Carole....I understand exactly how you feel about the self-rightous stick-shakers willing to "burn a cross on your front lawn" for ASKING A SIMPLE QUESTION! I too have been attacked unfairly in this forum as well as anyone else "outside the inner circle" who DARES to post here. In fact I can hardly wait to read the attacks I'll get for even defending you. The point is not really whether you're right or wrong in the capital crime of turning boxes inside out, (Heaven forbid, you evil heroin shooting slut!)the real issue is the ongoing ridicule and vicious unwarrented attacks that anyone "they" (in their pathetic little clique) don't like have to suffer for visiting the message boards for some advice! It's kind of funny though...you can bet these same unkind people wouldn't dare to confront you in such an openly hostile manner face-to-face! They're cowards hiding behind a computer keyboard, try to remember that. Now I will go back to laughing out loud behind my own keyboard at the ridiculous replies this post will generate from them. I hope you can to!
PS: When is AW going to have some self-respect and END those kind of attacks anyway??

In all fairness, the original poster did ask:
What do you all think?
If you're (you in the general sense, not any individual poster on this thread) not interested in hearing opinions which differ from yours, you might be better off not asking questions which have the potential to elicit them.

Thats one problem with these message boards. You dont know the good from the bad, and I honestly think there are people that never sold one item posting here. Now back to the topic, with the priority mail skyrocketing through the roof expect more sellers to reverse the box. I am currently thinking about leaving online because my customers will not pay 3.95 shipping + 1.35 insurance for a simple 2lb package. Most stuff on them can be found at the malls now anyway. Expect alot more dotcom death.

Whenever we ship anything other that priority,we go to a grocery store and pick-up lids they receive their cans goods in and make our own boxes. You can trace a priority box for a pattern to make a box if you need that size.

Just as an aside to heritage's comment.
I am not an 'insider' here - I have asked many questions and always received decent answers. I have never been slammed for any reason - deserved or undeserved, so I don't believe that there is any 'group' mentality against newcomers.
The only criticism I have ever received was when I asked for it - on a closed auction - and there really weren't any negative comments - just a few suggestions - which is what I was looking for.
I also don't come here looking for 'warm fuzzies'. I look for honest opinions and discussions - and while I admit that there seems to be some strong personalities, I don't feel that they 'group' up on people - they may share some of the same strong convictions though.

I prefer priority boxes for all shipping, but at times, I will have large items to ship, and I have to open the boxes and tape 2 together to accommodate the large item. Now they look better turned inside out, so that's what I do, BUT, I plaster the box with the priority labels. So there!

IMLDS2, don't worry about that little card. It's a routine agreement for anyone who orders the Priority supplies.
Definately don't turn Priority boxes inside out, tho, you might be asking for trouble. Fortunately most everyone here is helpful, but there are a few hostile posters here who would mess with your business if they could...I've seen it happen on several occasions.
Anyway, I've seen lots of posts here about buying boxes for a good price on eBay and other websites. Do you live near any stores? They are always happy to give you a supply of boxes. Get a big box and fill it up with little boxes. They will also give you their old bubble wrap and packing peanuts. Great for recycling, too.
Just don't try those used pizza boxes...ants, you know.

mzalez,
That was a very nice post! I can't imagine anyone would use pizza boxes to ship anything. I'm not sure what you are shipping, but having some nice boxes portrays what kind of business impression you'd like to make! I'd like to keep mine professional .
Yep, USPS wants you to sign that card so they can continue to send you free boxes for priority purposes. Don't burn that bridge. **FREE BOXES**

You can use them inside out wrapped in brown paper and probably get away with it, but it is not an honest way to conduct business.
"How you behave when no one is looking, that's who you are"
I remember reading that somewhere, and it kind of stuck with me.

I haven't gone anywhere,HCQ, I'm just doing my best to avoid defending the poor souls you and your cronies attack here in this forum and concentrate on using AW for pic hosting and nothing else. But every once in a while the sarcastic, nasty, insulting bile your little gang spews is just too much to ignore. Now I have an idea! Why don't you respond by reminding all of your buddies about the last idea I shared with everyone about listing auctions and just how VERY STUPID it was! THAT will shut me up again!

At one point in time I was having a problem with one clerk at the postal branch I go to hassling me about recycling priority boxes. She told me I had to pay priority on the box even tho priority had been paid previously on it when sent to me. I was irked and e-mailed the usps website. Here is their reply to me and I carry a copy of it with me whenever I go to the post office. I quote:"Thank you for visiting our website again, and I am very sorry that
some of our employees are not current with our policy on recycling
priority mail and express mail boxes. To confirm our policy, you can
use any priority mail or express mail box AS LONG AS the priority mail
logo, and any relation to it is not visable. Therefore, if you turned
the box inside out, it would be perfectly acceptable to use for
standard mail packages or book rate packages. Now, as you note some
of the boxes have USPS stamped on the inside - I did not realize this.
However, you don't actually have to completely wrap the box in brown
paper - you must, however, completely obliterate the USPS logo/letters
so they cannot be deciphered. I hope this information is helpful to
you. "

heritage, the same has happened to me. Don't let the negative remarks get to you.
avmom, there was a thread awhile back by a poster named mboyko (I think) who actually did ship his wares in used pizza boxes. When he received a neg over it, he was indignant. The thread was amazing to read.
bigred66, thanks for that interesting note from the UPSP website. It's incredible how policies vary from post office to post office, even from clerk to clerk in the same site! Does your note actually work for you?

The problem is,mzalez, this forum allows all kinds of sadists to crawl out from under their rocks and band together to rip apart anyone even REMOTELY "out of the loop" relative to what correct auction procedures might be or associated legalities. Of course most of the time their comments when not purely hateful are illustrative of their experience on the auctions and therefore potentially very helpful...but it just isn't worth the abuse one has to put up with while wading through the garbage to find those few pearls of wisdom they occasionally throw the "uninformed and illiterate" who don't "belong".
Now don't get me wrong...I'm a child of the 60's who would NEVER want to silence the power of Free Speach! But I have never believed that right gives anyone a license to knowingly and willfully hurt another's reputation, feelings of self-worth, or on another level, their business, and it a well known fact and has been stated by others here that some hostile posters will actually SABATOGE another seller's business! That's why so many seller's try to remain "incognito" here of course! Well.....enough venting.....I've given them enough fodder to make myself the target for a while and hopefully take their sites off the originator of this thread who must surely regret ever asking her question by now!

I got the most awesome supply of boxes when the local High School Band did their annual chocolate almond sale. Sturdy, not too small, not too big.

heritage, remember that the reason someone tries to hurt you is because he/she himself/herself is hurt--on this board or out on the street, anywhere.
This board, along with providing great sources of practical information--unfortunately--also provides outlet for all sorts of negative frustrations and stuff.
It does get pretty ridiculous at times, I agree with you there. For me it's worth wading through the evil to get to that good information. Just ignore the bad stuff, or else you'll get suckered into becoming someone else's sick form of entertainment--you know, just like back in grade school!

toollady -
That's the regulation my USPS clerks showed me. It was added to end the misuse, but it is difficult to make some clerks read the regs and follow them.

Sources for free boxes are sometimes grocery stores. Our stores here flatten them, but they are glad to have us dig through the cart they put them in to get out the right sizes. Thats before they take them out to the dumpster or incinerator so we recycle that way when we can or if the item dosnt' fit in Priority boxes. And brown paper grocery sacks are also recycled for covering packages when needed.
