Appears all is okay....as they've been allowed to return to the houses of Congress.
Told news statement about what happened will be issued within the hour.
Small plane flying in non-fly-zone it appears, who didn't or couldn't respond to the military jets sent up after them.

Dbl - how does a plane flying into restricted space and government buildings being evacuated as a result equate to some being asleep? Sounds to me like people were very attentive to the situation.
BTW - we left the 90's behind 5 years ago hon. We need to get you a new calendar.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Our own military has been known to violate no fly zones especially in other countries so why would it be inconceivable for someone else, especially a civilian, to do it accidentally? BTW, I don't think our military does it accidentally all the time.
Still, seems they were on top of the situation and it appears everyone acted in a calm and rational manner.

It was probably some fake drill to let the American public know how well the new security measures are working.

I don't remember the WH, and both Houses of Congress being evacuated when that governors small plane flew into the 'restricted zone' over the WH very recently. At that time, I just heard the report his pilot had accidently done so. Did I miss the evacuation then?

A red herring to preempt this bit of news.
Federal court today sided with United Airlines to screw it workers out of their pensions!

Linda - Yea, they did start evaculations for that one. Since government was not in session it was not as big a deal but you might remember that the viewing line got disrupted for a short time.

Dave - while I agree that what is happening with the persion funds is horrible, wouldn't it be just that much worse if United fails in its attempt to crawl out from under the bankruptcy and they lose their current employment as well as future pensions? It's a horrible situation but what are you going to do? Is there another solution that you think was bypassed?

davebraun I know a few United Airlines employees and they don't feel they got screwed. They still have a pension, not a lucrative as before, but still a pension and the main thing they still have a job...

fenix, I think you need another concentration pill. For your information crowfarm wrote in a post that trailed off and insinuated grammatically and otherwise..we were in the ninties...Newsflash:: It's a joke, black eye!
You know for somebody who claims to have a lot of common sense, you dont think too well out of the box (and I hate that saying) but you're so one dimensional one track thinking....I'd be hiding out in the latrine on a plane from you!
You'd probably like to discuss the intricacies of brain surgery and then do a post overkill of every blip on the news that day! Got that release? check. Got that release? Check! Got USA today covered. Check!

The problems with the airlines are another area where I don't know where I 'sit'...
I very much dislike the government bail-outs saving them from going bankrupt. That's a strong issue with me. But then again, as in this case, all the people who will get less than they thought they were working for isn't right either. I agree with fenix on her 'what's worse' comment....and think if the Feds didn't hand down this decision....more airlines would be following suit within a very short period of time.
Yet other airlines are staying in the black....and I just read where Northern Airlines had even ordered more planes. How do some do so well, while others faulter?
But I also don't understand why these airline's aren't charging what they need to charge so they don't get into a bankruptcy area where anyone has to suffer. Let those who use their services pay whatever it takes for their tickets so they CAN stay in the black ink and pay their employees fairly.

I think jet blue and a few others are doing well, too Linda.
Take people's pensions away from them so they can work for you a little longer? No way in high water do I think that is right!
*my humble opinon of course!

dbl-they didn't take their pensions away persa. They still have a pension, but not the United Airlines one. The total per year United spends on their pension plan is 650 million dollars and they can't afford that and keep the airline running. It's either dissolve the United pension or they are out of a job. My girlfriend and her husband both work for United and what they said was at least they won't lose their jobs. I understand the ramp men and others are probably going to strike and then they get no money. They do get some decent pay and that is better than unemployement then after unemployment nothing because there will be minimal airlines flying, if any.
It was the federal bankruptcy court that let them relieve their pension.

Libra - I heard something along the lines that while they wouldn't have the same pension with United...they'd be switched to a government pension...which our government would be paying for. Is that how you understand it from your friends?

In the last 4 or 5 years how many multi million dollar bonuses and so called Golden parachutes were taken away for the CEOs at United.
In the last 4 or 5 years how many other American workers have taken cuts or lost all their money in pension plans?
In the last 4 or 5 years how many American workers have taken cuts in pay or benefits just to keep a job?
In the last 4 or 5 years how many American workers lost a good paying job and were forced to take a job with less pay and benefits.
In the last 4 or 5 years how many American jobs have been outsourced and gone forever.
Millions of Americans have been asking these type of questions in the last 4 or 5 years.

Everyone that works for a company for I think 5 years is vested in the government pension plan. What I think United is going to do is put some money in that account for them and then that is the pension plan they are going to have. Of course it isn't what they thought it was going to be but this has been happening over the past years where little has been taken away each year. They never had a increase in their pension plan. They all knew it was going to happen as the airlines are in dire straights and have been for a number of years. They say it isn't the end of the world or anything but instead of spending now they will be saving more. She has worked for United for over 20 years him not so long. We did have a United
Terminal in Milwaukee but when they downsized they moved everything to Chicago so now instead of a 20 minute drive she and her husband drive a hour to O'Hare

Thank you for that information Libra. I suppose that was a reactionary statement on my part, but I am really kind of tired of the this ... at least... at least... Isnt one of the newer smaller, going better airlines comprised of a bunch of disenfranchized airline people/ employees from the 'big'ones? Do we have to fear so bad to have "a" job that now the standards will be lowered to no pensions from your corporate employers? airlines enjoyed such prestige at one time. I think they lowered their standards so much and thats when medusa showed her ugly head. Downhill ever since.
