10) "I have not heard a report of thousands of people in the convention center who don't have food and water." –Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, on NPR's "All Things Considered," Sept. 1, 2005
9) "We just learned of the convention center – we being the federal government – today." –FEMA Director Michael Brown, to ABC's Ted Koppel, Sept. 1, 2005, to which Koppel responded " Don't you guys watch television? Don't you guys listen to the radio? Our reporters have been reporting on it for more than just today."
8) "...those who are stranded, who chose not to evacuate, who chose not to leave the city..." –FEMA Director Michael Brown, on New Orleans residents who could not evacuate because they were too poor and lacked the means to leave, CNN interview, Sept. 1, 2005
7) "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." –President Bush, to FEMA director Michael Brown, while touring Hurricane-ravaged Mississippi, Sept. 2, 2005
6) "Last night, we showed you the full force of a superpower government going to the rescue." –MSNBC's Chris Matthews, Sept. 1 2005
5) "You simply get chills every time you see these poor individuals...many of these people, almost all of them that we see are so poor and they are so black, and this is going to raise lots of questions for people who are watching this story unfold." --CNN's Wolf Blitzer, on New Orleans' hurricane refugees, Sept. 1, 2005
4) "It makes no sense to spend billions of dollars to rebuild a city that's seven feet under sea level....It looks like a lot of that place could be bulldozed." –House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), Aug. 31, 2005
3) "We've got a lot of rebuilding to do ... The good news is — and it's hard for some to see it now — that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast, like it was before. Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house — he's lost his entire house — there's going to be a fantastic house. And I'm looking forward to sitting on the porch." (Laughter) —President Bush, touring hurricane damage, Mobile, Ala., Sept. 2, 2005
2) "Thank President Clinton and former President Bush for their strong statements of support and comfort today. I thank all the leaders that are coming to Louisiana, and Mississippi and Alabama to our help and rescue. We are grateful for the military assets that are being brought to bear. I want to thank Senator Frist and Senator Reid for their extraordinary efforts. Anderson, tonight, I don't know if you've heard – maybe you all have announced it -- but Congress is going to an unprecedented session to pass a $10 billion supplemental bill tonight to keep FEMA and the Red Cross up and operating." –Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), to CNN's Anderson Cooper, Aug. 31, 2005, to which Cooper responded:
"I haven't heard that, because, for the last four days, I've been seeing dead bodies in the streets here in Mississippi. And to listen to politicians thanking each other and complimenting each other, you know, I got to tell you, there are a lot of people here who are very upset, and very angry, and very frustrated. And when they hear politicians slap – you know, thanking one another, it just, you know, it kind of cuts them the wrong way right now, because literally there was a body on the streets of this town yesterday being eaten by rats because this woman had been laying in the street for 48 hours. And there's not enough facilities to take her up. Do you get the anger that is out here?"
1) "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." –President Bush, on "Good Morning America," Sept. 1, 2005, six days after repeated warnings from experts about the scope of damage expected from Hurricane Katrina

Every so often you hear a reporter ask a question so stupid that you have to wonder who they have dirt on that someone would willingly put them on the air. Today it is some woman from FOX (I'm telling you, they have amassed an impressive array of stupid women - It's actually kind of embarrassing).
Speaking to an LA official...."What happened to your prison population and do you think they are the ones responsible for the violence in the city."

redstaterising.... is there a reason why you didn't put my full quote or is it easier to just cherry pick a piece of it to try to make yourself look important?
This is an excellent time to point fingers and put blame where it belongs....... right at the top of all the leadership that is responsible for response time If bureaucracy is so bloated that common sense is entirely lost, there is no hope.
fenix, what kind of comments has Ann Coulter made so far?
BTW, yesterday was the first time I've ever seen Condi give a speech without that annoying smile on her face.

While I'm fully aware that many didn't have other places to go to....they ALL were warned to get out. Those that stayed behind chose to. All this wouldn't have happened to me, because no matter how poor I was, I would have left when the warnings were issued.
linda_k:
I was just saying that if, as was done, a warning was issued to 'get out' and then an order for them to get out...and they still didn't choose to leave? I will never understand that type of reasoning. To me it's like they gambled and took a HUGE chance it wouldn't happen to them. But those who remained....lost that bet.
posted on September 3, 2005 10:15:11 AM new
My statements arent stupid ones , kiara. They speak to the commen sense you don't expect from those who were warned several times to leave the area, who were ORDERED leave...and didn't.
But I don't find it surprising you wouldn't HOLD THEM to ANY personal responsibility.....nope....it's always the governments fault - and yet you complain all the time when I say all you do is blame my government for everything - NOT pro-America, as you keept claiming.
THEY made the decisions to stay....the government warned them to leave. Let's see, Kiara wants to blame everything on anyone other than those who made the decision to stay.....while Linda thinks the bleeding heart liberals need to hold the victims to a certain degree of responsibility for CHOOSING not to leave when told do.
There's going to be plenty of blame passed around, but at what point to you expect people to 'take care of themselves/to be prepared for emergencies for a couple of days'. Even on the west coast people have been warned for years that in case of a high level earthquake....the citizens had better be prepared to take care of themselves and their loved ones for a period of 3 days to a week.
Now, those who REFUSE to do so, are stupid in imo opinion. They just choose to live in denial....as did those who have lived in these areas, knowing full well, what the risk of both hurricanes and levees breaking would mean. Not like this is the first time it's happened.....

Once again the neocons in here have no defense for the failures of their god and leader , George Bush, so they resort to insults.
Well, guys , you'll be hard pressed to find even Republican politicians who are siding with bushy on this one....even Newt had a few harsh words.
LindaKKk you prove over and over again what a flimsy excuse for a mind you have by insisting the poor could have gotten out if they wanted to.
But , please, don't ever listen to the explanations or reasons because you may learn something in that tight nasty tiny coccoon you live in about the truth.
I'm sure you're so happy that so many are suffering, dying, being raped, the elderly in wheel chairs are dying for lack of medical aid.
I bet you're just doing the happy dance over this.

Many had no cars, no money and some were elderly or ill. How could they just go? Where would they have gone to even if they were healthy enough to walk? Where would they have found food or shelter or a bathroom? How far could they walk carrying their babies and little children plus any necessities?
lindak, I know you say that you would have left so please explain how you would have done it if you were too ill to walk, or if you had no money or credit cards and no place to go to or if you had an infant and several small children.
And don't tell me you would never be like that, try to answer as if you were one who lived there all your life and were poor or ill...... we already know you're elderly. Trust me, they didn't all have vehicles or Walmart scooters to motor out on.

cf/mg/LB - You once again point out to all here just how very SICK you are.

And kiara....we need to be realistic here. Should another crisis hit American....any major crisis, the FACTS are we're going to have to be able to take care of ourselves....no matter the circumstance at the time. That's why our government has REPEATEDLY asked citizen to be prepared....for all these possibilites.
I suppose you'd like to try and tell us you'd just sit there and wait until the government could come save you. Well, I sure wouldn't.
And while you choose to point out ONLY those who may not have had family around them to help them get out......I think most would conceed THEY were in a small minority....not the majority of health looking people we've see on all the news media. Most were quite capable of walking....getting out. Some even had enough brains to take buses and transport as many as they could to safely.
They didn't all sit around picking their noses, waiting for 'Big Brother' to come save them.
That's where I feel bleeding heart liberals like yourself.....belieive people don't have the capability to THINK for themselves....too make decisions for themselves....no, they must wait for big brother, nanny government tell them what they need to do to survive.
Waiting for the government, or anyone else to 'come save' you is stupid....period. Help yourself...improve your own situation and that of any others you can.....like the guy who had a couple of brain cells and got a school bus to take himself and others out.

Good try, Kiara , but you're wasting your time trying to get LindaKKK to see any view but her own...Remember she is brain and soul dead. She hasn't had a new thought or idea for 40 years. She is incapable of sympathy, empathy, christian spirit, logic, reason, and has no concept of reality...in other words..a neocon.
However, Bush dropped the ball on this one, too, and the people of the US and the world can see that clearly...even some Republicans. Her false idol that she worships above God has feet of clay(well, mud now).
So LindaKKK insult away It's nothing compared to the suffering of the people in the south that the "world's greatest country" failed.
Hey LindaKKK ain't it funny ...CASTRO wants to help us!!
Along with all the other countries you love to hate

So I take it you agree with the rest of my post
Now, big mouth, where did I show support of communist leaders?
And, since you support a dictator, why are you pointing your finger at someone else???Very odd.

Some even had enough brains?? What a condescending attitude you have, lindak.
Were buses offered for free transportation and if so, where did they plan to take them?
And no, I would never count on any government to take care of me. As far as surviving, I'm way ahead of you. While I'd be taking care of things, you'd still be sitting there touting your fearless leader, "My Guy", and blubbbering about something I said a year ago. You'd be the victim, not me.

Kiara, once again you prove your guessing games are totally useless.
Once again, you point out how your personal comprehension skills are severly lacking. I stated what I would have done....you're just ignoring that and replacing MY OWN statement with another LIE from your little twisted brain.
I have always been prepared for the event of emergencies and expect others, who are capable of doing so, to do the same. When warnings ARE issued, repeatedly that a crisis is ahead, I don't bury my head and pretend it won't affect me or mine.
They didn't come up with the statement 'the survival of the fittest' for no reason. Some don't have the brains or reasoning ability to take care of themselves without someone telling them what they should do.

In New Orleans its very clear we are all starting to see the results of the class war Bush and the republican controlled houses are waging against the American people.
UNDER BUSH AND THE REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED HOUSES CLASS WAR. THE RICH ARE GETTING RICHER AND THE POOR ARE GETTING POORER.
Its UNPRECEDENTED that for 4 years straight under Bush the number of AMERICANS IN POVERTY HAS RISEN.
Yes kiara, I am 100% sure Trent Lott's new house will be a house that Bush will "PROUD" to visit and set on his front porch. Maybe (good old boy) Bush might even bring his chain saw along for a photo opp. Bush could say again and again "WE ARE WORKING HARD" and "WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS", I have ordered FEMA to show all America that Trent Lott has a "BIGGER AND BETTER HOUSE THAN EVER".

Hey peepa maybe you could sell Trent Lott some antiques to help him furnish his new house. It would be a perfect opportunity for you to raise your own standard of living.

Hey Linda_K, I see you have gone NUTS again because your own words exposed your TWISTED SICK MIND SET.
BTW, I guess people could start calling you MINI SCREAMER you put 20 words in CAPS in just this post along.
I ALSO SEE YOU DECIDED TO COPY ME ABOUT USING THE WORD "TWISTED". I have used the word "TWISTED" describing your LIES,TWISTED WORDS and COLD HEARTED MINDSET for a very long time. Now time and again your own words PROVE ME RIGHT.
I am sorry if the man you voted for has put you and millions of others in such a defenses mold. But you voted for Bush, me and millions of others didn't make that mistake.
So post on MINI SCREAMER but your TWISTED MINDSET is in the MINORITY NOW.

C'mon peepa! Even P. Diddy does better than you. He is donating one million dollars from his clothing line for the relief. And when a reporter asked him if he was a pop mongol, and he asked her if she meant to say, mogul?
Now where's all the teachers with the spelling lessons?

I don't see how you've answered at all, lindak. I asked what you would do if you were in their position and had no money, no credit cards, were ill or had an infant to take care of. You side-stepped that to say you'd take care of yourself. How?
Better your education? Uhhh ....... sorry but the water is rising and there's no time for schooling at the moment. What if you're a lady who has got a sick husband and you've been by his side 50 years and you love him but all your money is gone to buy drugs for him. So you just start walking and leave him behind to take care of himself because he's too heavy to carry? So you're going to steal a school bus? Whoops! The door is locked. Do you know how to jimmy it open? If so, whoops! No keys!! How many old ladies know how to hot-wire a bus and drive it off down a highway? Get my point?
As for many of the others, where were they supposed to go? They went where they were told to go and had no food or water, no one to take care of their medical needs because the government was clueless. And they remained clueless for DAYS.

kiara - There really is no point in me discussing this with you....your severe comprehension problem is more than I wish to be bothered trying to explain things to.
You take what is said....twist it all around....and then expected I'd care to continue conversing with you? LOL LOL LOL No thanks.
You haven't 'gotten' what I've already said......no point in pushing your mind any further.

I understand exactly what you said, lindak... starting with the statements you made the other day and the comments you've always made here about those less fortunate.
I believe you are very unaware of how the poor live and can only view things from your own perspective in the safety of your own protected environment and that you will continue to blame them, showing no compassion whatsoever.

kiara asks:
is there a reason why you didn't put my full quote or is it easier to just cherry pick a piece of it to try to make yourself look important?
Oh I dunno kiara, I wouldn't have guessed that would be a problem with you since you did the exact same thing. Or are the quotes you posted the entirety of what each person had to say.
By the way, your full quote doesn't help it look less stupid.
