U.S. Forces Mistakenly Detain Sunni Chief

Updated 6:12 PM ET May 30, 2005

By PAUL GARWOOD

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The U.S. military nearly set off a sectarian crisis Monday by mistakenly arresting the leader of Iraq's top Sunni Muslim political party, while two suicide bombers killed about 30 police, and U.S. fighter jets destroyed insurgent strongholds near Syria's border.

Northeast of Baghdad, an Iraqi military aircraft crashed Monday during a mission with four American troops and one Iraqi on board, the U.S. military said. It was not immediately clear what their condition was or even what kind of aircraft it was.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. military in Baghdad, Sgt. Kate Neuman, said the four Americans were military personnel.

And on Memorial Day, the U.S. military said American soldier Spc. Phillip Sayles, of the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, was killed in an attack Saturday in the northern city of Mosul. As of Monday, at least 1,657 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Hey Crow,You forgot to mention the over 10,000 wounded. Is the cost of the war up to 100 Billion yet? I heard there is less electricity in Iraq now than before the war. I wonder where all the Billions in rebuilding money has gone?

Bear and Libra63 can't defend their failed leader and HIS WAR. So all they can do about Crow's post is make themselves look stupid.

Linda_K you can't even get this right. I didn't call Bear and Libra63 ignorant. I called your sister and son on this board about their posts STUPID and I stand by my comment.

Libra

I'm astounded how you can be so nasty without calling anyone names.

Linda

I think bigpeepa was being sarcastic. Or, can't you tell the difference?

The cost of the war in Iraq is over $150 billion dollars (an exact figure is hard to determine for some reason) and I think bigpeepa knows that. It could top $220 billion dollars.

Just think what $150+ billion dollars could have accomplished here. How many homeless could have been taken off the streets and given the mental and physical treatments they need? How many prescription drugs would it have bought for those that can't afford them? How many heart transplants or kidney transplants could that money have bought for those who couldn't afford the surgery and died as a result? How many school books could have been bought or how many school buildings in deplorable condition could have been rebuilt or restored? How about more money to AIDS research or Cancer research or Heart Disease research? How many lives could we have saved here?

How many poor could have been lifted out of poverty (the number of people living in poverty is steadily increasing)?

But, the right doesn't believe in helping the poor even though the Bible states time and time again that you should. Don't tout how religious you are or how much Christianity means to you or how we should be displaying bible quotes in public buildings while at the same time screaming that the poor are poor by their own fault and condemning them.

"Anyone who oppresses the poor is insulting God who made them. To help the poor is to honour God." Proverbs 14:31

"I want you to share your food with the hungry and bring right into your own homes those who are helpless, poor, and destitute. Clothe those who are cold and don't hide from relatives who need your help. If you do these things, God will shed His own glorious light upon you. He will heal you; your godliness will lead you forward, and goodness will be a shield from behind… .Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too." Isaiah 58:7-11

"Listen to me, dear brothers: God has chosen poor people to be rich in faith, and the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs, for that is the gift God has promised to all those who love Him." James 2:5, TLB

"For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy."
--Psalm 72:12-13

Instead of helping people here, we've increased the debt that families will carry on into generations.

Crow

I'm not surprised that they mistaking arrested someone. Our servicemen are under extreme stress and are over worked. Mistakes are bound to happen. Had the war been planned out, I think much of what is going on could have been prevented. However, we must remember that Saddam was set to attack us in 15 minutes. What else could we do? You do know I'm being sarcastic with the last two sentences of that paragraph, I hope. Just thought I'd point that out and make it clear just in case someone thought I was serious.

How many missions are there in your area Cheryl?
Homeless have access to many places. I know of numerous churches that will feed them and clothe them even give them a bible. So how much more help are you expecting?

Have you ever tried to give one of the corner standers a job as their sign says? Most will not take the offer. I seen one change his sign right after I asked him to help me.

One was even standing on the corner near where I worked, gave him a business card, told him who to contact for a job, never came in and month later back on the corner. I just shook my head everytime I passed and he would turn away.

and some of people you may think are homeless are not, they would rathr panhandle than work a regular job.

I'm astounded how you can be so nasty without calling anyone names

Wow Cheryl you must be reading something that I didn't post. Putting Crowfarm on Ignore is nasty? Taking bigpeepa to task about changing SS numbers is nasty? Posting a thread for Linda to read is nasty?

Bear and Libra63 can't defend their failed leader and HIS WAR. So all they can do about Crow's post is make themselves look stupid But bigpeepa can call me stupid and I didn't even read crowfarms post.

What are you reading into this thread that I said. This is what happens in this discussion board. Defend the people that call names Cheryl and chastise the ones that don't. There is or was no name calling by me.

So you think that was a nasty comment Cheryl. If you would understand bigpeepa and the way he posts he never goes back to anything that he posts so you have to get him while the getting is good.

Since I didn't read crowfarms original post does the price of the war have anything to do with it?

Okay I took the ignore off cheryl. Wow! What do you think of crowfarm calling me "an old bigot bat", lalalibra the gaga singer, your IQ is -2, ignorant". Oh by the "weinies" in another post and in that same post ,she's totally ga-ga.

No name calling there, right Cheryl?

I don't hide behind anything crowfarm but I am going to turn it on again. Until you learn the meaning of respect it will be on forever.

Now the statements from bigpeepa also does not go along with her original post so I don't see you saying anything to him about it. What you need to do is watch your P's and Q's Cheryl and try and be a little more honest with your posting. What you said is a total sham. Then Helen comes in and defends you. I will bet she would be ashamed as you would be if someone called you those names. Crowfarm just tries to start arguements with the way she posts and I for one will not get into her type of posting. The only ones that stand by her are the ones she doesn't attack with her foul mouth, like you, helen, kiara, KD, bigpeepa and I am sorry I missed a few.

Oh darn I didn't address the OP. So what is new. Now in your words what was so offensive about my post?

Libra63, I think that anyone who constantly announces that they have someone on ignore doesn't have them on ignore at all....... they don't have the willpower to ignore them and you’re so obsessed with Crowfarm that you openly slipped up a few times and showed us your ignore button wasn’t on at all.... then you address her on almost every thread and you even click on topics she starts only to fire more insults at her and now you openly admit you took her off ignore just to read what she says..... Hahahahaha

You are currently ignoring all Message Center posts by crowfarm. Click here to view them

Now do you have special spy ware that you can see what my computer says if not keep your nose out of it.

It is difficult for all of you, KD, Helen, kiara, bigpeepa etc. to understand that crowfarm is sick. The more nasty words she uses the better all you like it. The more you encourage her. You posters are enablers, do you understand. Now if I want to put her on ignore that is my privilege and none of your business.

peepa says: Once again the L sisters have nothing to say that can defend their failed leader BUSH.

You post SHOWS your OWN ignorance, peepa...nothing to do with President Bush at all.

THEY ARE A SHAMELESS PAIR

LOL I think it's so much MORE shameless to be SO uninformed about the FACTS but still continue acting like you have a clue as to what you're talking about and expect ANYONE to listen to you. Now THAT'S SHAMELESS.

Let's see....while campaigning for president....KERRY make the statement [on Sept. 8, 2004 that the war to that point had cost us $200 billion dollars.

SINCE then our Congress has passed another funding bill for and additional $82 billion. By MY math...that would be a total of $282 billion dollars......

but then there's peepa....."Is the cost of the war up to 100 Billion yet?"

Better to get yourself informed than to come here telling others what they don't know....to come here 'preaching' to INFORM the American people when YOU don't have a clue as to what's going on.
------------

And, of course, most people who stay CURRENT know that kerry was lying about the $200 billion in the first place, back when he lied about that too [Sept 2004]. But hey....that was THE guy THEY wanted to put in the WH. Another one, like peepa, that has/had no clue.

I think bigpeepa was being sarcastic. Or, can't you tell the difference?

You would...your personal inability to see most things/issues as they really are...has been noticed.

I clearly SEE that he hasn't a clue what he talks about - how uninformed he is. The fact that YOU choose to defend his total lack of knowledge....and suggest it's me who doesn't notice the difference between ignorance and sarcasm is only laughable, cheryl.

Just think what $150+ billion dollars could have accomplished here.

There you go again....yes, let's just ignore the realities of what happened on 9-11...let's just ignore the realities of what happened in Spain...lets just ignore the realities of all the bombing the terrorist have done all over....and put our money's elsewhere.

Wake up call, cheryl.

That's what clinton did...he basically ignored the attacks on us..and AQ grew more brave...and gave us 9-11. This President took action on what we and most of the world believed...that saddam had WOMD.

I just love it when ultra-liberals/progressives/socialists like you think that funding should be spent on OTHER things, rather than defense of our Nation. Somehow you just don't get it that if we don't protect and secure our country....social programs will be the LEAST of our concerns.

But, the right doesn't believe in helping the poor even though the Bible states time and time again that you should.

That's an out and out lie, cheryl.

Now you're turning to the Bible to chastise the 'right' about what they should do?
how funny.

First of all, your above statement of 'not believing in helping the poor' shows your own ignorance. Then you seem to be under some FALSE impression that all on the 'right' believe in the Bible. WAKE UP CALL, cheryl. Or implying none on the left do. Like when CLINTON cut welfare funding...just how would someone like you, who makes such false statements, justify that as 'the right not helping the poor'. Last I heard clinton was still a democrat.

Don't tout how religious you are or how much Christianity means to you or how we should be displaying bible quotes in public buildings while at the same time screaming that the poor are poor by their own fault and condemning them.

First YOU don't have control over what anyone can and can't say. Boy....all you ultra-left women here sure like to tell others what to do or not do. Secondly I have NEVER touted how religious I am, here or anywhere else....again it's YOUR FAULTY WAY OF NOT SEE THINGS CLEARLY....

You are getting more and more delusional all the time cheryl.

And if you don't want to see the 10 commandments in public....then don't look at them anywhere, including on our USSC building if it bothers you so much.

"[i]the poor are poor by their own fault and condemning them[/b]"

Imo, you're continuing to deny the biggest reason people are where they are....the fact of the situation...that it's because of the choices THEY made in their lives. No one held them down...no one oppressed them....we all have the same opportunity to succeed. Some choose to stay at low-paying jobs....like YOU do cheryl. It's your choice.

And the republicans DO offer the poor much help....they just expect at some point the people can get on their own two feet. VS you and your socialist platform, believes THE GOVERNMENT owes anyone and everyone a cradle to grave handout when THEY CHOOSE to be productive or not.

And then you continue on with YOUR Bible quoting. It this the same cheryl that doesn't want religion shoved down her throat - that thinks this President is just a little TOO religious for her own liking? Well...then how about YOU not constantly continue to put up Bible verses yourself. Don't you see the irony in that action? I sure do.
