Linda - The only one that fits that price catagory would be the as yet unleased Lexus SUV Hybrid and 15K of that is for the Lexus name.

According to the Consumer Reports 2005 car issue, the Prius Hybrid actuall ranks #3 overall in terms of customer satisfaction.

In terms of the hold up in manufacturing...if the plant is online and producing then it's simply matter of ramping up production numbers on the hybrids and start backing off the standard models. They are increasing numbers but no where near quickly enough.

GM had no problem ramping up production numbers on the Escalade when it started exceeding projections, so are there still these huge waiting lists for the hybrids?

fenix - Those other prices [you posted] sound very reasonable to me. And since it appears the demand IS there....maybe we're headed in the right direction after all. Maybe a little more patience and we'll see great strides in the change over. And I have absolutely no doubt that if the demand continues...they'll be producing more of them. Money talks.

Linda - The dealers report that everytime gas prices start spiking their waiting lists start growing so hopefully this predicted summer of gas price doom will put push the changes to the next level.

BTW - Despite what many would like to believe, this is OPEC's worst nightmare. The reason they try to increase production when prices start rising like they are right now is because they know that people will start seeking long term alternatives. They view Hybrids the way many on our boards view the Chinese .

lol....just goes to show not much really changes. In my youth, my parents generation felt the same way about Japan....as some do about China now.

And on: this is OPEC's worst nightmare.

I've read that several times....and I can see that could be very true. But at some point, as more and more nations develop and require more oil...it's only going to get worse...[if things don't change, of course].

But, I must say I was more than VERY surprised with the OPEC leader said oil prices could/might go up to $80.00 a barrel. Now those type of statements will surely encourage more Americans to support doing 'whatever it takes' to become less dependent on foreign oil.

I have to leave now...but before I go I wanted you to know that I have really missed our 'debates' lately - like we've had today. It's so nice to just discuss the issues. thanks, fenix.

okay...and just how much do these cars cost? Are they within the average American's budget for a family car?

No more expensive than a car. They are in the mid-20's

Yep...they're all for protecting our environment....

Just like your pal Bush is. Hey that is right. If there was oil in Yellowstone Park, Bush would be there with his oil derick. If there was oil under Washington's head on Mount Rushmore, Bush would be there. There is a hole in Bush's head so why not make one in Washington's right...

don't know if their extremists or not..

Yep just like you. Don't know anything about them, but the first to critcize them. What's the matter didn't like what you read because it goes against what you believe?

Who said I didn't know anything about them? YOU!! I said I knew they're an environment group [that pretty much says all that needs to be said] I just added that I don't know if they're extremists or not. I know that all environmental groups fight with all their might against oil drilling in Alaska....matter of fact they fight windfarms too.

Who said I didn't know anything about them?

If you really knew anything about the group, you would know whether or not they are an extremist group. A first grader could look at their web page and know they are an environmentalist group made up of scientists and have a headquarters in Mass. How Linda you really know alot about them

Look Bush has found oil under the White House. Let's start drilling there. It will bring down our gas prices. LOL LOL LOL

Linda

I know I'm late getting in on this, but. . .with regard to your stating that Helen has told posters on this board to go to hell, hogwash. I read the post you referred to, Linda, and she wasn't telling posters here to go to hell. I'm sorry, but, you have a way of reading exactly what you want into other people's posts. You constantly take things out of context, twist them a bit and then attack. A course on reading comprehension would suit you well. I'm just calling it as I see it.

Crowfarm and others may not politely post to your satisfaction, but at least they don't hide who they really are behind their posts. They are who they are. Take 'em or leave 'em. And, sometimes I might come off sounding dumb as a post, but at least I try to absorb things - from both sides. You, on the other hand, have such a thick skull I don't think anything could get in. You might try being more open minded. You're missing out on a lot.

I'm more of a reader on this board now than a poster and for good reason. You'd be surprised what you learn by keeping your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open.

JMO.

With regard to gas prices. . .unless people cut down on their driving nothing will change. It's simple supply and demand. The demand for oil in Europe (China, for one) has greatly increased. The more oil you have to produce, the more it costs. Anyone remember the gas lines in the 70's? Unfortunately, it would take world collaboration for any plan to work. I don't see that happening with the way the world views us right now. That fact I can blame on Bush and this administration. Oil consumption, unfortunately, I cannot.

As for drilling in Alaska. . .that's a disaster waiting to happen. There's a delicate balance here that we keep insisting on upsetting. We share this planet with many living things - birds, plants, animals, fish - and they each have their own role to play in keeping this planet habitable. What right do we have in the name of convenience to upset that balance? We are the most destructive living thing on Earth and one day we will pay dearly for that destructive behavior.

I love the hybrid cars. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford one (or a gas driven one for that matter). They had one on display at the zoo last summer. Nice.

li DUH says, ""I said I knew they're an environment group [that pretty much says all that needs to be said] I just added that I don't know if they're extremists or not.""

Wow! talk about tunnel vision bigotry!

All you need to say is environment group and linDUH knows all about it.

And, of course, being a neocon, hates it. Why ? Because they don't give a damn about their environment and the environment of their children and grand children.....how Anti-American!

LinDUH's usual stand against anything GOOD!
Which makes her.............everything I've ever said about her.

LOL cheryl - That's YOUR opinion and I gave mine. You too, imo, take things said here in a defensive way...often.
More than once you've accused me because of what I've said about gay marriage...and your brothers - to mean something other than what I've said. So....agree with helen all you want. I really don't care as I believe MORE would take that as her hope they go to hell....than would think it was a kind, loving offer of future happiness.

I think ANY Christian Fundamentalist, and some Christians too, would have taken that to be helen's wish they all go to hell. And we did have several Christian posters here at different times. The anti-religion and atheists ran them off. Helen was one of them.

Maybe it's you that haven't gone into 1st grade yet, logansdad. As I did click on their 'about us' page and read that they are an environmental group that also has scientists in it. Big deal. Think many groups who argue science to benefit their own platform aren't in other groups too? Of course you already KNOW this group isn't made up of scientists alone....but other environmentally concerned people too. And IF you're denying there are NOT extremists in many environmental groups...then you're not dealing in truth.

And then followed by an even further stretch!

And, as usual, here comes helen's tag-along again. NOT addressing the topic matter....but to defend helen for having such GREAT intentions when she stated:

Conservative christian fundamentalists justify their greed based on their self serving interpretation of the bible. The fact that they believe that taxing poor people is moral doesn't surprise me. May they all go to the hell in which they also believe. Helen

That's funny, kiara

Just because YOUR tagalong , lalalandlibra, isn't here right now you insult Kiara by calling her a tagalong...you really like to sling the insults but then object when others do...hypocrite!

IF Helen said ....""The fact that they believe that taxing poor people is moral doesn't surprise me. May they all go to the hell in which they also believe. Helen""....

So WHAT? I second it! Why shouldn't they go to their fairy tale hell for being so rotten?

And, I hardly think that would chase someone off the RT...so linduh...go to hell.

Linda_k, I'm a tag-along because I post here a few times a week and don't sit on my ass all day? Ya........ right.

And what's it to you if I stay on topic or not, you don't seem to have a problem straying all over the place so who made you board topic monitor?

You took Helen's comment out of context from an old thread and you keep stretching it just so you can stir some more sh!t here so you get another chance to laugh. Lately it seems to be the only way you get off. That's sick.

kiara.

I posted her statement when and because she called me a liar.

Her statement is quite clear.

She 'grouped' ALL Christian Fundamentalist
in her statement.

She didn't say she only wished that on those CF's who support the subject being discussed in that thread. She made a general statement about her feelings on them all. And at that time many were slamming Christians one way or another.

Her 'intent' is quite clear...and her not using additional wording like 'some CF's...or 'those CF's ....etc. Aren't included in her post. And she is always the one so tries to be so articulate with just how she words her posts.

On YOU being her tag-along...you are. I've called you on coming in to ONLY 'stir the pot' before, and you've DENIED it. or demanded I prove it. So...I thought I'd change my actions and point it out each and everytime you come on to defend helen....and don't **also** address the topic. I'll continue to do so that way you can't claim you don't or that I'm lying.

I can read Linda_k, you don't have to post a long blah blah about how you see things.

Just so you know, Helen doesn't need me or anyone else to defend her from the likes of you......... she can easily take care of herself.

YOU may think I post only to stir the pot because you've made it clear you dislike me posting anything here. I post because I want to, big difference.

Sheesh, each and every single time I post here it seems to get you all worked up. LOL LOL LOL

That's correct, kiara. But that hasn't stopped you from doing so. And I've already stated why I 'call you on it' - because you've DENIED you do it.

You're obviously NOT paying attention that when you DO post to the topic....I'm not calling you on it. Recently I haven't commented on your opinion posts at all.

At times, and because I might disagree with something you've stated, doesn't mean that I treat YOU any differently [nor that I'm 'pickin' on you but rather disagreeing with your position] than I do others whose positions I don't agree with. That's what we DO here. We all state our positions.

Get over your 'poor me' thinking it's only in your mind.

I've never had a 'poor me' thinking. That's seems to be your own way of thinking with all the woeful widdle blue faces you post.

You're obviously NOT paying attention that when you DO post to the topic....

How the heck do you know what I'm paying attention to? No, you don't comment on my opinion posts because you're too busy calling me anti-American and making up lies about me and the socialist party as you hurl snide insinuations around.

You just get cranked because I don't go away whenever you try to be the board bully and then you get even more cranked when I stay and I don't kiss up to you.
