Getting back to the topic, or more accurately, the topic of the topic, I think fenix is correct that many threads get derailed or shoot off in other directions. My original tongue in cheek retort was brought about because this particular thread never got going - it just went directly into a Katrina thread, and then subsequentially into a "who be me" thread, but I digress. Because of the steadfast (gasp, can I use that word to describe Helen or mingotree?) belief from Sherlock Holmes and Watson that I am LindaK and/or yellowstone, I contributed in derailing this thread further.
So I do not share Linda's opinion as to fenix's motives here. That said, I have not discussed the hurricane aftermath in this thread anymore than Linda has and I certainly do not think that means I am not sympthatetic to what is happening in the south. But I certainly can not argue with the fact that assigning motives to people makes for a spirited discussion.

RedStateRising, most of the Republicans here have left because after they see their thoughts in print, they're too ashamed to stay much longer. That's why they have to change their I.D.'s all the time.
Also, Linda tries to tell us about how great things are in Iraq, yet when any of us ask for proof (pictures), she gets mad at us and says words are enough. If any of us post things without proof, she gets mad at us as well. What's a person to do?
P.S. Linda, Fenix didn't deserve what you said to her. What's the matter with you today?

What's the matter with linda EVERY day. That's the question. It certainly doesn't make sense that she should find fault with Fenix who has been so considerate, understanding and patient. It's time for linda to either modify her tactics or go away. That's my opinion.

Helen - It's not only your opinion. A lot of us feel the same way. And, heck, if I don't throw debris at Ken he'd never get anything done!

I know one damn thing, that seller better not be late with my package and blame it on the hurricane. She lives in Minn. LOL
I pity the sellers and buyers in this mess. And what a mess it will be. Seller will need to return the money, maybe badly needed now, for lost merchandise and the buyer will be out something that they may have wanted badly.
edited to add: Oh and yes Red, that is what I was saying, Fenix probably would not of hi-jacked this thread if certain other parties had started it and in a different light.
She and Linda have had a running feud for a few days now.

Amazing photos, Helen...... especially #10. Some of the new video on CNN shows the extent of destruction and I'm stunned.
Kraft, you mentioned the other day how lucky we really are (on the Bird Seed thread)...... this is another reminder. I can't even begin to imagine the trauma that people there are feeling. They just showed some pics of a prison where the inmates have been evacuated and are all sitting on a road with guards with guns.

Great photos, Helen! Those people have lost everything! I just can't imagine it. Here I am worrying about our basement flooding. It's been raining here since this morning with no end in sight. Fortunately, we don't have the wind.

Cheryl - why does your basement keep flooding? Is the concrete not sealed or do you have windows that allow it in?

By John J. Lumpkin Associated Press Writer
Published: Aug 30, 2005
NAVAL AMPHIBIOUS BASE, Calif. (AP) -
The trainees had been awake for days, but they could still muster a "Hoo-yah, Secretary Rumsfeld!" as the visiting defense chief looked them over.
They were 60 "buds" - hopefuls to join the elite ranks of the Navy SEAL teams. Dozens had already given up, ringing a bell and calling it quits. For them, Tuesday was the middle of "hell week" - where they are kept awake, training, for 5 1/2 days. The lucky ones may get a cumulative four hours of sleep during that time.
As the men stood before Donald H. Rumsfeld in teams of six, their trainers yelled for them to alternately lift and lower a weighty raft. Something beyond fatigue showed on many of their faces - some buds feel asleep every few seconds, even while standing at attention.
Others swayed as they stood, their red eyes focusing on nothing.
These "buds" - an acronym for "Basic Underwater Demolitions-SEALs" - are a mix of officers and enlisted troops in their mid- to late 20s.
They are drawn from the ranks of the Navy and must pass rigorous physical tests to qualify for training. Only 30 percent of an average class of trainees finish the six-month training regimen to become SEAL team members.
Rumsfeld, who joined President Bush in San Diego Tuesday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the U.S. victory over Japan in World War II, also met with active SEALs at their base. "They're amazing folks," he said. He pinned bronze stars on several SEALs, thanking them for heroism in Iraq.
Reporters were asked not to reveal their names or photograph their faces.
One SEAL helped protect Iraqi oil wells during the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. Others played a key role in capturing high-level insurgents, according to officers who described their actions.
Rumsfeld said he personally approved some of their missions.
"You are the quiet professionals doing extraordinary things, often in anonymity," he said. "But even though most Americans know little about your remarkable exploits, they do take comfort in knowing you are in the fight."
Despite their maritime origins, SEALs - an acronym for Sea, Air and Land - have been on the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Still, it has been a rough period for the elite SEAL units. Like other special operations units, while their successes go unheralded, their failures are often well-known.
On June 28, eight Navy SEALs, along with eight members of the Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, were killed in Afghanistan when a rocket-propelled grenade hit their MH-47 Chinook. Also killed were three SEAL commandos they were trying to rescue on the ground. A fourth escaped.
Some SEALs have also been accused of taking part in the abuse of prisoners.

Kiara, I saw a man and his young child wandering the streets (CNN) and he said he had no place to go. He said he was holding onto his wife but had to let go when the water got above their roof. It's so sad.

Red - Well, we just see fenix's actions totally differently then.
Within 4 minutes of me posting this thread....she was intentionally derailing it. And you can go back to page 1 to read the reason SHE used....not me guessing why she did....for doing so.
Feeling the way you do have threads going off topic, I have no expectations this post will be changing your mind. But to me, you're totally ignoring HER reasons for doing so.
And I guess I am left to wonder why you'd think that 4 minutes after I start a new thread, she'd feel the need to do this, when she could have just as easily ignored my thread and started one of her own.
IMO, it's childish gameplaying. If it's seen differently to you that's your conclusion....but it definiately is different from how things actually 'went down'.

Now, according to CNN the evacuation of the entire city of New Orleans is under consideration. U.S. and state officials say it may be the nation's worst natural disaster.

I saw the same story about the man losing his wife, Kraft. He still has his two grandkids so he will have to try to recover for them but it will be difficult.
Lindak, grow up and quit pouting........ you're starting to look like a big whiney baby. Okay, we all realize that you care more about the good news in Iraq today than you do about the devastation in your own country. You've made your point more than once already. Some of us have different loyalties than you today so .... uhhhh....... uhhhh...... 'get over it'.

You caught me Linda - I had been up all morning waiting to post about the hurricane damage but holding on, waiting patiently, positive that someone would come along and start a thread that I could derail. It took hours of refresh after refresh and... nothing.,...then I take a break to ... oh what did I do... fixed some breakfast, yes - that's what I did, I fixed breakfast and when I returned, there it was... like a gift from the chatboard gods... something that I could derail and still less than 5 minutes old.
History tells us that I do this all the time. I am afterall well known for trying to cover up positive things so why should this be a suprise. And I did it! In my utter brilliance and as a show of the world class level of cunning and deviousness I possess I was able to do it with 9 simple words. You gotta hand it me - I am amazing. To coverup so many accomplishments and to further the cause of main stream media, liberal left wingers and the entire anti war movement combined while using less than 10 words. Damn I am good.
Well... that or you are delusional Linda and have set up permanent residence in the land of conspiracy theories.
You make the choice.

Fenix - Our house is 100+ years old and in need of water proofing. We do have a couple of windows in need of replacing and some water comes in off the driveway. Also, the drain in the basement backs up when the water sewers outside cannot handle any more water. That's actually the biggest problem. There's not much we can do about that. Basement flooding in this area is actually common. Since I'm only about a mile and 1/2 from Lake Erie, you don't have to dig down too far to find water anyway. When I lived in Mentor, OH, we couldn't even have basements because of the water in the ground. OTOH, I can grow one great garden without too much effort!
Ken's now calling New Orleans, New Venice. What a horrible shame. What a mess they're going to have once the water recedes.

No fenix - imo, you did it deliberately.....no reason not to have just ignored mine and started one of your own...since you found it so 'out-of-sinc' with what YOU wanted to discuss.
But the fact remains you didn't. There's a motive behind that action....and you can deny it 'til you grow up.
And no, you don't derail threads all the time....and I've never seen you do like you did to this one either, intentionally - right off the bat.
Your choice not to just ignore mine and start one of your own. And any and ALL adults know that. But lately the liberals are all acting like grade school children....now you're just joining in with them. sad to watch......

OK - so given that Linda - why do you think that I lied when I gave my original reason and are so all founded convinced that I did it this time for the ridiculous set of motives that you listed?
What is it in my history here for three years that leads you to believe that your accusations have basis in any reality.
Why not just accept that sometimes things take o a life of their own. The conspiracy theories are getting a little thick.

Not going to 'play' the game that way fenix.
Imo, it's YOU that owes me an answer/explanation as to why you'd not just ignore my thread and start one of your own. Like most grow-ups would if they weren't interested in that topic. But when they also wanted to start a different discussion.
You've already stated on page one, your second post I believe, WHY you did this. And I don't find that excuse a reasonable one, nor a mature one when people here are supposed to be grow-ups. It was uncalled for, un-necessary and totally childish on your part.
I'm done. I don't expect you and the other children here to see it in a grown-up manner. You've already proven that it's not.
There was no excuse for doing what you did, intentionally.

Posts go astray all the time. It's not like this is something unusual or shocking. Linda, I'm sorry, but it sounds like you're feeling left out. Stomping your feet in a tantrum because people aren't discussing what you wanted to discuss in this thread. There are AMERICANS who's lives are devastated right now. Excuse all of us for caring more about them than about Iraq. All of you should be ashamed. Why do you feel it's all fenix's fault?
If things are really going well in Iraq, that's good news because the sooner things get turned around, the sooner we're the he** out of there. However, pictures of it would be nice to see. Words are just that - words. In the words of Rod Stewart, "Every picture tells a story. Don't it?"

Linda, honey, I'm not the one who needs to grow up. Tell you what, I suggest we all just pass by each and every thread you post. That way we'll be sure not to get your dander up. You can talk, talk, talk to your hearts content and no one will be there to tell you you're wrong. You act as if Fenix was the only one talking about the hurricane. Again, shame on you Fenix for caring about more about the US than Iraq and derailing Linda's thread. And, shame on the rest of us for caring as well.
Now, if you don't mind, I'm going back to my sandbox to play with the rest of my friends. Better to have friends in a sandbox than to not have any at all.

Linda, how dare you not follow the world and be concerned about new orleans and mississippi this morning?
Why didnt you post a thread about that? I am ashamed of you! Or, let me put it this way, like the snickering snievling paul lynde here: "Dontcha got any good news about mississippi or new orleans?" heh heh heh..
It's always folladaleader here. Common parroting of what the mass media is putting out. I understand what you mean. Another thread could have been started if everyone was so eager to discuss this. But they follow, they dont lead.
And they are the free thinkers?? !LOL! I dont think so.
