I'll agree with research that radh wrote. I think it applies to todays chat or message boards anywhere on the internet.
But even just lurking, and not posting there is much to learn.

There once was a group of onliners
Whom others thought were just whiners
They did open their doors
To all the other bores
Who mostly just posted one liners

Isnt it funny that the Internet boards are the only place that people with no life sitting in front of a CRT 24/7 gain status??
It simply amazes and stuns me........
The good news is-- you know where they are at all times.

It's almost as amazing as all the "Cybil" types who manifest themselves in dozens of different personalities.
Doesn't it get confusing keeping track of which persona said what?
Of course, no offense is intended for anyone who may actually have Multiple Personality Disorder, or know someone who does.

Roses are red, violets are blue, i'm schizophrenic and so am I, i.e., multiple personality disorder?
I remember when I first started posting at AW and I was unfairly thwarted by some members at AW about a hypothetical question of ethics and at first I was put off by it and thought i'd never post here again, but then I realized that that way of thinking was wrong. I dont think I am part of the in crowd and I know I am clueless but you just have to roll up your sleeves and get in there and keep battling. So what if the so called in crowd dont reply to your posts, who cares, i'm here to talk to anyone that wants to talk and afterall isnt that what we are all here for.

Having been here for a little over a year (mostly lurking, but posting every now and then), I'd have to say that these boards hold a wealth of knowledge, presented for all to see by a large group of good people. Of course, it's always the 4% minority that seems to want to raise hell. As Dave pointed out, a year ago these boards were really bad...but now...hey, lose the thin skin and learn!
By the way, who is this stantman? Why does he think he can butt in on our party?

I’m sensing some divisiveness in this thread. With the upcoming holiday season looming I can see no reason to piss off the Santaman (I'm sure he is just spelling it wrong), so I think we should all form a big circle, hold hands and join together in this healing communal anthem:
(“Hit it maestro: ah-one-a, a-two-a, a-three-a, a-four-a...”)
I'm in with the in crowd, I go where the in crowd goes
I'm in with the in crowd and I know what the in crowd knows
Anytime of the year, don't you hear? Dressing fine, making time
We breeze up and down the street, we get respect from the people we meet
They make way day or night, they know the in crowd is out of sight
I'm in with the in crowd, I know every latest dance
When you're in with the in crowd, it's so easy to find romance
Any time of the year, don't you hear? If it's square, we ain't there
We make every minute count, our share is always the biggest come out
Other guys imitate us, but the original is still the greatest, in crowd!
Any time of the year, don't you hear?
Spendin' cash, talkin' trash
I'll show you a real good time, come on with me, leave your troubles behind
I don't care where you've been, you ain't been nowhere ‘til you've been IN
WIth the in crowd, with the in crowd, in crowd, Yeah!

I am fairly new to these boards myself and I can truthfully say that I have never felt like an outsider. Even those posters who I tend to disagree with on a semi-regular basis have made me feel welcome. It all boils down to mutial respect. You can disagree with someone's opinion and still be civil and learn something in the process.

In? Out? In? Out?
I feel like I'm talking to the dog, who can't make up her mind whether or not she wants to go outside...
Stantman: You're statements would probably have more merit if they hadn't been based on several false assumptions. I'd point them out to you but I'm busy deciding if I'm in or out today.

Okay, I'll add my observation - as if anyone cares:
First, I know I'm not one of the "in crowd" (darn) because I lurk/read a lot more than I contribute. For those of you who are now going to check out how long I've been a member and how many times I've posted, I've read the threads for months prior to joining.
I must say, I've learned a lot from all of you. As a matter of fact I'm about to take the plunge and start selling on eBay. Although, I am only going to be a recreational seller getting rid of some of the excess collectibles and antiques I've accumulated over the years.
I think this board is a valuable asset to buyers and sellers alike. Granted, there are those who contribute more than others. I also thought many of you were creeps when I first started reading the threads. But I have now come to like each of you for what you are - you. Some have bad days and take it out of others. Some pick on others, no matter what their opinion, but then turn around and make a nice post/gesture that puts you back in good graces with me.
I don't know, I guess you could compare it to any walk of life, whether it be a playground, neighborhood, work environment or organization, some are leaders, some followers; some are talkers, some are listeners; some are movers and shakers and some just life slip by.
All in all, I think all of you are a great bunch of people!

OK, there are people here who post more than others. Also there are those that have been here longer than others, and post brilliant threads I could never dream up myself...
But I can honestly say that I've never noticed an 'In Crowd'. Everyone seems to be on a pretty even keel.

As long as we're waxing cool and lyrical, corrdog:
I'm hip
I'm no square
I'm alert I'm awake I'm aware
I am always on the scene
Makin the rounds
Diggin' the sounds
I buy Playboy magazine cause I'm hip
Like dig
I'm in step
When it was hip to be "hep" I was "hep"
I don't blow but I'm a fan
Look at me swing
Ring a ding ding
I even call my girlfriend "Man"
'cause I'm hip
And every Saturday night
With my suit buttoned tight and my suedes on
I'm gettin my kicks
digging arty French flicks with my shades on
'cause I'm too much
I'm a gas
I am anything but a little class
When I hang around the bend
Poppin my thumbs
Diggin' the drums
Squares don't seem to understand
Why I flip
And I hip
Like I'm hip
I'm hip
I'm alive
I enjoy any joint where there's jive
I'm on top of every trend
Look at me go
Vo De Oh Do
Sammy Davis knows my friend
I'm so hip
I'm hip
But not weird
Like you notice I don't wear a beard
Beards were in, but now they're out
They had their day, now they're passé
Just ask me if you're in doubt
'cause I'm hip
Oh I'm hip
Now I'm deep into Zen
Meditation and Macrobiotics
And as soon as I can
I intend to get into narcotics
'cause I'm cool
as a cuke
I'm a cat I'm a card I'm kook
I get so much out of life
Really I do
Scooby-doo-doo
One more time play Mack The Knife
Let 'er rip
I may flip
but I'm hip
Oh, tell the world I'm hip
yeeeeeeesssssss
don't you know that I do
well now
dig on me
well can't you see that I'm hip
Oh yes I'm hip
Better show this to Quincy
Oh yes
You better believe
I'm hip
I'm hip
I'm hip
I'm, I'm hip
