This is a longer article so I'll just post a bit of it as I've been following the story for awhile. How sad for the parents to find out that their son has been used in this manner by the US government with such disrespect just to foster patriotism.

Tillman's Parents Are Critical Of Army

By Josh White, Washington Post Staff Writer
Mon May 23, 1:00 AM ET

Former NFL player Pat Tillman's family is lashing out against the Army, saying that the military's investigations into Tillman's friendly-fire death in Afghanistan last year were a sham and that Army efforts to cover up the truth have made it harder for them to deal with their loss.

More than a year after their son was shot several times by his fellow Army Rangers on a craggy hillside near the Pakistani border, Tillman's mother and father said in interviews that they believe the military and the government created a heroic tale about how their son died to foster a patriotic response across the country. They say the Army's "lies" about what happened have made them suspicious, and that they are certain they will never get the full story.

"Pat had high ideals about the country; that's why he did what he did," Mary Tillman said in her first lengthy interview since her son's death. "The military let him down. The administration let him down. It was a sign of disrespect. The fact that he was the ultimate team player and he watched his own men kill him is absolutely heartbreaking and tragic. The fact that they lied about it afterward is disgusting."

Immediately, the Army kept the soldiers on the ground quiet and told Tillman's family and the public that he was killed by enemy fire while storming a hill, barking orders to his fellow Rangers. After a public memorial service, at which Tillman received the Silver Star, the Army told Tillman's family what had really happened, that he had been killed by his own men.

That their son was famous opened up the situation to problems, the Tillmans say, in part because of the devastating public relations loss his death represented for the military. Mary Tillman says the government used her son for weeks after his death, perpetuating an untrue story to capitalize on his altruism -- just as the Abu Ghraib prison scandal was erupting publicly. She said she was particularly offended when President Bush offered a taped memorial message to Tillman at a Cardinals football game shortly before the presidential election last fall. She again felt as though her son was being used, something he never would have wanted.

It's sad , Kiara, but we know that the REPUGS will go to any length, tell any lie, cover up any crime, hurt anyone to further their cause....dead soldiers, dead babies ...they DON'T CARE!

They blatantly used Teri Schiavo, they used Tillman, they will use and abuse anybody with no shame .

Forgot to add...according to linduh's rules no one can post anymore to this thread or they will be considered obsessed stalkers...linduh has spoken!

It is very sad. I don't see how anyone on either side of the political fence can condone this, but I bet they will. It's a terrible thing to do to the family of a man who let go of a promising career to protect this country.

It brings back memories of the first time Tillman's death was discussed here and the controversy that topic caused.

Over a year later I see that nothing much has changed around here except a few more posters have disappeared.

They also lied and used Jessica Lynch in a similar attempt to boost morale and stir up patriotic feelings.

Saving Private Lynch story 'flawed

What an evil administration!

By the party that revived the Nazi doctrine of preventive war,

By the party that supports torture.

By the party that undermines science

By the party of unbridled greed and unbridled cruelty

By the party that aims to destroy the main state protections (paltry as they are in America....
for the indigent
for the bankrupt
for the ill
for the elderly

And by the party of fiscal irresponsibility on a scale that would make Rockefeller Republicans faint.

It brings back memories
and,

but I bet they will.

A republican has yet to even answer any of you yet!!! LOL!! Talk about beating a drum beat!

btw, I dont remember them making such a big statement about how he died. As far as what I saw on tv, etc. it was regret that he died by sports figures and those who knew him. I only remember hearing about how initially and seems to me it was not so pumped up, but I could have missed it as that wasnt my focus of his death.

..

edit to add: The Tillmans are angry, understandably so but its not going to bring their son back. A choice he made to serve in the military, nobody else put him there.

I never had children so I won't presume to know the true depths of pain at losing a child...unimaginable....but to know that the death of that son or daughter was USED for political gain has to increase the pain immeasurably.

Have these Republicans No shame...No conscience ??????

dblfugger9, where do you see me referring to Republicans in my post??

I said a discussion of Tillman brings back memories of when he was first discussed here.

So please refrain from jumping to wrong conclusions about what I said. Thank you.

Actually, I think that the earlier thread is very intersting in light of this news. It serves to illustrate just how so many can be easily brainwashed to belive a lie.

Well kiara, do provide some proof, some links if you will, as to how this "how" he died was overblown and used for political gain?

I am lucky if I saw a blip about it, then it was gone.

dont provide buttons when your talking diamonds.

The OP is ammunition enough. but as usual the repugs want to fight.....no comment on the OP ...just fight.

linduh, why don't you call Tillman's parents and sing Kumbaya to them......or better yet pay them a visit and ridicule their son's sacrifice.

I'm sure you'd enjoy that.

Kiara, I went to the original Tillman link you provided - what a hoot!! Nobody really talked about him, instead, they were all concerned about me using the word "waste" for 4 pages. (I wonder what the blood pressure reading was for the righties?) It made Twelvepole so angry, he picked out our coffins!! (I had forgotten which thread that was on.)

I miss Reamond.

dblfugger9 and Linda_k, perhaps if you would have paused to read the first link I provided it would have answered some of your questions.

That way you may be better prepared for an intelligent discussion instead of playing your infantile silly winky games.
