Thanks for being the first leftie to step up to the plate, helen.

So that's one [NO].

Any more takers?

My answer was yes, linda.

I wouldn't advise anyone to answer your question because you will only use it as something else to distort. In fact maybe not answering is the way to bring to your attention how little we appreciate your nasty remarks. I'm only suprised that you failed to add your laugh of scorn. What a terrible thing a vulgar old woman can be.

Of course I believe in allegiance to American values such as unity, liberty, justice and freedom, including freedom of religion.. But before answering your question in the affirmative, I want to point out to you that my pledge is not the same as your pledge. My pledge is to the people of this country whereas your pledge represents an unqualified and unquestioning loyalty to the Bush administration.

You're wrong once again, helen. You don't get to 'make your own pledge up'. I asked who from the left actually would be willing to say our American pledge. And you would NOT.

You prefer your own. But guess what....American already HAS an official pledge.....we don't need yours.

The question was about the one we already have.

And you wouldn't....so just admit it. A simple no is quite honest when you wouldn't.

so far neither KD, kiara nor logansdad are willing to answer the question even though it's been asked directly of them.

So I'll count that as three more NO's. Total of 4 so far.

No helen, you are wrong.....wrong....wrong....

Those who don't answer ARE answering no.

Otherwise if they have a sense of pride in our country, flag and pledge then it's so easy to say yes. To show the patriotism they proclaim to have for the USA.

All I hear is silence....an unwillingness to state a simple yes or no.

Well....except for you, who thinks she can make up her own pledge.

I don't understand why ANY democratic patriot would have a problem answering this question.

If you have one....why don't you share it.

Okay...and here's the Canadian pledge....maybe KD, kaira or any other Canadian will say if they would repeat their own country's pledge.

PLEDGE TO THE CANADIAN FLAG

To my Flag and to the country it represents, I pledge RESPECT and LOYALTY.
Wave with PRIDE from sea to sea and within your folds, keep us ever UNITED.
Be for all a symbol of LOVE, FREEDOM and JUSTICE.
God keep our FLAG.
God protect our CANADA.

----------

Or do both of them have one 'foot' in each country...and aren't willing to make a pledge to either country?

profe, I've always had trouble believing that true patriots are what they claim when the have two different countries they either live in or love.

If you're willing....would you call yourself a patriot to the USA when you also have dual citizenship to Mexico?

Of course I would.

Patriotic dissenters will work for changes they want to see.....

If there were a war or just a major disagreement with which country would you pledge your allegiance to? Mexico or America....IF they weren't both on the same side.

It would depend upon how I felt about the issues that caused the war. I do not equate blind allegiance with patriotism, I equate it with ignorance.

It appears to me, based on something you said in a later post after the ones above, that you simply don't believe someone with dual citizenship can be a patriot. If that's the case, there's nothing else to discuss, as I'm not about to try and convince you otherwise. Talk about an exercise in futility.....and by the way, I say the pledge 5 times a week during the opening of my class.

What was the question?

I'm not asking you to explain anything to me, profe. I have my own opinions. All I asked was what I asked.

You say it would
depend....and yet on everything that has come up for discussion that involves Mexico it appears to me that you side with them, rather than with the US.

You might be saying the pledge each day, because you are a teacher and that's what school children do. Doesn't mean it can be assumed that you personally feel more committed/loyal to the US than you do to Mexico....and that's why I asked.

And thank you for your honest answer.

Perhaps when Linda starts answering questions that were asked to her, people will respond to your questions Linda.

helen, kiara, KD, profe, fenix, mingo/crow/LB/dave/rusty/peepa/maggie/logansdad/cheryl?

So now Linda believes mingo, crow,LB, Dave, Rusty, Peepa, Maggie, myself and Cheryl are all the same person.

Maybe Linda has multiple personalities that we don't know about

Maybe Linda should recite the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence because I do not believe she knows what those two documents mean.

You say it would depend....and yet on everything that has come up for discussion that involves Mexico it appears to me that you side with them, rather than with the US.

Only two topics that I can recall have ever come up here that have to do with Mexico. One is NAFTA, and you'd be hard pressed to say I've sided with Mexico in that regard. Mexico the country LOVES NAFTA, and I have never been a fan of it. Immigration is the other topic, and while I've often spoken in support of immigrants, that doesn't necessarily mean I support the Mexican government's action or lack of action regarding the problem.
This is precious little proof that I would take Mexico's side in any given disagreement.

We are required to offer a time for the Pledge of allegiance in class. Neither students nor teachers are required to say it if they don't want to. I say it because I want to. You asked who would say it. I answered and then you doubt my reasons for saying it are genuine...good grief.

Linda, you've been hilarious in this thread! I picture you standing at attention with some kind of home made uniform on, in front of a 40 foot flag you have draped across your living room window and life size oil painting of Bush, repeating "The Pledge" over and over, only to take breaks to reply to us by saying how patriotic you are compared to everyone else here.

But just for the sake of arguement, if you were the most patriotic person here, then what?

Ron, most Mexicans I know have figured out they've been shafted by NAFTA, and are now equally suspicious of CAFTA. Only the absolutely wealthiest are profiting from it, with the possible exception of truckers who now can more easily cross and do business here. There are some smaller operators there who are doing well by it, at least they were until fuel got so pricey. I have a cousin who runs a small fleet of trucks hauling produce out of Sinaloa. He's telling me I'm not going to believe the price of produce this coming winter...
