their company, they should do something - anything other than watch the water drain out of the tub, metaphorically speaking.

Should put the category at a 95% loss level by tomorrow morning. Oh, but no biggie, silly me. Baseball cards from the 90's aren't "quality" auctions anyway, are they? Clears gobs of memory and processor power out for them to be gone, dontcha know?
John10101	posted on February 8, 2001 01:04:11 PM new Hi folks, Updated chart at http://homestead.juno.com/john_r_wong/files/yahoo.jpg My total yesterday was 421K items so there's only a 9% difference between my total and that other fellow's (used to be 25%). If the gap can narrow to within, say, 5% I'd call that a match since that could be accounted for by variations during the day. If that other fellow is taking the total in the parentheses, I think it's more accurate to take the totals from the top of the category pages since the totals reported in the parentheses lag the true category total. Hint, hint Of course, it's best to actually count each item (removing duplicates), but I think the totals at the top of the category pages are accurate. John

My last auctions end tonight and I'll continue moving them to Bidville. I've had some success there so far but I don't care if I park them forever with little movement. Yahoo's behavior and business acumen is suspect and I don't want to be associated with it under these circumstances. Good Luck everyone. Be Happy

mommakat	posted on February 8, 2001 09:11:40 PM new I never kept specific track of auction listings at yahoo.. but b4 christmas, beads:glass had at least 61-65 pages of beads (at 50 listings per page) at any given time.. I know that cause I was trying to figure out where my listings were falling ( usually in the late 20s ) today I checked and they have 5 pages listed, 223 auctions total. (my listings are not on the list at all.. I closed my last auction mid-jan.) I miss yahoo, pre-fee. Mommakat

There is a big part of me that is glad to be free of YAHOO auctions, their automated and irrelevant responses to questions, and their recent condescending attitude toward sellers. Yet I can't help but being a little sad watching the demise of the only auction site that had a prayer of giving eBay a run for their money ... but I guess Yahoo mistakenly took that euphanism literally [ edited by Saffyland on Feb 8, 2001 10:02 PM ]
