Because the Boy Scouts have reached this mythical level that keeps politicians from using common sense out of fear of losing a vote.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

I don't see their votes for that reason. I think they can see that there is/was discrimination going on.
But ...I might just 'buy' your reason. That would just prove to more people THOSE dems have no guts to stand up for what they really believe in....are just voting for what's popular....and certainly can't be trusted to 'stand up against' our enemies then.
I mean IF, by your reasoning, they don't have the 'guts' to take on the BS....then no wonder American's can't trust them to protect this Nation.

Linda - if think that Dems are the only ones that forgo common sense in order cater to voters then you know nothing about politics and I know that's not true. Your statement is so partisan is ridiculous. For some reason it also adopts an assumption that no republican members believe that allowing Boy Scouts rights to public venues that are not afforded to others is fair and correct and not even I believe that every republican is that dense.

lol maggie.....
fenix - you're the one that gave that reason/excuse, not me....[b]I, on the other hand was giving the benefit of the doubt to ALL THOSE DEMOCRATS who voted the 'right' way.

Ron - the problem I see in you arguement is that things are "right by comparision" and personally, thats about the last road I want to see our politicians to start going down. It's too much of a slippery slope.
I don't really have anything against the Boy Scouts. I mean, I think that some of their policies are ridiculous but they are a private organization and if they want to deny themselves membership and leadership based on something as irrelevent as sexual orientation then so be it. Their loss. I just don't believe that they deserve priviledges that are not afforded to other organizations and that's what this "protection" bill does.

I wanted to see just who the 5 were that didn't vote at all.....and on the Senate website....it shows only TWO didn't vote....Craig (R) from ID....and Rockefeller (D) from WV. So it turns out the vote was 98-0.
All those fine 98 Senators who know the value scouting provides to our young, impressional men and women.....and the fine, outstanding citizens who came from all American groups like these.
