OK, maybe not "through and through," but something like that. At least part of the time. Maybe.

But, you've blown my cover. Shani is my SIL, and will probably ban me from Thanksgiving at her house upon learning that I am not kind and gentle.

It's all your fault. As usual.

Jules,
Does that mean you're coming again this year??? Remember, I married your brother, I know more than you think!!! Now it's just a matter of keeping you away from my blood kin so you don't find out the truth about me!

Julesy,

Kind and gentle, through and through...but you should have at least
left him swinging in the breeze when he said, Hi, Julesy.."Could you
clarify this?"

PayPal has lost a little more credibility.

HI HJW,

I was asking Julesy to clarify that her account was not accessed without her permission, which seemed to be implied.

Krs,

You're such a peach these days. What in the hell happened?

Er, wait, don't answer that.

Shani --

I'd really, really love to get up there this year. I am gonna check around and see what is doable.

HJW --

Nah, gotta do this the fair way. I opened up this thread, and it is only right that all viewpoints and info be provided. I don't want people misled; I just want clarification. If paypal see's this as a way to make their system better, than that is okay, too.

Hi Julesy,

Thanks. I reinforced the room for error on my end of day. I do appreciate the dialogue we had.

I appreciate the dialogue as well, though what does this mean..."I reinforced the room for error on my end of day?"

Something potentially good, I take?

wooo hooo the peanuts would be coming too??? That's a first. Don't worry, your brother loads up on the kiddie food for himself. I'm sure he'll share with the younguns!!! Me? I'm a completely different story!!!

That has been my point all along and they will keep doing this until people draw the line and say "no more!" My wife has wanted to drop them for quite a while but I won't do that until there is a viable alternative. I like to keep the customers happy!

It is interesting to me that Damon will not answer questions that might make PayPal look bad. He seems to avoid them.

Paypaldamon said:
However, as far as how our system reads it, there is a credit card on file (the debit card) and the bank account. The customer has a drop down menu appear when they want to make a payment asking if they want to pay with a bank account or a credit card.

I could not believe that when I read it. PayPal is categorizing debit cards as credit cards. Debit cards are BANK ACCOUNT CARDS. They are in NO WISE "credit cards." There is no extension of credit; funds are DEBITED from the user's bank account virtually instantaneously. Moreover, the laws that apply to credit-card transactions (including chargebacks) do not apply to debit-card transactions, and it doesn't matter how many interbank logos and holograms are plastered on those cards.

If I've misunderstood something in this quagmire, I'm sure some kind soul will suffer to point it out.

Hi pareau,

Many of our users, when they first signed up for an account, used their debit card as their credit card when registering (because they have the visa/mc logo on them they can be used in a manner similar to a credit card).

This could possibly lead to confusion because users associate their bank account with their debit card and may be under the impression it is being drawn from that when using the "PAY WITH A BANK ACCOUNT" option.

Okay I have read and reread this whole thread - let's see if I understand what happened or allegedly happened.
1. Julesy had a debit card in place of her charge card to pay for purchases.

2. She registers a SECOND charge card

3. She makes a purchase and selects her debit card (read charge card as opposed to bank account)to pay for the item.

4. PayPal takes the money out of her BANK ACCOUNT - the one used to verify the account

5. Somehow - the debit card was removed prior to action 2 - error on PayPals part? Confusing system? User error? Who knows!

I STILL do not see how the money came out of her business/verified bank account. The only way this can be so, is if she opted for BANK Account in step 3 - though she says she did not. PLEASE - can SOMEONE - Julesy/PayPalDamon clear this little discrepancy up? I REALLY think this is important!

Also - what about the auto debit form sent to Julesys bank? Why was that form used to get the money out of the BANK account - is that normal PayPal procedure when getting money from a bank account at the request of a user? Thanks -Rosalinda

Rosalinda --

Remember, the debit card was removed *prior* to these purchases being made (the ones which hit my bank account as auto-debits). I don't know how the card came off. Regardless, I still deducted all my purchases from my check register, thinking all along that I was still using the debit card, so however it was taken off could not have been obvious. I think this is one of the things Damon is checking into; whether there is something on the add/remove page which might be misleading or confusing.

I probably chose "BANK ACCOUNT" as a payment choice, thinking I was still using my debit card, which to my knowledge hadn't been removed.

As far as the auto-debit thing, this is something I hope Damon clears up.

Thanks Julesy - that clears up and or explains all the points but one (ok maybe two) and does support PayPals claim to not take money out of a verified bank account without a request from the account owner. It is a relief to know that - hope they get all their other growing pains worked out. -Rosalinda
