Well, I totally cleaned this place.

Had the carpet cleaned. Turkey in the refrigerator, everything ready.

My son in laws parents are coming. Plus a few other people

My SIL and daughter asked when should everyone be there. I said, about 3:30.
So they call, and say that everyone is coming at 12:30. I did get upset with her, and told her I had said after 3. They already told his parents...

So that screws up my plans. I just hate when people want to help in the kitchen. Its my kitchen, and it get crowded and hot with a turkey in the oven so long.

I'm gonna open our bar here early I think

God, holidays are grand!

Happy Thanksgiving!

And hope everyone else has a great day no matter how you celebrate it.

Today, we are celebrating at my parents' house. At 10 am, it's Christmas and at 1:30 it's Thanksgiving. This is the first year we are doing both on one day. My parents moved going to Florida up a month. Dad cannot handle the cold at all anymore.

There are 6 (living) children, all with spouses, with 24 grandchildren, 7 grand-spouses, and 5 great-grandchildren. So there will be a total of 50 people for Christmas this morning (more if any of the kids bring a date). This afternoon we will add aunts, uncles and cousins.

I am up early making glazed sweet potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, scalloped corn and scalloped oysters. Last night I made two cheesecakes. Mark is making a 4-layer dessert when he gets up.

It's 6 am.....I gotta get busy!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Then I get to get up tomorrow and do it all over again for Mark's family here at my house. Saturday, if we wish, we can go to Jasmine's and have dinner with my ex and ex-in-laws. (Still thinking about that one!) Isn't it incredible that when you finally get a day off work you can't sleep in and work even harder?

Our family members are all a long ways away and we didn't travel this year. So in this house there is only us 4 turkeys. The one we are going to eat and the other 3 turkeys that will eat the one.

I SINCERELY HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS THIS DAY

This year it's just me, the two wives, the three kids and all the beasties. No potential suitors either. (Darn the bad luck, nobody to goof on) The girls got up early and milked all the goats and fed the horses, cattle, poultry, lambs and all the rest so the boy and I could sleep in for once.

Have a nice day everyone!

Near - I feel your pain! I went up to my moms yesterday to do some advance work for todays dinner. First thing that I find out is that someone is coming to see the house at 6 so everything has to be spotless. (Who the hell goes house hunting at 6pm the night before Thanksgiving) Now with the deadline in place I start to work plus put a pot full of apples oranges cloves and cinnamon sticks on the stove to make the house smell "warm and inviting". Evey 15 minutes I have the step coming in to make sure that the pot does not boil over...or run out of water. Start working on the pie and suddenly my mother is in grabbing everything and checking this and that... I reminded her I was supposed to be doing this and so she stood two feet away sucking in breath everytime I move anything in a way that if I were hit in the back of the legs with a bat and collapsed would result in possible spillage of the ingredient on the floor.

I found the solution... Get a bit disturbed, a little snide in your voice and just one well worded sentence that says I have not blown yet but will if you don't get the hell out of my kitchen right now and everyone will back off and let you do your thing to "avoid the crazy person"

Happy Thanksgiving!

profe! 2 wives?

Twig, wow, doing Christmas and Thanksgiving with 50 people? I shouldn't feel so bad!

Fenix, yeah it drives me nuts. I don't mind my oldest daughter in there helping, because she actually listens to me, the other doesn't and does her own thing! And then there is her mother in law! So I got everything done that needs be, put the turkey in, after I go to the store for more stuff (you know there is always something missing you have to have! )

whew! wow, that is a good idea about simmering the apples, oranges cloves!

ya know, my mom used to take oranges and put the long cloves into it covering it and hanging in a couple rooms at Christmas
I wanted to do that , but those cloves get pricey! maybe this year.

profe,you are lucky!
Oh and I 'wrangled' my own turkey. I lifted that 20+ turkey out of the store freezer, into my fridge.

Happy Happy Thanksgiving all!

I'm opening up the bar when I get back from the store! LOL!

Abusing and killing an innocent bird betrays the life-affirming spirit of giving thanks for our life, health, and happiness. The nearly 300 million turkeys killed each year in the U.S. spend their entire lives crammed in large sheds with little room to move.

We killed a cow. Finally admitted that no one in the house actually likes turkey.

CHIMP - I just wanted to say thanks for the recipe for the cranberry salsa. I was so curious I made some yesterday. It was FANTASTIC!!

yes Near, She Who Must Be Obeyed, and She Who Need No Longer Be Listened To. They're good friends those two, and I like 'em both pretty much too. They gave me these great kids, after all.

We butchered a little hen this year...only about 16-18 pounds. Kraft, you'll be happy to know she spent her days in a 1/4 acre poultry yard with her relatives, watched and fussed over by our flock guardian dogs, scratching and gossiping and waiting for her daily kitchen scraps, happy as can be.

Rawbunzel's Turkey Recipe

Well F you all and your GD hoity-toity recipes!

Here is how I make GD turkey.

Go to the GD store and pick out the biggest Mfn' turkey you can carry. It'll be frozen solid as a GD rock so you'll have to leave it sitting in the GD fridge for a week or so.Once the MFer has thawed take the SOB and peel the plastic wrapper off. Put the whole thing in the GD kitchen sink and juggle it while you try to rinse the SOB. Don't be a dumb F and forget to take MFn' guts out first. Prepare the pan by putting a GD rack in it. Put the MFn' turkey on the rack.[Now's the time to turn on the GD oven or you'll be waiting a GD long time to put the SOB in the oven.]Now take the GD stuffing and cram it tightly into the SOB. Don't forget to stuff some into the MFn' neck area too. Get yourself a GD needle and some heavy duty thread and stitch the Mfer up. Take some string [make that MFn' string ] and tie the GD legs and wings up tight. Rub the whole GD thing with mayonaise so you don't have to waste all the GD day basting the SOB. Cover with some heavy GD duty foil and see if you can still fit the SOB in the GD oven. Close MFn' oven door and wait. When the GD thing is nearly done [you'll be able to tell by the way the GD wings are falling off] take off the MFn' foil and leave the damn thing in there for another hour or so. Meanwhile pour yourself a GD shot of whiskey and drink er' down! When the GD legs fall of the MFn' bird you'll know it's time to take it out of the GD oven. Let it sit on the GD counter for another 20 mins or so and have another GD shot of whiskey. Take it to the GD table and serve it to your SOBn' guests.

It'll be the best GD Thanksgiving of your whole MFn' life!!!

So Kraft you're still complaining about what the U.S. does,no matter what it is...lets take a look at how Canadians treat their animals.

So here we have these scumbag Canadians who beat to death over 375,000 seals every with year with baseball bats....Canadians SUCK

There is government sanctioned deer hunting in my neighborhood.

Some facts from the Canadian government about seal hunting.

Helen-I dont hunt, and personally, I could never shoot a deer. However the sad reality is that if you dont have a deer season, many of them will starve to death, just not enough food in the winter.Shooting a deer and beating a seal to death are two different ballgames.

If you google "canadian seals" there a many websites that will tell show you what happens.
Im not sure all these "myths" are myths.I guess like democrats or republicans,it depends on who you talk to.

It's definitely a sensitive issue, classic. But you can't say that all canadians "suck" just because some canadians kill seals. That's the kind of sweeping generalization that linda makes constantly.

The seals death takes minutes, seconds.
Do you know how long chickens, turkeys, cows, calves, geese and pigs suffer before being slaughtered? No, I didn't think so.
The answer is ...most of their lives. Then cows are killed by being knocked on the head. Are they dead when cut open ? Who knows?

Don't think of THAT when you roast that turkey, eat your foie gras, munch that burger, or shove that Kentucky Fried in your face, do ya ?

Grocery store beef tastes different than ranch raised meat, and it's not just antibiotics and growth hormones. It's the adrenalin that has flooded the animal's tissues in the final moments before it's slaughter. The cattle are crowded into a very small pen, prodded with hotshots and moved head to tail up a ramp leading into the killing floor. Sometimes they hurt themselves in their panic.

Most Americans eat grocery store beef. Beef that comes from animals that spent their last moments crowded together in terrifed panic.

I guess we suck too.

Classic, I agree that no matter what the reasons, seal hunting is barbaric, imo. Same as any commercial animal slaughter. I also don't agree with wearing fur of any kind. Fur animals are treated worse than animals in puppy mills because they don't care about the health of the animal, just the fur.

I often wonder if God's intentions were for us to be as cruel as possible to any animals we come across because most countries would be guilty.

Kraft when you made this statement:

"The nearly 300 million turkeys killed each year in the U.S. spend their entire lives crammed in large sheds with little room to move."

You made it sound like the U.S. were the bad guys..again.When you kill cows, chickens, turkeys you are doing it because you have to eat.But beating seals to death just for furs????? THATS BAD.

Fur harvesters are earning a living as are people who torture animals so we can eat.
Sorry some can't READ but the seals are used for other things besides fur.
No one country is more guilty than another.
We ALL abuse animals in one way or another.... trying to slander ALL the people in one country because of the actions of a few is stupid.

Classic, that was a statement from the article I posted a link to. It just showed there are alternatives to eating turkey on Thanksgiving. But I'm well aware that Canada is just as guilty as the U.S. and any other country that provides torturous conditions for the animals we consume, wear and experiment on. In my opinion, it's a disgrace. Your pictures are a disgrace and our government trying to pacify us by telling everyone everything is kosher with the seal hunt (see Helen's link) is also a disgrace.

For the Inuit, etc., I can understand their tradition and way of life, but not hunters that go there for the sport of clubbing animals so they can make money off their pelts. How do they live with themselves?
