I think they are deliberately slowing down,as they pay postage both ways, the faster turnaround make postage cost go up.
As you can see,NETFLIX is turning a profit now.

I just finished the remake of The Longest Yard. I liked it as well as the original, and I can't stand football...Also Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy...skip that one...

The Netflix Hustle:
If I drop in my finished movies into the PO box Sunday night or Monday morning, they will show them as arriving Tuesday morning, and send out my replacements on Tuesday Afternoon. I wll then receive those on Wednesday, watch them as quickly as possible, and drop them in the box Thursday morning, they get them and replace them on Friday, abd I receive them on Saturday. I then watch these on Saturday night or Sunday and repeat. Two full rounds per week!
In reality it rarely works that way, since I don't have time to watch a movie every night, but if you play your cards right you could have a new DVD every day (except Sunday and holidays).
ASSUMING you have a distribution center close to you, Netflix is a great deal!
I watch a lot of TV shows on DVD. Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Deadwood, Buck Rogers, are just a few of my recent series to catch up on.
I have the original Kolchak the Night Stalker coming on my next round. A four DVD set that I just cannot wait to watch. I loved that show as a kid!!!

I just got my copy of the Kolchak series today! I can hardly wait to watch it, but will have to wait until the weekend, as I am going to two plays this week, one tonight and another tomorrow evening. I also loved this series, even though it only lasted one season. The new version of it sucks majorly.

Replay, I must not be near a distribution center.. since most of our area is destroyed along with NO... who knows where mine will be shipped from.. they had better show up tomorrow.. 6 days since I placed my order is a tad to long to wait..imo..

Keep in mind for future use: they do NOT work on Saturday. Try to time things so they mail your stuff out on Friday so the Post Office can deliver on Saturday. But if you mail things back on Friday, nothing's gonna happen until Monday at best (and this past Monday was a holiday).
Between you being a new member, the Monday holiday, and the hurricane, you're probably not going to have a great first impression. But give them a full month or two and see how things go after the hurricane situation clears up.

can always switch to blockbuster,I believe it is cheaper and you get coupon to rent 2 free from the store.
It all depends on who has a shipping center in your area.

NetFlix has a distribution center less than 20 miles from me, and we almost always receive movies one day after they're shipped. That means that I can mail a movie back on Monday, they get it Tuesday, mail me another one on Tuesday, and I get it Wednesday.
When possible, I return two movies in the same envelope to help save them a little on the postage. They're a great company, so I don't mind helping them out a little.

Honestly I think you would probably confuse Netflix sending 2 back in one envelope?
Anyway I JUST now got back from seeing Serenity. It was ok. And since I wasn't a fan (I just didn't watch it) of Firefly, I guess some things are lost? But it was ok.
Now Netflix for me is quick. As soon as I get one bur.. ah, watched send it back and have another within the next 2 days. I can return on Mon. and the next ones are in the mailbox Wed.
Course my distribution center is in Tacoma, and I'm in Seattle.

That I can tell....no one has recommended any mushy romantic movies. I'm a romantic at heart....and love movies along the line of 'When A Man Loves A Woman' and that old Marsha Mason movie she was in with James Caan where he had lost his wife and Marsha was struggling to enter his life...loved him...but he was still holding on to his dead wife. [Just looked it up....Chapter Two was it's title.]
Come on, someone here must enjoy love stories...and can recommend one or two to me. I don't care how old they are.

Okay, Linda, here are a few love stories I can think of off-hand you might enjoy if you havent already seen them.
"Return to Me" - David Duchovny/Minnie Driver
"Amelie" - French, Subtitles, but very cute movie.
As Good as it Gets" - Jack Nickelson, Helen Hunt
These are old and I'm sure there's more I could recommend, but I cant think of them right now.

Linda, have you seen The Notebook yet. I think that is what Caroline started this thread with.
It is a really tear jerker romantic movie.

Thanks dbl and NTS....I appreciate you mentioning those. I thought maybe the one Caroline had mentioned might be a good one...I'll rent that one for sure.
If you think of anymore, dbl...please list them for me. I love nothing more than to get 5-6 DVD's [or VHSs if necessary] and spend a whole weekend in bed just watching love stories. Crying...laughing...being happy when in the end everything works out in fairytale fashsion.
I did see the one with Jack Nicholson....reminds me of a man I'm getting to know.

Thanks, chimpchamp.....I think I've seen every movie where Marsha Mason and James Caan have worked together. I loved both of them as actors/actresses..and together they made the greatest team . The Goodbye girl was excellent, imo. And I also enjoyed Cinderella Liberty very much too. Ohhhh those old love stories.

Boy, this is bad, I go thru my DVDs and they are mostly sci fi and horror! that is the kind of movies I like, sci fi the most though
I have Cold Mountain, The Notebook, and Titanic (Titanic is a love story, even though I can't stand DiCapprio or whatever his name is )
posted on October 14, 2005 10:39:45 AM
Near how was cold mountain?? They said it was long. I guess that is why I never got around to seeing it although I had wanted to.

Just saw "Corpse Bride," and I have to agree with the other poster who said it was good, but not on the same level as "Nightmare Before Christmas."
and
The original "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" was every bit as good as I remembered. That show REALLY held up well. With the exception of the old typewriter instead of a modern computer and that silly hat, it's nearly timeless.
and
a Documentary, "Unlocking The Mystery Of Life - Life's Origins, Evolution And Intelligent Design" Which I thought was really good. Explains the whole argument about the "Intelligent Design" debate. It's not so much about religion as it is the limitations on Darwin and Evolution. Anyone curious about this argument should see this one. Even if you aren't interested in the philosophical aspects, the computer graphics about DNA and how cells work were fascinating. I got this one from Bittorrent, I have no idea if it's available on DVD or not.
[update]- It IS available on DVD, but not through Netflix.
