How much do you spend a week/month on groceries?

I spend about 65-75 dollars a week including paper and laundry/hh products and stuff for the cat.

Is that about average, high or low for a family of two? I have no idea. I think I could do better if I paid more attention to coupons, but only occassionally do.

We try to utilize places like Sam's Club to buy in bulk and Marks when we can. It has cut the cost down, but not by a whole lot. We spend over $100 per week for three of us and that's generally just the cost of dinners around here since we eat lunch at work. I'm only 2 miles from work, but I don't come home at lunch time. It's cheaper to grab something at McDonald's or Wendy's than it is to pay for the gasoline back and forth for lunch.

I buy all my paper products and laundry items and cat food buy the case when they are on sale at a store called Pamida. I also stock up on groceries when I have extra money so that I can go lite when I have big bills to pay. So I might spent as much as $40.00 a week, some weeks I only buy milk and bread. There are just two of us,but the cat eats the most.

hi classic, 2 of us here now, and the cat. I dont know how you do it on 130.00 for three? Ya cant really buy much meat or fish for that...can ya? My hubby is into juicing so altho that costs with fruit and produce, he will have a sandwich or something most times inbetween and doesnt fuss too much - but I like to cook at least one good full meal when I can.

Mah, I agree, the cat litter and food etc runs up on the bill. I used to do sams but I dont have alot of room to store things.

Man, I am beat. They had a huge community garage sale and arts and crafts festival today -- I am garage-saled-out! And its only April! Now I gotta decide if anything I pickedup is worth listing and start that job! I passed on an old polaroid camera with case and lighting accessories--I could kick myself now! I think the case alone is worth twice or more what they wanted for it, and who knows with Ebay... Oh well, taking a nap before I start to work on all this.,

Good thing none of you live in Canada! $100.00 a week would barely feed one person. When I get pkgs. from the U.S. that have newspaper for packing, I love to read all the grocery store flyers. You don't realize how lucky you have it.

KD, why do you think it is more expensive in Canada?

I think with some creative shopping, which many people don't do, you could eat on $100.00 a week. Menu plan, coupons and of course instore coupons. What happens is that stores offer things that as an american overweight society don't need. Have you noticed that the bakery section is in the front of the store and produce and fruit is in the back. The stores cater to the shoppers to get them to buy items they don't want. I have to figure out a way to get my husband passed that bakery section which is very hard. I am not a bakery eater so it doesn't bother me much, but the potato chip section is my downfall and you find those section all through the store.

Libra, it's Bush's fault. Because we wouldn't fight in Iraq, Bush lowered the prices on everything to make us jealous. Jerk!

I guess when in doubt blame Bush. Now tell me how did he lower prices on our food when food prices are done on what production the farmers make, or the fruit growers in Florida and California. Or the price of cattle when they go to market. Our food prices have not been lowered in years. They are either the same or higher. That is absurd. I can't believe you said that. Now what is the real reason...

KRAFT!! Please tell me you guys have Safeways, Albertsons, or even a Piggly Wiggly up there??? Cuz I know ya'll gots McD's!

Seriously, is food that much higher?

Oh, and how much do I spend?? I don't, but I'll check with the Chef and Maid and ask them about those trivial things, I've really never gave it a thought..............

Ok Seriously
We found WinCo, kinda like your Costco, but no membership, no BULK! Super cheap on EVERYTHING!
I save the reciepts from Winco, and put them on the refrigerator

With meat (we usually buy a lot when its on sale, for our freezer) and Dog and Cat foods,AND all paper products and soap etc
We spend about $250 every 2 weeks.

(MY KIDS JUST GO THROUGH THE PLACE AND EAT! EVEN THOUGH BOTH DO NOT LIVE HERE)

So thats about $500 a month, but then that doesn't count for like the loaf of bread, milk, juice etc, CARNATION FRENCH VANILLA coffee creamer! (I gotta have that!)kinda stuff you pick up a couple days a week. So I wouldn't know the exact amount.

Dog Food is pricey for the 'specialty' one Mike insists the dog has, and the cat is on the 'Senior Diet' so thats more too.

And thats my thing is for groceries, telephones including cell phones, and water bill.

Near, I get that science diet for my cat too, so its more expensive, but if I buy the cheap stuff, he wont eat it so it goes to waste.

I try to pay the phone, cable and internet from ebay sales every month and will fill up the cars here and there and once in awhile will spend it on food if its an inbetween week. Whatever is left over I pretty much put back into it buying for stuff for ebay. It always goes way faster than it comes though!

I shop there and cry when it gets over $120 a month.

What is Canadian food anyways and why don't we ever see any Canadian restaurants here in the US like we see Mexican i.e tacos, burritos and refried beaners or Korean i.e wonton, schezwan, orange duck, etc.?? Canadians just have to have more than just bacon in thier diets, don't they??

ed; whoops, Kraft you posted just before me.

Kraft, the sprite and the cheese are way off! Soda here is anywhere from 80 cents to 1.79 for a two liter bottle. I dont buy whole pineapples, but I dont think they are 6.00 each? The rest seem pretty comparable somewhat depending on where ya shop. oh, and I think the spinach is higher in Canada too.

If the food comes from the US then I suppose the wholesaler has to pay a duty or taxes on that. Now take sprite the highest we pay here is probably $1.29 a two liter bottle. Wow your gallon of water seems pretty high especially when a lot of that comes from Canada. How does your small bottle water compare it is about $1.00.

How do your taxes run. That probably makes an impact on the food prices also. In Wisconsin we have no tax on food. In Illinois they have a (I think) 7% tax on food. Guess who shops in Wisconsin all the time. It is the same with clothes also.

Prices in the Maryland, D.C. area are approximately the same as KD and Kiara listed for Canada. Giant grocery store in our area has an on line price list here.

Kraft singles?

one of my all time favorites... that cheese-like substance that comes wrapped in plastic sheets. For the price, you could buy actual cheese, and do US dairy farmers a big favor.

Is there Krap in your Kraft Singles?

Thanks, profe51. I knew Kraft singles weren't all actual cheese but didn't realize that they had that Krap in them. Good thing when I went shopping today I bought real cheese as I don't think I want to eat Kraft singles again after reading that.
