Okay bigpeepa, how do you expect to fund it. You say public funding.
Like taxes? Now that's a laugh. Seniors are crying now they don't want to pay more tax dollars to support the school system. We are taxed to death.

Yes Libra63, I agree we are way over taxed. Plus all I see is more taxes coming no matter who is the President or what party he or she is from. I am betting in the not to distant future we all will have to charge some kind of National Sales Tax on Internet sales. Thats because we are not running the show we are setting back and are letting the politicians run the show.
Back to funding stem cell research. I don't have all the answers on how to fund stem cell research and yes higher taxes are one way. I do think you and I can agree that the all Law Markers waist billions of dollars in Tax payers money. Clinton had a good economy but didn't lower any taxes. Than Bush comes along and gives people like you and I a few bucks back in taxes. I don't know about you but what money I got back is long gone in higher taxes and prices on everything else.
I don't know but is there a reason why we can't fund a program and and expect to get paid back from the success of that program.
Why can't we make a National project out of stem cell research like we did years ago with the Manhattan project to develop the A-Bomb. Why can't we take a bunch of researches and Doctors put them in one place to do nothing but find cures for horrid disease.
I am not trying to get you upset about embryos being used for research but if lots of them are being thrown away or burned what ever they do with the unwanted embryos. I just can't see the big deal about using them for research with the hope we can start curing disease.
Once again I am not trying to get you upset about the Iraq war. I am not saying if the war is justified or not. All I am saying is the U.S. can spend billions and billions of dollars going to war but really does not take very good care of its people. Maybe the U.S. should keep its nose out of others countries business for awhile.
We rank 26th down the list of countries as far as taking care of our people. Its not Bush's fault its not Clinton's fault its our fault for letting those bastards (all of them no matter what party) pit all of us at each others throats on issues some emotional some not.
Libra63 I think you have to agree with me that the rich are doing very well while people like you and I are finding it harder and harder making a go of it. Its all because you believe one thing and I might believe another and neither will compromise. The politicians know that and play us like a violins.
You and I both have to be willing to give up something for the better of our country. You can't be a bull head and I can't be one either or the bastards will just keep running over us all.
I want you to know something that I have never mentioned on this board before. I have had 3 Cancer operations over a 8 year period and so far I am beating it. I don't think stem cell reserach will help me because I'm too dam old to see its results. I want to see results for your kid and my kid and their kids and their kids. That's what I want to see from stem cell research.

I will tell you bigpeepa I am not one of the seniors that think I pay to high taxes. Some seniors forget they had children and someone paid for them. I hate it when I hear that. Teachers need to be paid for their time, children need good teachers and if it takes more of my money so be it. It will be for a better America. In another subject about teachers I think their benefits need to be changed to reflect the workers of the US. Retirement age at 62 or 65, instead of 57 with full benefits.
What I am upset about is the embros used for stem cell. If those embros are made available for Husbands and Wives to have children then that is what they should be used for instead of adopting babies from Vietnam etc. That is what I think they should use those embros for. Embros when fertilized will evidentally become productive citizens. It has been said that it takes a family of 5 to make sure our population doesn't diminish so I think that is our first priority. I am sure there is something that prevents the use of empbro by another family but I think it would be the same for Embronic Stem cell.

Well, you are assuming that the owners.parents of said embryos want their biological children being raised by others. Even if they did, that whole concept just suffered a MAJOR blow when the courts decided that a sperm donor is responsible for child support. Now not only are you expecting a couple to allow someone else to give birth to and raise their biological child but be willing to accept financial responsibility for that child.
Besides, if there are already children in need of homes, why create more? Why not provide those already existing children with homes and use the unwanted embryos to help someday return quality of life to the living.

Well bigpeepa that is what is happening here. Every person here has a valid post, there is always "someone" that destroys it so therefore the discussion ends and the name calling begins.
I am pretty open minded but as stated I do not believe in abortion, partial birth abortion and embronic stem cell. Who know as I get older will I change, only time will tell.

Libra - I don't think that they should have to do either. At the same time though I do not believe that they should be denied to either or that is should be made difficult.
I think the law banning public funds is short sighted and the court ruling assigning financial liability to the biological parent(s) is assinine.

Libra63, If stem cell research from Embryos found a cure for Cancar. And God forbid someone like your Daughter got Cancer. Would you support your Daughter using treatment from stem cell research?

First, it is not my decision to make. It is hers. I don't know her views on it because that is not a hot topic for her.
I think I answered it before but. Now scientists have come a long way to cure cancer. They have made many strides. Breast Cancer if caught early enough is cureable, if in the late stage I doubt stem cell would help, but I might be wrong. They know have what they think is a cure for ovarian cancer. Colon cancer is cureable if caught early enough and I doubt in later stages if stem cell would help. Colonoscopy at age 40 is recommended. There is a lot of medical breakthrough and before everyone jumps and thinks that stem cell is the cure for everything it isn't. So to answer your question it is up to my daughter to decide if it is for her or not. I don't know if stem cell would help one of my Granddaughters but it again is their decision and theirs only. I hope you understand.

Now read it slowly libra and Ron. "support" is a key word... I already know it's her decision, that's not the answer.
The words " would you support" do not say "make up her mind for her" ...can you two tell the difference?

Since when am I beating around the BUSH. I answered to the best of my ability because I don't know my daughters view on that.
What is your problem I do not control what my daughter does. I do not guide her in her day to day activities. No matter what my views our has nothing to do with her.
