Im not sure exactly what Brandi Bloodworths shopping for a new hat to go to the Kentucky Derby has to with fat people.
Is she overweight, or just a fathead??

My point exactly, stopwhining.
"What has Neimans got to do with fat people, you ask"
I don't know, stopwhining brought it up. She said if you would stop shopping at Wal-Mart and go to Neimans, you wouldn't see fat people.

From CBS News Sunday Morning..
"The size of the American woman is a hugely intense and much talked about topic these days," says Timothy Gunn, who chairs the Department of Fashion Design at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. He says, while the numerical size of a woman's garment has decreased, its physical size has increased.
Brzezinski asked Gunn about something she's noticed over the years: "As I grow, I've … actually become sizes I always wanted to be. How did that happen?"
"The American fashion industry," Gunn responded, "wants the consumer to believe that, in fact, they are something they are not. It's a very clear case of commerce deceiving the public. …'The sizing scheme,' I think we could call it, by seducing the plus-sized woman into the store and saying, 'Feel good about yourself because, in fact, you're only a (size) 12. You may think you're more than that, but in our establishment, you are a 12.' And you can say that with impunity."
To show how sizing has changed over time, Gunn showed Brzezinski size eight dresses from the 1980s, '90s, and today. The waist circumference on a 1984 dress was 25-1/2 inches. On the 1995 dress, it was 26 inches. And on a 2004 dress, it was 27-1/2, a two-and-a-half inch difference from 1984 to 2004.
Gunn says the deception is intentional, "because the woman has gotten bigger, yet her size gets smaller."
The sizing deception, Brzezinski points out, is a product of American ingenuity. Sizing standards in other parts of the world have remained constant.
"The Europeans have an entirely different view of fashion," Gunn says, "and their sizing hasn't changed."

I've heard/read that too maggie.
======
On the other end of the 'weight' issue we have way too many young girls who are so overly concerned about their weight....even when they're at very normal weights...that they are developing eating disorders to be in 'fashion' with being thin. Those eating disorders are just as serious, imo, as is being overweight.

About the clothes sizing: When married in 1959, my waist was 23" and I wore a size 12!!
About the overeating public:
Just once, I'd like to see a sermon in one of the churches that preaches about the 7 deadly sins ABOUT a sin other than SEXUAL. The emphasis in today's churches seems to be:
SEXUAL SEXUAL SEXUAL SEXUAL SINS
And MAYBE all the others: pride, envy, sloth, etc. and . . . TA DA. . . GLUTTONY.
Gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins, and how many of the clergy have those big beer bellies?!!
Secondly (as long as I'm ranting), I believe that the Catholic church condemns suicide as a sin. But aren't the smokers, heavy drinkers, and overeaters committing slow suicide? Does the church preach that angle on such stupidities?
Thirdly: Stealing is considered a sin, and yet does any church teach that your smoking and overeating will rob your neighbor by causing his health insurance to rise?

Yes, so true.. my grand daughters are two examples of that...they look anorexic in my opinion.. but they impress me with the good food choices that they make..they just don't seem to eat enough..

Roadsmith, yes it does, at least the ones I've known. Your body is the temple of God, and youre not supposed to defile it in any way. What church do you go to that is totally focused on the sexual?

Maggie, I wish I saw that. I usally watch that show on Sunday Morning. I used to like on the Road and that other News/American culture type show...I forget the name of it.
I've seen where designers are making more and more clothing in larger sizes. They dont talk about it too much, but its evident in the stores. And extex and SW, hell, even Isaak Mizrahi is selling to target now!! But why not if they can reach a market-right? I remember when Pierre Cardin was all the rage in the 70ties. Well, after the name license was sold all the stuff was being made in China and people still bought it thinking it was high designer merchandise. btw,do any of you watch that reality show with Tommy Hilfiger? That is a weird reality show...but for some reason I always seem to catch it on. I kinda like in a curious way,.. but I never did care for that model reality show.

I did see that program once, DBL..but the one I got hooked on is "Hell's Kitchen" with Gordon Ramsey..
As far as fashion goes..I'm afraid I'm a blue jeans/white shirt kind of gal.. and when I dress up.. it's a good pair of blue jeans/white shirt and navy blazer.. LOL And don't forget the penny loafers..Maggie

...aw maggs, youre a yuppie? Isnt that yuppie/preppie look from the 80ties? lol!
...I will admit that is the most comfortable style going. And I am pretty much into it myself, except I dont do the loafers. Just knock around sneakers, or athletic shoes as they like to call them now. But when I worked I enjoyed dressin' up and just puttin different things together...
ps: What is Hells Kitchen? Is it on cbs? I dont think i ever watched it, unless I did and didnt take note of the name....

No, it's a very classy and classic style.
Maggie, I go with the loafers , too. Good leather loafers are so much classier than big, white, hot athletic shoes.
Ok let fat people be fat but why do fat people wear short shirts and blouses, male or female... HIDE IT!

dbl: I think I should have clarified my point about the 7 deadly sins. My complaints are centered more on the "Christian" Right, which seems focussed on
*abortion
*birth control
*homosexuality
*"bad" music, movies, plays (sexual, that is)
etc.
I'd love to see that bunch get focussed on, say, gluttony. Instead, I see those Southern preachers with their shirt buttons busting off, bellies hanging over the belt, etc. Self-satisfied smirks: "I've railed against sexual sins; I've helped elect candidates who agree with my slant; now I'm going to go stuff my face Because I Can!"

crowfarm, youre greatest desire is to make anyone feel as inferior as you are. However, your baiting tactics are quite obvious, and sux bigtime kid, - therefore you are just a pathetic, lonely, OLD miserable, dimwit.

I think its a shame so many kids are extremely overweight. What really makes it bad is more kids are probably diabetic than they have ever been.

Roadsmith, lol!! Preacher Pie Ala Mode, southern style!! Your statement makes me think of Jerry Falwell in particular.
But yes, youre right, gluttony is probably the least talked about - and it applies to so many things!
- Have you ever listened to Joyce Myers? I like her. She speaks about weight, appearance, and other things that tip over into gluttony and/or vanity. She even did a whole series on it. She is very practical and down to earth about it as it applies to God and the bible, too.

LOL..DBL..you may be right..but it could be worse, I could be stuck in the 60's and still wearing mini skirts and white go go boots!
Now that would be a sight to see..ha.
In my old age.. I like to dress comfortably, fashion takes a back seat to comfort..
Mingo, I like the short shirts! LOL.. not showing my tummy, but just to the waist..
Talking about fashion trends.. what's up with all the piercing and tattoos. So many more teens are getting everything pierced or tattooed noses, tongues, navels..eyebrows etc..yuck..

Joyce Myers--Of all the preachers on TV, she makes the most sense. Channel-surfing, I've caught her show a few times for a few minutes, and she isn't the typical TV preacher at all. I haven't heard her talk about gluttony in particular, but I'll bet she'd have something to say about it.

Yes, Maggie, that's fine but fat people move and bend when wearing these short things and ROLLS fall out and hang over their pants and they think they look good!!!!
I've seen young girls who look like the Michelin Man(remember him ..stacks of tires)
Layers of FAT exposed like it's supposed to be sexy????

I believe the maker of the clothes (Levi, Bongo ,Calivn Klien, Hilfiger etc) size differently. I used to love Bongo, and they seemed to run really small in the mid '90's.
I wouldn't mind being stuck in the 70's, I'd even wear the bell bottoms again! (I know, they wear them now, but not I, my Levis are all Classic cut, or boot cut)
