Fenix03, This White House could release some oil reserves to help control spiraling oil prices.
It could introduce a bill to lower federal taxes on gas and heating oil.
It could have not given huge tax cuts to the rich and industry and used that money to help offset gas tax cuts. Or increased funding for a better energy source. We already have the technology for a better energy source its just not being funded or implemented very well.
It could improve mass transit.
It could of not started the Iraq war by blowing smoke into a mushroom cloud. Since the Iraq war. Iraq's oil production is down. Plus the money being spent there could go a long ways towards better mass transit.
It could stop the millions of American jobs going to China. It seems China's use of the world supply of oil has increased big time helping to drive up world oil prices.
I am sure with all the smart people at this White House there is a lot more they can do. Why don't we all ask them for more ideas. They have the power to make laws and changes. We should all be asking the White House what they are going to do about gas and heating oil prices and when they are going to do it.
Its not my problem if a few of you like Linda K find it troublesome what the American people are thinking of this White House these days. Facts are in almost every poll we see the rating for this White House is going down on the domestic front. It seems the American People are finding out that very often this White House isn't doing what they said they were going to do.

That is a band-aid. It's a short term fix, not a reason for the problem
It could introduce a bill to lower federal taxes on gas and heating oil.
The taxes have NOTHING to do with rising or fluctuating price of gas. The tax is the same no matter what price the oil and gas companies choose to pay.
It could have not given huge tax cuts to the rich and industry and used that money to help offset gas tax cuts. Or increased funding for a better energy source.
Completely irrelevant and would have ZERO effect on gas utilization for at least a decade. Besides, the technology already exists. Why aren't you laying the blame at the feet of automakers who are not dedicating enough manufacturing assets to the hybrids? The demand is there, the waiting lists are a mile long. Wouldn't it make more sense to put pressure on those that actually have the technology to make it more widely accessible than to blame politicians?
It could improve mass transit.
Yeah - there you go. So explain this one to me. You want them to decrease taxes, increases spending and lessen the deficit?
It could of not started the Iraq war by blowing smoke into a mushroom cloud. Since the Iraq war. Iraq's oil production is down. Plus the money being spent there could go a long ways towards better mass transit.
We should have stayed far and wide away from Iraq but in term of oil prices... they didn't contribute to our supply before so their production levels are irrelevant
It could stop the millions of American jobs going to China. It seems China's use of the world supply of oil has increased big time helping to drive up world oil prices.
Oh god.... you are going to hurt your back stretching that far.
Now - there is something you really need to understand about me. I hate Bush. Don't trust him as far far as I can throw him. Think he is potenially, one of the most dangerous world leader in history.
That said. I don't blame him every time I stub my toe. Sure I could. I could probably find at least three reasons to blame it on him. But the fact is, I stubbed my toe because there was something in the way, and moving that thing is what's going to stop me from stubbing my toe again.
Bush may be evil incarnate but not everything is his fault and if you want to fix a problem you have find out what the REAL source of the problem is. The immediate cure is oil company regulations and at least one new major refinery build. (Did you know the Saudis offered to build us one?) This is not a new scenario. It happens every year. Oil companies falsely inflate prices based on the possibility of shortages if something happens with the current supply line. Why could something happen? Maybe because we have not built a new refinery in the US in over 15 years? Our consumption has certainly increased, why didn't our refining capacity?
Long term fix... lessen demand. This is not done by a government. Consumers hold all the cards there. Start increasing the waiting lists on the hybrids and decreasing the sales in standard vehicles and the manufacturers will increase production and expand research.
This is another situation where we the people can take control of the situation. Why are you so intent on giving someone else responsibility and control over your life?

Linda K, said these words to me,
"Or is your 'mission' to just post and not be accountable for your words...or the agenda you are trying to promote?"
Linda K, your words about making posts and not being accountable for words. Those words from you made my laugh of the day. I believe your mission to confuse and treat people like neophytes has become transparent.
In the event you work for the G.O.P. you should turn you job over to someone new and be reassigned.
Linda K, I have no mission or agenda. I just point out to the American voters that they should become really informed and give them issues to look at. That way they don't have to believe YOU OR ME. They can trust themselves. Unlike you I try to inform without blowing smoke that confuse and cloud the issues. Do I make mistakes sure I do. I am not a paid professional at this sort of thing. I am just a middle class guy that cares about all Americans except the GREEDY RICH. Mind you I see nothing wrong with being rich but being a GREEDY RICH PERSON AND SELF SERVING I find disgusting.

I have said before people like you and I have no power to implement your or my ideas. What we seem to agree on is America needs to get together and say we have had enough. We all are living under this White House and this White House has the power to make a better America for most Americans not just a selected few. If you find me to be a stumbler bumbler that's fine. But as sure as I am typing I am sick of what is happening to this country. I do blame this White House for a lot of Americas problems. Plus as sure as I am typing this White House could and should be doing a better job for most Americans not just a selected few. I will keep posting.

Fenix03, You said I was going to hurt my back stretching linking high oil prices with the exporting of jobs to china. The report below did not hurt my back at all.
posted March 10th 2005. MediaCorp News, News Asia
NEW YORK : Oil prices rocketed, hitting or nearing fresh record highs amid growing speculative fever combined with concerns over supplies and a cold wave that has heightened demand for heating oil.
New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in April, came within a whisker of the record high of 55.67 dollars set in October.
The New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) cancelled a reported transaction of 55.70 dollars that was announced as a new record, and prices retreated to 54.77 dollars, a gain of 18 cents at the close of trade.
The price of Brent North Sea crude oil for delivery in April rocketed 1.21 dollars to 54.05 dollars a barrel at 1730 GMT in London -- exceeding the previous record of 53.36.
Brent futures closed in London at 53.38 dollars, a gain of 54 cents.
Despite late-day profit taking, the closing prices on both markets were the highest since all-time records set in late October.
In New York, dealers said fears about growing demand linked to economic activity and a cold snap that hit the eastern United States were factors, but that speculators were also pushing up prices.
"The market is focusing on the long term," said Phil Flynn at Alaron Trading.
"People are afraid production is not going to be able to keep up with demand," he said, especially from China.

Peepa - so do you think that our government should limit world growth in order to keep our gas prices down? Those damn chinamen should not be buying Buicks (which by the way they are, accounting for most of GMs profits which reflect upon our stock market) when we have to pay $2 for gas. We cannot solve our problems by cripling other countries and putting profit eating restrictons upon our own companies. Again, this country is not being victimized by growth, we are being victimized by our laziness and desire to complain rather than expand.

Then my advice to you bigpeepa move. Would it be different under Kerry, the traitor, No it wouldn't so get over it and start acting like an american. Do something to change it. Talk to your congressman who ever that might be. Tell him what you think because I for one am tired of listening to you talk about the White House. Remember the white house is only a place, a house, and it can't do anything for you. Everytime I see you type that I laugh. Remember that when you vote next time. Look for the white house on your ballot. Your vote is sure to count.

Fenix03 you are right about the Chinese worker doing very well under this White House. Its the American worker I worry about. Now you are saying Americans are LAZY? That statement is a bunch of crap.

It's begun!! Pretty soon there will be babies all over the place. Thank god it's spring break next week..The goats and horses started last night. The girls and their mom will help the mares if they need it, and the goats can pretty well take care of themselves.

Helenjw, we all know that people like fenix03 and the L sisters like to blame the victims of a problem and not the problem MAKERS. People with their mind set like to say the American people are "LAZY". Blaming the victims is a very old divide and conquer trick used by this White House and people that support it.
I just took my kid to the Pittsburgh Airport this morning at 5:45AM. The roads were full of "LAZY AMERICANS" going to work at that hour of the morning.
Now I will be waiting for a reply from the right saying "YOU LIE". Those "LAZY AMERICANS" weren't on their way to work at 5:45AM. They were on their way to the Welfare Office wanting to be first in line.

Peepa - the Buicks sold in China are being made in China. The point is that the Chinese market is holding up GM. Of course you seem to be forgetting that GM is a US company, a company that trades on the US Stock market, and a company that if they were unable to show profits that the Chinese sales are enabling them to show would having dropping stock which as a major indicator would bring down the market which brings down the dollars value. You have to start thinking a few steps ahead of where your current processes are taking you.
As for Americans being lazy. Yes dear. They are. The have gotten and content... and that contment has now lead to discontent (did that make any sense?) the world has grown and advanced and it's passing us by in a number of areas becasue rather than attempt to lead the growth we wanted everything to stay right where it was. It was simple and comfortable for us. Now it's not so comfortable and rather than work to find the new avenues that allow us to utilize out ingenuity people are just stomping their feet pissing and moaning that the world is passing them by.

GM offers $1,000 deals to clear lots
Rebates added to current ones
March 11, 2005
BY JEFF GREEN
BLOOMBERG
General Motors Corp. is adding rebates of $1,000 on models sitting unsold on dealer lots more than four months after U.S. sales fell 10 percent in the first two months of this year.
The new incentives, which started Thursday and run through March 31, are in addition to rebates that range from $500 to $3,500 on most models, said GM spokeswoman Deborah Silverman. Cadillac models that are slow to sell get an additional $1,500 in rebates, she said. Dealers will use special tags to advertise the lower prices during the promotion, she said.
"We probably have about 30 or 40 vehicles on our lot, out of a couple hundred, that've been sitting long enough to qualify for the rebates," said Jim Congdon, Internet sales manager at the Burritt Motors Chevrolet/Buick dealership in Oswego, N.Y. "The first two months have been slow for us."
GM sales fell 13 percent last month and its U.S. market share dropped below 25 percent for the first time in more than six years, even after the Detroit-based automaker cut prices and offered no-interest, 5-year loans on its largest pickups and sport-utility vehicles. GM is losing market share to Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. as they expand SUV and truck lineups.
GM will not disclose how many of its vehicles have been on dealer lots more than 125 days and would qualify for the new rebates, Silverman said.
The automaker had about 1.29 million unsold cars and trucks at the end of February, according to Autodata Corp. of Woodcliffe Lake, N.J. Of those, about 27 models, or about 34 percent of the total, have enough unsold supply that they may be eligible for rebates, based on rate of sales and inventory. Those include the Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac SRX and Escalade SUVs and the Saturn Relay minivan.
Rebates rose 6.4 percent from January to February at GM to $5,349, the most of any automaker and a record high, Bandon, Ore.-based CNW Marketing Research Inc. reports. Rebates across the industry rose 6.8 percent to $4,423, the second-highest combined total ever, CNW said.
GM forecast March 1 that second-quarter North American production will decline about 10 percent to 1.25 million vehicles so the company can reduce inventory of unsold models. The automaker also said production this quarter will be about 12 percent lower than in the first quarter of 2004.
The March Madness promotion will carry a basketball theme to coincide with the NCAA basketball tournament and is similar to a red tag sale in December, Silverman said. Most models already have rebates from $2,000 to $3,000 and dealers will be able to set lower prices on slower-selling models using the new incentives, she said.
"We want to move the merchandise and reduce inventory," Silverman said.

It's my opinion that those who wish to blame high gasoline prices on ANY president are just not aware of how very, very little control they have over OPEC nations. All they can do is 'talk' and try to encourage them to produce more.
Imo, one cannot expect that when OPEC oil is sold for $25.00 a barrel and then is sold for $55.00 a barrel...that we're NOT going to see price increases at the pumps. [or in heating prices] That's just NOT rational thinking.
Then we have the refineries. Old...not meeting enviromental requirements for their emissions....and have to be shut down for maintainance - another factor for increased prices. They have not started shutting down for their annual maintainance yet.
On new plants....again because of environmental regulations to build would be cost prohibitive. But hey....we have to keep those rabid environmentalists happy....no matter the cost.
Then there are those who 'trade' on oil futures....making 'bets' of the future, and imo, THEY are the cause of the prices going up more
than anything else.
So....those are MY reasons for thinking that blaming the President for these high gasoline/heating costs is no more than lack of knowledge of how the system works.
