After waiting for four days, just when I tried to list some new items, eBay crashes again. I am really, really getting tired of this. The excuse for not extending auctions last night shows their disregard for their sellers, who provide them with the cash to keep this ship afloat. I'd say at this rate they'll be history in a year. They will become a discount outlet for Powersellers flogging overstocked merchandise from China. I had an auction end today which would have sold for twice my reserve this summer. The bids stopped coming in several hours before the close and the reserve was not met when it did close, in the middle of the outage. Have another one ending tonight. Dead in the water. I find it interesting that you can not access your closed auctions to see how bad they ended and request a refund. I think I'll go over and post a gripe on eBay's YAHOO message board. Maybe go rake leaves, the sun is peeking out. Sigh.....

This is a new one. I can pull up one auction but then I click on see sellers other auctions and it says CHECK YOUR ISP. IT MAY BE HAVING PROBLEMS. Page can't be loaded. Click on Refresh.
How stale!

That's a new one. Anyone else get that?

No access to Seller search, My ebay, listing problems, all repeat of Sunday and at least 2 weeks progressively. It is 15 months since their spectacular performance June last year. I think Ebay gradually chokes itself to death in about a year's time. Wonder how bad it is going to get. <BR><BR>

Way to go eBay! Now my Yahoo auctions will do great again tonight!! I had people emailing me last night saying they cant bid, so I directed them over to my Yahoo auctions with the same items. One lady had no idea yahoo was so nice, and user friendly. And since I just finished listing on Yahoo its lightning fast, while ebay is dead as a doornail. I cant believe people are paying for such lowsy service that ebay has.

Someone just told me it was on the AB, an hour outage. Seller search is down. But I still can't view my auctions if I click on the link to view my other auctions. To me, that's down.

Good thought. Maybe things will pick up on Yahoo.

*** Important Letter from Meg and Pierre ***
June 11, 1999

To our valued community members:

We are sorry. We know that you expect uninterrupted service from eBay. We believe that this is reasonable, and we know we haven’t lived up to your expectations. We want to earn back your trust that we’ll provide you with this level of service.

At about 19:50 PDT last night, June 10, 1999, we began experiencing site problems that resulted in a hard outage that lasted nearly 24 hours. This was the second time in two days that we experienced this problem.

We want to assure you that our highest priority today – as always – is your trading success. We also understand that keeping the site up and running is crucial to your achievement of this success. We cannot apologize enough for this disruption in our service and in your ability to participate in online commerce.

When the outage began last night, we immediately mobilized to fix the problem as quickly as possible. It took everyone in engineering, customer support, operations and even external vendors working all night and all day to get the site back up and running. We believe we isolated the problem, and we will keep a vigilant watch.

Here is what we did…

First, we have taken a serious look at our priorities because of this outage. We hope you will give us the chance to show you our commitment to your success and to keeping eBay up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our goal: Uninterrupted service. No fancy bells and whistles. We just want to make it work.

To help ensure this, we are working diligently on a hot backup system that should automatically limit the length of potential outages to less than an hour or so. We have been working on this system for many months, and it is almost ready. Sadly, if we had this system in place a few days ago, we might have avoided this outage.

Second, we are extending by 48 hours all auctions ending between 19:50 PDT on Thursday, June 10 and 09:00 PDT on Saturday, June 12. (Of course, you may end your auction at any time at: http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/end-auction.html)

Third, we are refunding ALL fees for ALL ACTIVE auctions on eBay between 00:01 PDT on Thursday, June 9 and 24:00 PDT on Friday, June 11. This includes Insertion Fees, Final Value Fees and Optional Fees (such as Bold, Icon, Featured and Gallery). These refunds will be automatically generated, and you will not be required to submit a written request. (Please note that these refunds will not appear immediately on your eBay account status but will appear on your June or July invoice.)

Fourth, we are implementing a new Outage Policy. Our new Outage Policy is as follows:
1. Extensions – For any hard outage over two hours, eBay will automatically extend by 24 hours all auctions scheduled to end during that outage and all auctions scheduled to end in the hour following that outage.
2. Refunds – For any hard outage over two hours, eBay will automatically refund ALL fees for auctions ending during that outage. This includes Insertion Fees, Final Value Fees and Optional Fees (such as Bold, Icon, Featured and Gallery).

Finally, we will offer a free listing event some time in July as a token of our appreciation of your continued support and understanding. Please keep an eye on the Announcements Board in the next few weeks for more information.

We know that extending your auctions and refunding your money will never be enough. We truly believe, as you do, that eBay is only as successful as you are. We promise to do everything we possibly can to help you succeed at online trading at eBay. And we promise to redouble our efforts to make sure that another outage like this one will never happen again.

Our sincere apologies,
Meg and Pierre

(bold added)

we promise to redouble our efforts to make sure that another outage like this one will never happen again.

Yeah- go ahead and pull the other finger.

They just can't stabilize. They ought to just shut it down instead of telling me that is MY ISP.

What good is it to anyone save the foreign sites anyway? None as far as I can tell.

Pink post on the DNF Board.

"The Seller Search, My eBay Seller tab, and Bid History functions are temporarily unavailable. We are doing our best to bring them back, and you should currently be able to search and bid without a problem."

Looks like an attempt to create an offical record that bidding is still possible so the site is up. Clever, very clever, and not entirely accurate.

Thank Goodness for you guys & this message board! i have been reading it the last few nights, realized it wasn't just me?
well, i feel sorry for so many sellers saying "Well, maybe ebay was just a fad, people must like different stuff right now, maybe our min bids too high,we are going to using reserves at 1.00 EACH (RIDICULOUS FOR 10.00 ITEMS),add list fee, gallery, end fee, billpoint fee,taxes..gheesh lets just have a yard sale.
Here's a new one, took me awhile to beleive what i was seeing: proof something is wrong.
I had a weird book,no bids last week i revised and put in that"totally weird" category,i've never tried that before.Let's face it we are getting desparate.Still nothing, so i put it in another book category about THURSDAY.WOW get this SUNDAY! i check my list and where my book should be it says
TOTALLY WEIRD IS NOT AVAILABLE, ok,,they are
REALLY behind,(note:why would they EVER have maintenance on Fri.am if it makes search behind on our "Precious weekends" DUH)anyway,
i check my list today,,,OH MY GOODNESS,
today is WEDNESDAY,,says TOTALLY WEIRD NOT AVAILABLE!! now that is one week & never revised yet?,Many times i can tell by my counters & bids,,THEY HAVE BEEN DOWN & NEVER EVER mentioned it on the board.the minute it starts working again, bids come, then down again and no last minute bidders..sold at min..
I have tried a few things a Yahoo, sold a few pretty cheap, but pretty nice people there, but to get hits i have to pay .10-.20 a day to be featured, but ya know,by the time we pay everything here inc.gallery & reserve..IT'S A DEAL!!& the site has been Super reliable for me. Thanks for letting me Yell!haha Seriously i worry about Christmas,we are like most sellers this isn't a lark,a pastime, this is income needed for our families needs.
take care & thanks,Pam Oregon
ps When they had the crash in June 1999,promised free list day in July wasn't it delayed,& delayed till September?of course with NO NOTICE when they did schedule it!

eBay has done it again! First thing this morning.........Here it is.....Here it isn't!!!!

A half day? An entire day? Have they ever lasted that long without some sort of an outage?
I'm talking about everything working. Not just in part, like the Search doesn't work BUT you can get to the Payment Site to pay eBay OR you can't get to any auction site BUT the announcement board is working where there is no mention of any problems.

I have posted in all my 10 day auctions that I will cancel if there are outages. If I can't bid on other people's auctions, ya think they can bid on mine?

I DON'T THINK SO!
How pathetic can this get?

Their memories are even shorter than their customer's tempers (or length of actual auctions)...

Ebay has been adding so many site enhancements, even to completely changing the sell your item page in the last couple of days, adding Honesty counters, Billpoint logos, this, that, and everything else.

STUPID *UCKS!

Don't they remember back in 1999 & other times, that EVERY TIME they have tried to cobble these additional "supposed" improvements to their site, it completely destroys the site stability. And this is what is happening again! I haven't seen many people asking for all these improvements, in fact every time eBay has checked with users, they mostly say leave well enough alone until you can 100% guarantee stability -- but they are masters of foolishness & deniability.

It is just toooo aggravating, and all you EVER get is canned mealy-mouth wimp-out responses & very infrequent announcement board posts.

Sure the bids can be often great when things are working well, but their corporate management, customer relations, and ability to handle new features in their cobbled-together system, just SUCKS!

Speaking on "enhancements"... Does anyone know what the new sell your item page is all about? I think it is the category selection improvement,(I use the term loosely). A few folks are having problems loading the page and are getting not enough memory warnings. Doesn't eBay consider that not everyone has 700mh processor, a 40 gig drive, and 96 mb of RAM. There are lots of 386's out there running Windows 3.1.

Enhancements? More like hindrances. And the dumbest ideas I've ever seen. Guess they figure you might want the little "extras" if they put them right in front of you.

However, that is not going to work either. Most people understand the ploy to get more money. Which is the only thing that matters to them.
Good point about not all people having those features. I'm real tired of getting CANNOT LOAD PAGE. REFRESH OR CALL YOUR ISP. Sorry. That isn't going to fly-again!

Careful what you say Rosalinda! Some pinks even tried to deny outages on the boards last night. If there is anyone left out there who doesn't believe the numbers, please read the fine print.

It doesn't lie.
It was stated that seller search worked. What was our problem? ?
