Pillowwwwwwwwwww Pillowwwwwwwwwww! lol
Home. Done. Baked.
Party was awesome... 8 hours at the beach with a moon bounced shaped like a rocketship and for most of the day I was the only adult. But when you're wrestling with a dozen 8 years olds in a bouncing rocket and you overhear one of them say to your son "Your Mom is crazy fun!" it makes it worth the effort and muscle.
And this right on the heels of chaperoning 100 of these kids on their field trip on Friday... sheesh!
We don't have the option of a ChuckECheese because we don't have one here, or anything like it so throwing a credit card at someone else to do all the work can't be done... moon bounce parties at the beach are pretty standard. On any given Saturday or Sunday, you can drive along a 3 mile strip of the beach road here in Kihei and see anywhere between 7 and 12 moon bounces dotting the parks. I figure there are in the neighborhood of maybe 40 to 50 moon bounce parties per month just in our town alone. Actually for the money, though, you get a lot of time... pay by the hour for 3 hours and they set it up 2 hours early and didn't come to pick it up till an hour and a half after they were supposed to.
Anyway, gonna hang and surf for a tad then gonna find my p.i.l.l.o.w.!

This past spring my employer had tickets to Knott's Berry Farm for $10 each (limit 4). My teenager invited 3 friends to come along. I dropped them off at the front gate and they were out of my hair all day.
My daughter's birthday is the day after Christmas but she's already planning her big day. I'm going to do the moon bounce thing. We have a lot of kids on my street, so I think I will get a permit to block the street and invite everyone to come by for a combination birthday/holiday open house.

cassie what a good idea... BLOCK party! I love a good block party! New Year's Eve and 4th of July are entire island parties pretty much here cos everyone is extremely fireworks-happy and fireworks are REALLY REALLY cheap to buy here so there are a ton.

Kihiecat,
I know exactly what you mean. My son is 10 today and we feel this is a special b-day so we have rented a limo (his choice - very fascinated by them) and taking him and two friends to Gamewerks (Paul Allen's game place) and then to a Mariners game. No presents but it will run around $500. Normal b-days for the 3 boys run around $150 with all supplies, cake and present etc.
BTW - where are you living that you are paying $150 for a bounce house? In CA we paid no more than $75 for 5 hours - and there are so many companies doing them that you generally could get one for less if it was a slow month.
I hope he has a great party!!
BTW -
I did learn my lesson by going all out when my first was 3. We invited the ex and his entire family as well as ours and friends - 80 people in our yard with food and clown etc. ran around $250 and guess what - my son went in his room and didn't want to come out - he wanted to know why all these people kept talking to him and touching him. The happy birthday stuff. He also gave up about half way through opening gifts that one year later I gave away to a hospital about 10 or so that he had never opened. Small b-days with family and a few close friends for younger children (the under school age set) is definitely all THEY need and since it is for them I have scaled my babies birthdays way way back You live and learn I guess.

boysmommy a LIMO how cool! In answer to your question, I live on Maui, and the going rate for the moon bounce is 40 an hour for el cheapo small castle, 50 an hour for the one we got (galaxy explorer) and 70 for the ones the kids go bonkers over like Pikachu and Laser Tag Maze ... minimum of 3 hours but they come set up 2 hours early and pickup anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes late so you're really getting closer to 6 hours for the price of 3...it's a helluva business over here and you have to reserve well in advance.

Wow - what a market there.
We moved to WA last year and we went back to CA for vacation last week and our friends asked us the differences. We moved from the city to a small town and they found it hilarious that in CA all b-days had bounce houses but here the only non-family party my sons have gone to so far - the entertainment was trained pigs!!!
Our friends could not stop laughing. However; we love it here and they are semi-jealous. Small town, simple life - no more traffic, smog and high crime stress. Slower pace which I love.
Limo was my son's idea - he thinks they are so cool and a friend's uncle has a limo service and gave us a 1/2 off rate, otherwise too expensive Will let you know how it goes -
