Interesting that there's now a record high number of "sportscards" listings, and that includes the SPORTMANIA event; the number of "all other categories" listings is just a few hundred away from a record low.

Hi Dimview, Yes the numbers are up for sports Stuff after the Sportmania event.that is somewhat expected.
The idea behind the individual main category type sales is to learn how to grow the individual category. Now, hopefully, some of the lessons learned from Sportmania can be used to help build other categories.
We started with Sport Stuff because it is the largest, therefore we would be better able to see dramtically what the changes occur. Thereby making it easier to learn what worked overall, and for each individual lister, or what doesn't work. Also, in the event of making mistakes, they would probably have less impact on the site overall.
Now some of these lessons can be applied to other categories, such as the Craft Sale in October.
I would also expect to see the differences in listing precentages change somewhat drastically in November when we do our HOLIDAYSALE for many seasonal gift and decorative items.

So the sports section should go down percentage-wise soon? The 'Crafts and Hobbies' section should go up and stay up during and after the sale. I think that every craft they could muster is already listed but we'll see what transpires soon. Crafts and Hobbies 9/8
8,243 items

Take a look through the featured auctions pages. Looks like about 80% of the auctions receiving bids are sportscards. BV has evolved into a sportscard center. There was a flap over the lone BV seller that listed a huge amount of sposts related auctions during the recent SportsMania sale and the adjusted sell thru rate for the sale. How about an asterisk on the 'featured auctions' sell thru rate showing what percent of sales ( bids actually because of reserve auctions not being met ) were sportscards?
posted on September 15, 2001 09:44:54 AM new
Yup. Bidville's sell-through rate is skewed toward sportscards, just as another auctionsite's is skewed toward military memorabilia. Put an asterisk beside the overall numbers, and then factor out the sportscard sales here and the military memorabilia sales there, and the resulting "all other auctions" sell-through rates are even more pathetic.

Do those numbers agian Dimmyboy, I listed 56 items of $10-$500 and sold one @ $15 (a 1950's boy scouts shirt). and NO cards. haha ha haha haaaaaaa. AND JOICE YOU ROCK BABY!

Lately much has been written of the leader of ePier. In that light, the leader of Bidville has a 'history' of giving up on his website 'creations' and even giving up on a medical career late into the necessary training. It should come as no surprise when the day comes that an announcement is made that BV will cease operations due to the unprofitability of the site.

Bidsbids,
You are totally off base. What is it that you have against bidville, anyway? My prediction is that you are a Dimview wannabe, but without Dim's unique abilities. You should put your efforts towards something positive and good. There is a lot of evil out there right now and you could help.
Corrected a word ~ thankyou Bidsbids for pointing that out. Now maybe you can go into the real world.

"There is a lot of evil out there right now and you good help."
Very eloquently put. Maybe an English major wannabe in the making.
Another aspect of the BV Prez's character to consider is his reneging on the NoBidding.com prize program and left a lot of members of that failed site holding the bag. The ePier Prez has his faults but so does the BV Prez.

bidsbids, statsstats, bluesky?
Comparing ePier to BidVille is once again apples and oranges. The BV Prez changed nothing without -plenty- of notice and BV is STILL FREE. You have no basis for comparison.
751,183 listings at BidVille Auctions at the time of this writing...
There was no mass exodus Sept 1st at BV as predicted. In fact, the only backlash BV suffered during August was a brief period of digital terrorism in the form of bogus bids and false negative feedback to selected Sellers who have a tendency to disagree on the boards with certain individuals.
The message board chaos and fraudulant bidding was trimmed down considerably after BV instituted a new sign-up policy which eliminates the unbridled use of Hotmail and Yahoo email addies by those attempting to derail BV or it's Sellers. Those emails may be used only after a primary email is submitted and on file.
It's soooo much nicer at BV now. I think AW should institute the same policy.

How intuitive! You are correct - I am not an English Major. Now, I am just guessing.......you aren't either. JMO
At least, I now understand where your animosity comes from. You were at No Bidding and lost your bonus points.

I do not see what apples and oranges have to do with comparing and evaluating auctionsites.

Correct. One week's notice of the image hosting policy, perhaps some might consider that "plenty" of notice.
You have no basis for comparison.
I do not see how this conclusion can be made.

And no sales reports for the weeks ending September 5 and September 12 to go along with it, you know, for comparison purposes.
There was no mass exodus Sept 1st at BV as predicted.
I do not recall seeing any such "prediction."

Really? It looked a bit more involved than that to me.

Has Bidville been able to block several thousand sites providing web-based e-mail addresses?
It's soooo much nicer at BV now.
Sell-through rate increases are of more interest to me, than messages with rows of smiley faces in chatboards.
Wherz the bidderz?
I think AW should institute the same policy.
AuctionWatch should be logging the IP addresses of those posting messages here. The disruptions of late are generally in TOS violations for which their ISP accounts can be closed.

Hello dim... I see you are posting for bidsbids now. Thank you for addressing each and every word I stated. I believe the announcement was made, yet it did not go into immediate effect. Sellers had over a month in which to work on their auctions and to decide between options such as Premier membership, using their own web space at their isp, or using a free pic upload site.
"Has Bidville been able to block several thousand sites providing web-based e-mail addresses?"
I don't know, but I tell you one thing... BV is not infested any longer. Yippee!
"Really? It looked a bit more involved than that to me."
I'm sure you were watching with great interest. Stay tuned...

"I think AW should institute the same policy."
That's a good idea, because some AW users get suspended then get a new ID moments later. Know anyone like that? You should. "Hipocracy is the greatest sin".
BTW, Bidville is still wide open to cyber disruption as the blocking of hotmail emails was a very, very minor fix. BV is very lucky that the mischief makers have apparently grown tired of 'nowheresville' auction site. Of course they could be riled into a rebirth by annoying posters here. I hope not.

I know of no one personally who has been doing that bidsbids. I use my isp email for all my auctions related business including AW, and always have. How many ID's do you have?
The mischief makers experienced a sudden cut-off and possibly a little fear relating to acts of fraud and the steadfast reporting of such incidents online to the IFCCFBI.

Right Cuff You never got a new ID after being suspended. Your disavowal is quite an indicator of your true integrity.

Dimview,
To refresh your memory.
Your reply to another post today.
post - "There was no mass exodus Sept 1st at BV as predicted."
Your reply - "I do not recall seeing any such "prediction." "
Here is your statement of 7/31 from a thread that you started called "a Bidville listings forecast". The last post to the thread is 8/1.
"What we don't know is how many auction sellers are currently using Bidville's image hosting, but we're sure going to find out starting tomorrow. I'm looking for a continuation of the decline as sellers are confronted with the image hosting requirements."
posted on September 17, 2001 02:18:00 PM new
Does .... "I'm looking for a continuation of the decline as sellers are confronted with the image hosting requirements." constitute a 'mass exodous'? There was a sizeble decline if you factor in the fact that BV's growth rate was very stunted.

Let me rephrase for you to simplify my question... How many ID's do you have at AW or BV using Hotmail or Yahoo email addies? I have zero.
If you are referring to my GettaLife ID.. my suspension was over and my old acct cancelled (per my request) long before I returned as GettaLife. Since my CuFF acct no longer existed I created a new one, again using my isp email addy, not Hotmail and not in avoidance of suspension as my suspension was over. I even identified myself in my posts if I recall. I then agreed to change my ID when a request was made via an email from AW stating that someone else had used the ID GettaLife before and it was causing some confusion to a few of -you-. I agreed to switch my ID to CuFF.
I have never hidden bidsbids. I know you can't relate to that but I have no need to hide... do you?
Before you took this thread off track it was a stats thread. I'm anxiously awaiting the next post made by dim as the numbers just keep growing and growing. With Christmas just around the corner how can that be a bad thing? Everyone's sales at all sites will most likely increase to a degree. The more items the better I always say.
My apologies to the Moderator for responding to bidsbids directly and within a stats thread, but I believe my integrity was questioned and felt the need to clarify. I'm done now.

cuff, Done, eh? I don't believe Bidsbids was referring to GettaLife but rather BidVilleDotCom who registered here 3 days into cuff's 14 day suspension. Her posts coincidentally sounded exactly like cuffs before that ID got the boot the same day it was created. The Moderator posted that the email informing BidVilleDotCom of her suspension bounced. That ring any bells for ya?
