If
ebay fails it will be because of site instability and so far we've put up with that and a lot more!

I went to my first collectibles/antique show last Saturday. Wow, I said, I could buy on ebay and sell here!

Whoa, I said then, are you crazy? You maybe only getting half or a third of the value on ebay, but you are getting cash now! These people are sitting all day, after unpacking and setting up, then they may have hundreds of lookers but how many sales have you actually seen?

Better to take the money and run so to speak. Have the money, become a more astute buyer and make it up in turnover! Granted it's harder and harder to buy at the right price, but you still can, it just takes longer to find it.

Cybercat,

I really hope you read this because this is what you need to do. i myself am one of the garage sale/junker dealers on ebay. I have a multitude of repeat buyers. The thing you need to do is find the sellers who sell the types of items you want and not the new items others sell and bookmark their sellers list and look at them once in awhile. You will build up a repeat buyers relationship with the sellers you are most interested in. I myself give discounts to my repeat buyers, but what they mostly get from me is old used items alot of people don't sell on ebay. I offer things extrememly cheap yet still make a profit and 99% off all my buyers are extremely happy with their items.

I remember a time when I could go thrifting and find all kinds of goodies to sell on eBay. Now I am lucky if I find one thing while I am out. So many times I get asked about selling on eBay from people who think its a matter of throwing the item onto the site and collecting their money. No work involved. So we have folks out there hearing about eBay and watching Antique Roadshow who keep their goodies (even if they aren't so good) and are trying their hand at selling. More sellers = less bidders = slow sales.

I seen the tread of sellers selling new merchandise coming for quite some time. The flea market we went to in Ohio was the beginning of this tread as well. Now you only find new items and Beanie Babies and always the person who has his booth set up to show you how to use some new great product!

I have been selling since January 1999 and this is the slowest I have ever seen things. I am a good seller. I have over 400 positive feedbacks (no negs), I list my items in detail with photos, my shipping is low (never above priority unless an item is heavy), I have tried selling everything from books (which I sell the most with book rate shipping) to clothing to knick-knacks to cd's and things are still stinky for me right now! My last straw was on Sunday, the 12th when eBay went down the exact moment my auctions were ending then came back up when they were over. The timing was perfect. I lost out on potential last minute bids and eBay didnt refund my fees when I asked.

Unless the influx of new items slows down, bidders return, the site stabilizes and the bad sellers and deadbeats are fazed out, I dont think things will pick up for eBay. I keep thinking of someone who mentioned that eBay was a fad and perhaps it will never be the same!

Analysts have downgraded eBay and are predicting a raise in listing/closing fees in the new year.
