OldandSold...so if this painting is not being auctioned at your site, why is it in the "Featured Auction" category? And the entire Molly Brown story was completely debunked...why do you allow it to be listed with this information?

Seems to me if you want to be known as a reliable source of legitimate antiques, you would avoid these questionable works.

e-mail on!

OldAndSold -
I can read the lab anlysis as well as anyone, and out of a molehill of facts the owner of the painting constructs entire continents of specious marketing crap.

This does NOT inspire confidence in your site that you would willingly collude with the fraudulent claims of the seller ... claims that are not backed up by public records OR by the lab anlysis.

At least they have left the purported letter by the dead expert off their evidence list. For now anyway.

I am not getting the e-mail notification and I did check the appropriate box.Is it
possible that I have swithced ISP's since
registering with AW last year? Can someone
tell me how to check that or change my e-mail
address without re-registering? I don't want to miss any of this! Thanks

Just heard from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) that they've notified their legal counsel, in case in providing "more information" to prospective buyers, our friend decides to lead anybody to believe that LACMA had anything to do with this travesty. Lots of eyes watching.

gm8549 ~ if you look at the top of the page, you see the tab "my account" .. click that. You may have to login at this point. On the next page, you've got "personal preferences" listed and under there choose "personal information". The email info can be found under there.

I *think* this is the way to change it. Once you do all that .. you may have to make another post and make sure you've got the 'email' thingy checkmarked.

Has it occurred to anyone that a principal party in Old And Sold Auction might be the OWNER of the painting???

I can't imagine why else they would go through this again, unless they thought that:

1) Everyone had FORGOTTEN about the painting's fraudulence....OR
2) No one would NOTICE it was posted there again....OR
3) They can't be stopped from selling it as a Van Gogh unless the Supreme Court rules against them.

Even the Energizer Bunny and Timex Watches eventually quit.

I think the true owner of this painting is Al Gore.

Say what you will, OldAndSold is the only site on the Internet where you can get a genuine Rolex for under $10.

As many of you may recall, this past October several sources - including 3 people at LACMA, Mr. Rewald's daughter-in-law, and Scott Haskins - identified Tom Bright as the owner of the painting both back in 1987 and currently. (LACMA and Ms. Rewald also told me that, once those of us at AW had started to make some noise, Mr. Bright had actually telephoned them and threatened to sue them.)

So unless between October and now Mr. Bright has sold the painting (or a share of it) to OAS - in which case, the ability of OAS's antique-dealer principals to spot a loser comes into question - I think we can safely say he's still the owner...and granee's other suppositions step up to the plate. Of course, there's always bobbysoxer's implied suggestion that OAS is using controlled substances?

Hmmm...I think the O&S guy scuffed dirt on me...

Entirely OT:

HCQ: OMG, you don't have a sewing machine?!?! You poor thing! The withdrawal symptoms must be awful! Thank goodness, O&S was kind enough to offer you a diversion for the time being.

I've just spent some time wandering around the O&S site. It's not a bad looking place but it doesn't seem to be attracting many bidders. I counted roughly 1000 items available and a total of 5 bids.

I didn't look at all of the items for sale but I did note that they have a lot of high end furniture and some rather expensive artwork. Not much information is provided in the listings.

It all seems rather odd to me.
