Amidst the disastrous doings of the Yahoo promo department by setting all our settings to accept spam, the bidders are finally coming back. I hadn't had any bids in nearly a month which is also about the time they did those changes. Now the bidders are coming back. Many people have changed their preferences back to not accept spam. Hopefully Yahoo won't keep scaring these fine people by doing something so stupid again.

I saw two Yahoo commercials during the NBA semi-final game yesterday on National TV ( NBC ). They do spend a lot on advertising and that can't hurt.

If they keep treating their sellers with disrespect, pretty soon the number of bidders will be moot ...

I'm ready for a Free Listing Day. It must be an eerie site for the regular Yahoo Auctions bidders to suddenly see the categories gorged with items for 10 to 114 days then see them return to a scant amount of items. Like a salmon run on a river or sumthin'.

Yes I know some people hate it but I can not afford to put the good stuff on the hoo. If it does not sell I am just out the fees. On FLD I put out the good stuff with the higher values.

With eBay's one cent gallery day ( see the AW eBay Outlook forum thread ) coming maybe Yahoo will try to steal some of their thunder and do another FLD. I've got 600 items on the not sold part of my auctions that can easily be relisted. A lot of items over $10 too like Jim said.

I doubt the free gallery day is going to make much difference even to eBay.
I'll also be VERY surprised if we see another FLD for a VERY long time.
I don't have any inside information, but I do read the news about Yahoo. Yahoo Management has moved completely away from auctions. I doubt Yahoo even has anyone in a position to decide on doing a FLD. Their staff on auctions is at a BARE MINIMUM nowadays.

I dont blame yahoo for eliminating the FLD's. With the current prices falling like a rock on ebay now isnt the time to waste revenue on the auctions. Yahoo did try to help but the sellers refuse to list so I cant blame them. Many sellers are asking yahoo to raise the fees back to .20 a listing. The yard sale and flea market season is here as well and that hurts.

I think raising the Yahoo listing fees would be certain death. I do think that a small handful of Yahoo sellers are enjoying great sales due to the lack of competition and would like to see the listing fees go up to keep that situation in their favor.
To avoid a warehouse situation like you see on most of the lesser online auction sites maybe Yahoo could reward sellers that actually sell items with free listing credits for items sold. If any sellers tried to shill buy their own items to get free listing credits they would at least have to pay the FVF on the items.

bidsbids with the huge postal rate hike coming this fall I think yahoo should focus on items that wont cost a fortune to ship like cards, coins, videos, and publications. These items are good sellers, and are cheap to ship. Anything that can be sent weighing a few ounces or media mail will do best. Another thing that will help yahoo is when ebay raises fees and they are expected to this year. The catagories that dident deliver I would axe and concentrate on the items that do sell well.

The more I think about the new postal rates the less I think that it will effect most auction items. The problem will be self-correcting in that sellers will switch to UPS and FedEX and go from offering only Priority Mail to Media Mail and First Class Mail when possible. There are a LOT of foolish sellers that charge poor buyers $3.95 for Priority Mail w/ DC for very small items. There is going to be Delivery Confirmation for First Class Mail so that will help sellers that worry that their items are untrackable when sent by First Class Mail.
The darn buyers are going to have to adjust to slower deliveries.

I just returned to Yahoo in the last month and a half, after staying away for almost 2 years. After testing, I have found sales are fairly acceptable - nothing like they were before FEES were instituted, but acceptable enough to bring me back to regularly posting.
I am personally still in favor of FVF, which would bring me back will all my auctions, at this time I am merely running 15 to 20 – I could post in the hundreds, but I don’t have that type of confidence in Yahoo.
Oddly enough, I am getting more sales in the $22 to $50 dollar range than in the less costly items.
As long as there are consistent sales, I'll post on Yahoo, and as long as the management acts half decent.

sellyouritem.com
Are there any "buyers" at "sellyouritem.com?" Ease of posting isn't an issue to me - buyers are. Fortunately, I have found recently that I am getting regular sales on Yahoo, the first time in 2 years. My elder son, who posts at least 1,000 auctions in the coin area has also started posting on Yahoo again, and he had left Yahoo at the same time I did when fees came in.
Naturally, we both still use eBay, till Yahoo returns to the old ways, there is no way I could risk giving up eBay - But the whole thing is moot, since Yahoo will do what it pleases, suicidal or not.

Yahoo seems to have the attitude of either use it or dont. Some sellers are doing great on yahoo. I dont expect any more free listing days or promotion since many sellers did not take advantage of them. I think a nickel for a listing is more than fair.

It's not a matter of a "fair" listing fee. It's all about money.
I listed 154 golf items about a week ago. I reduced the prices on most items to encourage more sales. All of them are "1st bid wins" so the time left doesn't matter. In that week I have sold 8 of them for a gross amount of $110.
Listing fees were $28.
So let's assume I sell 16 items for $220 in the 2 weeks. Listing fees then, are 12.7% of my gross sales. And then you have to add in FV fees to see how big Yahoo's bite really is.
So Yahoo just isn't worth all the effort of running auctions and dealing with deadbeats. I wouldn't mind a higher FV fee but Yahoo doesn't deserve any money up front for what they offer.
I much prefer paying half.com 15% of sales to list an item once and then let them collect and send me the money and simply email me when there is a buyer.

I prefer paying Half the 15% also. A seller can warehouse their items and not have to worry about collecting the payments.
I would like to see a 5 cent per month listing fee at Yahoo if they doubled the small FVF to about that of eBay. The listing fees at eBay are the real killer fees.

Hi i just feel we all need to put our eggs in a couple of baskets.syi is growing like wildfire...yahoo has died for me,getting many more hits at syi even with paying to feature at yahoo..there are a lot of buy nows at syi as there is no charge for it..basic listing free, reserve free,2 categories free, buy now free,,,i just think it's a good back up for many people..what pushed me to try it was the influx of the big ebay powersellers moving to sellyouritem..lots of nice people at the lounge committed to making it work..i think it has a good chance,& "IF" yahoo does the same with Yahoo Auctions USA they just did with their European auction sites they closed to PROMOTE EBAY.(cannot believe it).i just feel we will be ready with a free back up....also i imagine a lot of yahoo bidders & sellers may come over to syi.they like the fact they can link to their websites & import auctions & their feedback too..good luck to everyone wherever you sell ps a lot of us did support yahoo, listed, featured etc..spent many hours a day fighting fraud too..go to community, message board GENERAL check out the fraud thread with 1,700+ posts..see what we went through..we stuck it out even with few sales..but this closing of YAHOO AUCTIONS OVERSEAS to PROMOTE EBAY ON YAHOO WAS THE LAST STRAW..thanks

I can't believe it took Yahoo so long to close those loser European auction sites. Why not take some of eBays money to promote those markets they gave up on?
As to SYI if they are going such great guns these days it will not be long before fees are instituted there. If Carnaby could have a fair degree of sales they could start a small listing fee as well as they FVF but that doesn't happen because there are very few sales over there. The sellers will flock to where the sales are. But there must be real sales and lots of them and not just rumors of great sales numbers.

Yahoo isn't really an auction site though - It works well for me as a fixed pricelist site, where I put something up for what I want to sell it for, and it sells. The few items I have tried to work as an auction never do well. On ebay, I can start low, and end up with some really high amounts (I deal with all sorts of collectibles) - However, for items that I have tons in stock and want to move, Yahoo is great, and the lower fees are nice as well.

Yahoo had been working fairly well for us for the last month, and then zap again, down to nothing.... We are currently busy with other things, so I think we will hold on any more Yahoo posting, till the market is moving some better, OR a free days occurs...if nothing - we will start again in the fall.

There are a few jewelry sellers that list expensive items at very low prices without a reserve and they seem to do okay. They have more guts than I do.
Yahoo is best for fixed price items or a BIN very close to the start bid. If any item has any chance of multiple bids it should go on eBay. Only if an item has been determined to be commonplace and plentiful on eBay should it be placed on Yahoo where some non-eBay bidders may find the item and buy it. I still do very well with these types of items of Yahoo since it only costs a nickel to list an item with a starting bid of up to $9.99 .

You can list 100 items under $10 for only $5 for 10 days. Out of the 100 items you should be able to sell a few and easily pay the $5 and make some nice profits. I try to sell the buyers other similar items or multiples of the same item if I have them. You're doing more than selling single items at online auctions, you're gaining the opprotunity to sell more items to users that buy or ask questions. That's why it's always an excellent idea to place your email address somewhere in the auction description. The email harvesters may sent you some spam but it's worth the sales that may come from the email address in the auction description.

I think the condition of Yahoo Auctions, is reflected on the Yahoo Board here. Basically, there is little left of the Yahoo Board, and few posters. We are off Yahoo again, and outside of test items, won't be using Yahoo till the fall, it just isn't worth the effort.
