Interesting things happened to me with the new logos-- I am a VERIFIED user, whooppee! I inserted the new VERIFIED logos into my new auctions over the past weekend and they appeared in the auctions, but I just checked them all and NONE of them say VERIFIED anymore. Hmm...

Amy...Yes, I suppose I should have sent them ALL the logos, so as to not confuse their sweet little brain...However, since THEY refered me back to the PayPal site, I assumed that they were familiar with the new logos...I should have known better..

alhogarth - you made me look! I just checked mine and mine don't say "verified" anymore either! Curiouser and curiouser....

alhogarth..The logos on Paypal no longer show the "verified" word...Must have been a NoNo with Ebay...However, they did nothing about the "SIZE"???...strange...

I suppose you might want to add a little blurb within your listing, about being a Verified Paypal user...

Verified, or not, makes me no nevermind! Just glad to see I wasn't the only one who "lost" her "esteemed" rank!

"esteemed rank"....Love that...

I am getting a little miffed at Ebay, though. Here is another small, insidious way to make it a little more difficult for their "small sellers" (meaning non Corporate), to conduct business. Many users are probably do want to see that "Verified" word, and if it could help a sale, then, why can't Ebay allow that small word? After all, it IS money in their pocket each time they collect a FVF. I am NOT a business woman, so I am baffled by Ebay's more recent attitude. It was so much easier 2 years ago

Mine still says 'verified', but I put mine in manually, which accounts for the difference.

Shosh..you shouldn't assume that it is ebay that is removing the word "verified". It could just as easily be a glitch on the paypal end.

uaru...wait till an Ebay-Cop reports ya...Well, we should soon know if Ebay removed the word or if it is a PayPal glitch, as I just wrote to Damon.

Anyone with the removed wording...

Can you please contact me at [email protected] with the information?

I just received back an email from powerseller support, ok don't hate me. She has forwarded to some one else, but here is what she told me:

Hello Kim,

Thank you for writing in for clarification on this issue.

I believe that the only logo that is within the guidelines for eBay is
the smallest one (88 X 33). Just to be sure though, I have forwarded
your email to proper department to clarify that policy. You should be
hearing back from them soon.

As always, Kim, do let me know if there is anything else I can do for
you. Have a great week!

Regards,

Jessa P. S.
eBay PowerSeller Support

So it looks like they aren't compliant, but I will let everyone know as soon as I hear back from them again.

Kim

Continuing the UNVERIFIED debacle, I asked the same question about the PP logos. Got the same answers as you did. Believe I'll wind up passing over the "verified" icon, because I just don't think it is necessary to me.
One account. One user ID. One email. One server.
It's all out there. And it's true. And I am sick to death of ICONS!
Oh, surely it must be time for medication.

Hi,

The new logos are compliant with Ebay's standards because we checked with them before they went live.

"I checked with Product and they apparently checked with Ebay."
And we all know what happens when you ASSume that the proper permissions have been obtained. Have you seen anything in writing form eBay?

"If Ebay had an issue with a logo, they will contact us to meet their specifications."
NO, if the wrong eBay staffer sees an auction with a non-conforming logo, they have been known to end the auction. They may or may not contact you with their issues later.

Hi abacaxi,

Product checked the items with eBay before they were launched. eBay gave it the ok. I have confirmed this with Product and that is the best answer I can give you. If eBay decided to alter it, we would have to do so at their request.

Damon,

The concern is that some over zealous eBay Support person will simply cancel our auctions for a non compliant logo, with out contacting you or us first. It has happened to sellers in the past, it just did not involve PayPal.

I am sure if eBay has any problem with the new logo we will all know real soon. (I hope they don't, cause i like the looks of them.)

I still think this is a miscommunication on somebody's end. No way did anyone in a position of authority at eBay approve logos 3 times the size that eBay allows. Particularly for the prime competitor to eBay's BillPoint.

Reminds me of the kid's game "telephone,' where one person whispers to another, who whispers to another....and by the time the last one gets the message, it's completely wrong. Like this:

PayPal Product team manager to worker bee: "Check with eBay and make sure our new 150 X 50 logos are OK."

PayPal worker bee to co-worker: "Boss wants us to make sure the new PayPal logos are OK on eBay. Can you do it for me? I gotta take a smoke outside."

PayPal co-worker to eBay CS guy: "Hey, PayPal here. Just making sure our logos are eBay compliant."

eBay CS guy: "Sure! I use em on my own auctions all the time! Love you guys!"

And so it goes.

I agree with Magazine Guy, no way would eBay approve of those logos.

The folks at eBay to ask are [email protected]

This is the email addy that an eBay rep gave me over a BidPay logo stink a few months back. The idjit at SH didn't have a clue what he was talking about, but he threatened me with suspension if I didn't comply.

It doesn't much matter what Damon states on this thread, he won't be the one holding the axe if you get reported.

"It doesn't much matter what Damon states on this thread..."

Amen to that!

Damon has stated 5 times that the new logo was checked with eBay! I don't see any point in repeating that again, not in english anyway.

Here's another thing to ponder, several days ago, BEFORE the new logos came out the 88x33 animated logo was withdrawn from PayPal's "eBay approved" logo list.

http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=247533

I thought that curious, but really didn't dwell on it, and neither did anyone else really. My theory is eBay would rather have the non animated logo for whatever reason and allowances were made. I think that a gentlemen's agreement is being attempted in a room full of lawyers.

Those uncomfortable with the new logos shouldn't use them. I don't think you'll ever be privy to the dialog exchange that took place between eBay and PayPal.

I don't think eBay decided that PayPal can't use animated logos. I also don't think eBay approved the use of PayPal's 250x33 or 250x50 pixel logos, nor did eBay tell PayPal that they had to remove the word "verified" from the gif, especially since for all intents and purposes they added the requirement of 88x33 in response to PayPal's initial large logos.

I think there's been a communication glitch.

Hi reddeer,

I have confirmed this with Product several times now and our strategy partner checked with eBay to see if this is ok with them. They said that it was.

Damon, With all due respect (and I have a lot for you!), I think the concern is that whatever eBay tells PayPal is meaningless unless they specifically make an exception to your logos in their TOS.

Hi borgt,

I can appreciate the concerns over the issue, but all of the information I have states that we did check beforehand. I have exhausted every resource to verify this and we have not had any complaints to the best of my knowledge through eBay. If eBay wanted us to change it, we would do so at their request and specifications because it is their web site.

paypaldamon:

And what we're telling you is that there is likely a miscommunication somewhere. We've been down this path before. You should be finding out exactly who at eBay approved, and exactly what they approved, and ensure (for the benefit of your users) that the person you talked to at eBay was in a position to approve such an obvious deviation from eBay's policy and practice.

We've all got horror stories of incorrect information from low and mid level folks over at eBay.

Prediction: Soon (probably within 2 days), Paypaldamon will post here something like:

"We did get approval from eBay on the new larger PayPal logos. Now eBay has reversed themselves, and they are saying that the logos are no longer acceptable. We're working to revise these logos, and we apologize for the inconvenience."

In face, eBay will not have reversed themselves, because their position has been clear all along. The new logos are not in compliance with their posted 88 X 33 pixel guidelines.

I just got verified, came from the PayPal site and I saw which logos were acceptable. If something changes, I would hope they would not interfere with our business, but contact the proper authority, ie, eBay to PayPal or vice versa.........................

Hi all,

I am currently working on getting some additional clarification on this issue surrounding the size. All pertinent information at hand suggested it was ok and I am going to make sure of this. Please bear tight as I get this issue resolved.
