I agree with bids in that a minimum of $.25 FVF might help with the junk listings. There have been great ideas given on these boards, but I doubt Yahoo ever reads them. In the end, they do not much care for the sellers, or for that matter, their users.

what if Yahoo starts subscription service in which a user needs to pay 4.95$ a month to list unlimited number of items and pay a higher than current FVF if sold?

What do you think?

That's a great idea but Yahoo may not go for it because of the Yahoo Stores they sell. Those are fairly expensive and a lot more that $4.95/month. ( $49.50/month ) http://store.yahoo.com/pric.html
Then the Yahoo Auctions booths would be too similar to the Yahoo Stores.

Otherwise, I'd gladly pay $29.00/month for unlimited auction listings plus a 25 cent minimum selling fee with an eBay-like FVF fee schedule.

Keep the listing fees as they are right now. The junk auctions are in check and sale of good items are doing quite well. Not at ebay levels, but much better than the loser site bidville.

"The junk auctions are in check and sale of good items are doing quite well."

caffeitalia I am sorry, but I just have to ask....what are you basing this statement on????

I don't keep a check on all categories, but I do keep track of 2. Jewelry Fine and Jewelry Antique/Vintage.

I check the number of current listings each day. Once in the am and once in the pm.

I check the closed auctions every day.

I take the number of auctions that show up in the closed category each day, since it doesn't show auctions that received NO bids and divide it by the averaged number of auctions listed for that day.

It's not real scientific, but it gives me a better than "off the top of my head wild $$@ guess" or wishful thinking.

In the two categories that I watch daily, the overall auctions closing with a bid is less than 5%!

The average price is under $30! We are talking 14KT/18KT/Diamonds/Emeralds/Rubies here. New and vintage. It is really very sad. Although there is a lot of "junk", some of the items are very good, but they just don't close for a decent price or they don't receive a bid if priced at a realistic start price. That is very sad.

That's why I ask what category or by what data are you making your statements.

I have posted here for about 2 years. I have read these boards almost every day for the last 2 years. I have learned a great deal. I am beginning to believe that there are probably more sellers doing poorly than well, but they just can't bring themselves to admit it so unfortunately we are not getting a true picture of what's really going on UNLESS we spend the time to actually watch specific categories or keep track of specific sellers to see for outselves.

If we are going to ever have any hope of helping to build an auction business on Yahoo, we need to start being a little more "realistic" about what is actually going on.

I realize that some of the posters here may actually work for Yahoo, and of course we would expect them to talk about how great things are going, but it shouldn't take too long to figure that out and then start watching what others say.

I'm not talking about the Yahoo bashers either. Yes, when we've had a raw deal or in my case, no sucess, we have a tendancy to lash out at the site.

I just wish we could get some real, honest, fact based info about what is really going on at Yahoo! Auctions.

I have to agree. Anyone who makes the statement that the junk is under control and nice items are doing well has blinders on.

The Clothing and Accessories categories, like the Jewelry categories are doing poorly. They are filled with cheap $1 auctions which has done away with any chance of being able to get a decent price or even sell real designer items. I've listed new $500 designer items with a starting bid of around $30 and they do nothing.

I really dont see the advantage of yahoo eliminating insertion fees because in the past they were unable to compete with eBay. Why should yahoo be expected to give us anything more when they have lowered the fees once already, and advertised? Many eBay sellers whine all the time that there is no other options, but there has been one all the time. caffeitalia is right about the nickel keeping the low quality items off the site. Some catagories on yahoo do well, and others do not. If yahoo eliminates listing fees again the junk comes back, and the quality sellers will leave once the catagories are flooded.

Great post Sulyn1950, I think that Cafe is more of a Bidville basher than an active and happy Yahoo user.
