Re: Doom - It's based on a video game - what did you expect?
Excellent movie out on DVD that was actually made for HBO - Something the Lord Made. It's about the two doctors that pioneered the work in repairing heart defects in "blue babies". It's not just a medical movie, also deals with the race issues encountered by one member of the team.

Doom was a fun game to play, then there was DoomII and then came the Simpsons Doom, that was also fun to play.

On DOOM
Guess I expected too much, like the movie to actually be like the game.
It was Resident Evil rehashed.

I watched "Repo man" Friday night. Great film. I'd never got to see it all the way through. May have seen it when it first came out but was probably stoned.
BTW whatever happened to the almighty borillar? I thought he may have been over come with self righteousness and was taken away by a superior race to live as a planet, far, far away. (as a seer)

Went to see "Good Night, And Good Luck" yesterday--excellent movie. David Strathairn is perfect as Edward R. Murrow.
I also bought several DVDs this week: "The Adventures of Superman" season one (a childhood favorite), the 1943 "Batman" serial, and the "Dark Shadows" revival series from the 90s.
TCM has been showing a lot of fun films so, all in all, it has been a great week movie-wise.

I saw "Repo Man" for the first time just last week... We must read the same Netflix pages
I honestly thought it was stupid. Why is that movie so highly regarded? It's just plain DUMB!

I like anything by the Coen brothers:
Raising Arizona
Fargo
Lady Killers
O Brother, Were Art Thou
The Big Lebowski
The Man Who Wasn't There
The Hudsucker Proxy
Their dark humor, wit and satire strike something within me.
To redeem myself so everyone won't think I'm some kind of nut. Some of my favorites are:
Harvey with Jimmy Stewart
Make Way for Sargents with Andy Griffith
Anything with Cary Grant
I Remember Mama with Irene Dunn
National Treasure with Nicholas Cage
Monsters, Inc.
Shrek and Shrek 2
The Jungle Book- Disney Version
Toy Story
Second Hand Lions - Robert Duval and Michael Caine
The Point - narrated by Ringo Starr
The Neverending Story - Peter Falk
The Princess Bride
National Tresure reminded me somewhat of The Da Vinci Code. I don't think the movie, even with Tom Hanks playing the lead, is going to be anywhere near as good as the book.

classic, Borrilla (and I am not sure that is spelled right) was left wing poster, who would post long rants But he was ok.
But I believe it was him, that would have liked to see a revolution against the Bush Administration.
Disclaimer: the above posted is going only on my very poor memory, and it could be wrong
Expect for the left wing liberal part

Classic, Helen probably has that one archived and cataloged under the file name; Yellowstone The Weasel. I also have it archived and cataloged as; The Truth About Crowfart. I may even have a few threads archived that Borillar posted in but i am sure that my archives are nowhere near as complete as hers are.
You might find it interesting that archiving of threads was something that Helen learned from someone else and she copycatted this tactic to use as a tool against others at a later time.

I haven't read through the whole thread but just to answer the thread question - I rented and watched "Batman Begins' last night. First, I will say that I'm not a huge Batman movie fan. I liked the first one but thought all the others were awful. That said, I had high expectations for this one because critics I generally agree with loved it. After watching it, I have to admit that I was blown away. By far the best of the Batman movies but not just a great Batman movie - it was a terrific movie, period. Christian Bale so nails Batman that its as if he was born to play the role. Add terrific performances from Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman (who's always good), Gary Oldman (who's also always good) and Michael Caine, coupled with the outstanding direction of Christopher Nolan (Memento, anyone?) and its no wonder I would rank this film in the top five I've seen in the last few years. Its a rare thing that I watch a movie again, immediately after first viewing it, but thats what I did last night. Terrific film.

Thanks, RedState, I'll give it a try. I must admit that I avoided it when it was released due to the last few Batman films being duds IMO. Your review makes it sound worth watching.
Speaking of Batman, last week I purchased the 1943 Batman serial and plan on watching it sometime this week if I can find the time. A couple of months back I got the 1949 Batman & Robin serial. Lots of fun!
Now, if they'd just bring out the Superman serial that starred Kirk Allyn...

Today I discovered that the British National Film Archives site has put up several little films that were produced by the British government between 1945 and 1951. These were public information films that covered everything from how tax dollars were spent to how to blow your nose.
The make interesting and fun watching:
