If I am not mistaken, the link to the book selling option would be in violation of Bidville's user agreement. According to section 6.1 line (cc) are concurrently listed for auction on a web site other than BidVille's;.

I believe the bookselling link I referenced above, posts auctions for your books on multiple sites at once. It's not really clear, so I am just speculating.

If you are interested in using the service, you may want to send them an email to find out.

Major change in website with addition of a "Books Storefront" with no announcement whatsoever to members.
Is BV treating the average seller like a child and not telling them anything about additions/developements to the site that does not concern them, since they are not allowed to use the new feature even with Premium Memberships?

I'm expanding the data collection. Date, total listings, sportscards listings and percent of total, books storefront listings and percent of total, and "all other categories" listings.

09-23 1,013,957 439,753 (43.3%) 260,584 (25.7%) 313,620

It appears that none of the new book ( special access ) auctions are not using any of the premium featured /gallery features. Perhaps to a potential capital investor, the ratio of total auctions running to the number of auctions running and using the premium ( pay ) features took a huge hit and may be somewhat of a negative effect of having this new 800 pound gorilla that has it's own cage in the auction site.
The homesy, just plain folks image is under fire too. ( We're just regular folks ... except for that one mega website thingie )

How do you get the completed auctions results from this one Special Section? The BV search engine really is the worst of all the online auctions.

Bidville's lack of bidders can be demonstrated by going to any subcategory, then clicking "completed." In this case its the 13 titled subcategories.

Wherz the bidderz?

Wherz the sell-through reportz?

I doubt that we will ever see another report from BV on this matter. The smart move ( which BV is pursuing in my estimation ) is to hope that BVers will not notice or care about the cessation of the sell reports. ( just like they didn't care about the cessation of the weekly summaries in the early months of operation ) The very high rates of favorable usage of the featured/gallery options that occured early in their debut could not be sustained and now must be nothing like their inital success. Not dishonest in any way but not really 'aboveboard' either. That is the way of businesses.

Wherez the sell-through reportz?

Bidville began posting a weekly sell-through report for the week ending May 23. Reports were made on a timely basis, but then began to lag behind. One day, two days, three days, a week. The last report was for the week ending August 29.

That's no sell-through report for September 5, September 12, September 19, and September 26.

Clearly, Bidville is either unable or unwilling to provide the sell-through report.

So dimview will be making a couple of changes. First, the tabulations of total listings, sports cards listings (with %), books storefront (with %), and "all other categories" listings will soon be collected weekly. Second, a resumption of periodic estimations of Bidville's sell-through rate.

As always, dimview will make "best efforts" estimations.

Strange, though, that there's nary a comment about Bidville's apparent decision to halt their own reporting of a weekly sell-through report.

And, oh yes, we do have a tidbit of information regarding the new Books Storefront category.

1 sale / 299,177 items = 0.0003% sell-through over some ten days.

YIKES!

WHERZ THE BIDDERZ?

Possibly a reflection of lack of interest in stats that are meaningless to individuals. personal sell through reults are more relevent.

Typo.

Here we go again? The distribution curve and all that stuff, over and over again.

< ROTFL >

The overwhelming majority of Bidville's sellers are experiencing a sell-through rate that's close to the average.

Of course, Bidville it seems clear does not want its own users to know what that average is.

What's the purpose of the "View Sales Information" link?

Don't really care what the bookseller's sell through rate is. Ain't me. I imagine there's roughly one person that cares about that. Maybe two.

"Ignorance is Bliss". Seems the 'never-finishes-anything' BV owner only publishes stats when they can be used by him to trick feeble sellers into paying for a near worthless premium membership.
What a testament to the traffic at BV is the lone book sale in the special book store front.

What I find amazing is that the distribution curve would have half the sellers doing better than 1.5% sell-through, the other half dowing worse, and the overwhelming majority being within a few notches of the average.

As if an incrementally higher sell-through rate were something spectacular.

fixed a goofy sentence.

Dimview, I just do not understand why you feel you have to continually bash the site. If you don't like it, if it doesn't do it for you, don't list there.

Doesn't seem to require a genius to figure that out.

PS: Liked the "goofy sentence" remark, but please try not to give me too many opportunities
like that. They are too hard to resist.

Conversely, I just do not understand why the comments of a single individual should be so upsetting to a handful of Bidville sellers.

dimview comments on numerous auctionsites and ... < LOL > ... golly gee, we already had this discussion.

I believe that I have just found another flaw in Bidville's new book storefront. There is a very wide variety of books in the special storefront and none of the books apparently are listed in the in the "Mature Audiences Only" section ( members verified before being allowed to enter this section ). Many of of 299,000+ books should be there ( do a search of words like porn or nudist ). This would make BV one of the few online auctions where underage buyers can easily buy books that are usually in special verified user sections of other auctions. I wonder if BV thought out this whole new book storefront concept before they started it?

I searched a few keywords and clicked around a bit but didn't find any books that really belonged in an "adults only" category.
