I never got a pin from ebay when I hit the 1,000 feedbacks ranking about 3 years ago. It may have been before they started the program though.
Years ago I did win $100 from Yahoo Auctions when they started the PayDirect service and you place their PD logo on your auctions.

replaymedia, I was doing alot of business at yahoo when to my surprise I received a thank you note with a hat. I have it put away in my collection.
I have thousands of feedbacks at ebay, and never got ANYTHING. Cheapskates!
Ace, I was not there from the start, but I doubt she has any inside knowledge. Time will tell.

What I want to know is why are you bothering with Bidville any more. Now that they are not just dead like before, the dirt has been pushed over the coffin.
Although to Bidville credit, they did make a separate area for worthless sports cards, kind of like when ebay made a seperate area for cars in ebay motors. Only trouble is, ebay motors makes money. Bidville worthless cards don't.

BW, looks like you'll win the pool if/when BV opens the new fangled chat thingie.
There was a recent article about ebay Power Sellers and the AFL-CIO Union was mentioned.
A spokeswoman for the AFL-CIO said the organization has not really thought about eBay sellers and does not plan to take up their cause.
Do you suppose that was what Patty was talking about? Many/most people dislike unions with a passion and the thought of an organized-unionized Power Seller Union may send many ebay sellers running for the hills. I would not be surprised if more than a few PSer's have sent inquries to the AFL-CIO about possibly organizing them into a unionized unit. If 80% of all ebay sales are from only by 20% of the ebay sellers ( per recent net articles ) then those 20% have a lot of collective bargaining power.
Could be what she was talking about?

Ace, I doubt she was talking about that. ebay is not a employer so its no surprise the union shot the sellers down. On a side note, I have worked in union and non-union plants, and you cant beat having a union. We got better pay and benefits than other non-union plants had.

With a union you can have totally worthless employees and super industrious workers all making the same pay. The super industrious worker may be laid off and the worthless worker retained in the event of a layoff due to seniority. I favor a 'meritocracy'.
Ebay is a company and Power Sellers work for them. If the PSers want to unionize they have the right. If the average schmoo seller tried to boycott ebay then ebay would chuckle, but if a huge percentage of the PSer's were to boycott ebay then ebay would see some serious fiscal damage.
I see the new BV boards are up. I predicted some special rooms away from Dimviewish eyes and there are now two of them. This a lot of azzkizzin' going on with the new sheriff.

Ace, like everything there are positives and negatives, but in todays job market with companies screwing their employees they come in handy.
Actually ebay is renting space in my opinion. I think of eBay as a landlord, not employer. I said it many times before, if each seller would list 1/2 their items on yahoo there would be 2 sites with the same amount of listings. The sites would have to fight to be #1, and that competition would be great for sellers, but its not going to happen or it would have by now.
I went to bidville and saw the "special rooms". Things may be calm now, but sooner or later the natives will become restless. Also the madcow site requires registration to view the site.

There's only one moderator now. She must just check in once in a while for possible damage control. I have a feeling that the mod may be Jennifer, the quasi-doctor's squeeze.

Funny you should mention that Ace. One bidville seller I am friends with emailed me last evening saying it could be his wife jennifer. I always said "bryan" and "terrence" were ed, so this would not surprise me at all.

The give-away may be her style of writing. She use to post a bit on the BV boards and the educated and light-hearted writing style is similar to her's.
I believe there is a Bryan ( sounds a little like I believe in Santa? ) and he is still in Penn doing the grunt work. Ed & Jenn may have final control and there's the Mich address for payments that indicates that. If the new chatrooms are a typical Ed move then he will tire of it soon and revert back to the old system or replace them with just the announcement forum.
The live moderation may turn into a twice-a-day glance at the boards.
In the 1920's or 1930's Winston Churchill said something like this about Iraq that may have some similarities to the Wild West town of Bidville. "Only a ruthless dictator can hope to rule such a land".

The problem is that in areas that I puruse, ebay auctions close betwen 25and 100% higher than Yahoo auctions. There are some items that I can't find from suppliers that I buy off of yahoo to resell on ebay.

To be honest I dont know how sellers are making money these days with such low prices. Usually we start eBay/yahoo selling in September, but with items so cheap we have been buying in mass to stock our mall store for the holidays. Last week we purchased over 100 items on ebay at rock bottom price. I never thought it would be cheaper to buy the goods on ebay instead of other suppliers. I dont know if its due to the mass saturation of goods on ebay, the economy, or both. eBay is an excellent buyers market now if you have a venue to sell the goods.

AuctionBytes was saying that the sell thru rate on collectibles on ebay was down to 50% and that is one of the categories with the highest rates in the past. Not just a lower STR but much lower final prices. It's got to be a combination of weak economy and lower demand to to oversupply.

Just a followup on some predictions made early in this thread about moderation at BV
The live moderation may turn into a twice-a-day glance at the boards.
There's only one moderator now. She must just check in once in a while for possible damage control.
Another weak attempt to please the masses.

Here's a quote from the ex Carnaby mod about Carnaby
Mr. Palandro returned to Carnaby when Rick and Su were kicked out. He wanted to save the company, but there was little he could do. We were all not getting paid, and the investors weren't getting any money either. I am under the impression that many of them losts tons of money due to broken promises
What in the 'Wide World of Sports' is to keep the same darn thing from happening to BV? Now there are numerous salaries to pay, investors expecting a return on their investment, an advertising campaign, etc.
It's like buying the 'Bates Motel' and trying to turn it into the 'Ritz'.

Which Bidville post?
The part I liked about the post on Moo from the ex Carnaby worker was that the investors were are all foreigners. The Carnaby brass must have given them a total snow job and when they demanded to see the book the stuff hit the fan and the plug was pulled. Can they pull it off again? Surely the 'investors' will be much more careful this time.

I just wonder if there are "investors"? Wonder how long until the fees come?

I suppose someone complained about quotes from other chatboards being posted.
The investors at Carnaby that got duped must have been totally clueless about non-ebay online auctions. They saw ebay's huge success and fell for a line of BS. Carnaby was a nice site but it never ever had any kind of a chance to be even marginally profitable. I was amazed to see that they had investors even backing the site at all. Carnaby was just a nice tiny site without any prospects of being any kind of a real player.
