I know for a fact this is not true. We updated everyone of 500 auctions this month to add "Buy It Now" options, and revised many of them a second time to add PayPal and Billpoint options, and all show up in a search.

Hi All, Of course the auction shows up in search, it is the REVISION that will never show up in search. And the source of this info is EBAY. they disable this function because it is too much for them to keep up with. If you revise the auction BEFORE it is indexed in title search the revision WILL show up, but once the item indexes in title search, no further revisions will show up.
You can believe TAG - we check our info pretty carefully, and though we are just human and do make mistakes, so far our record is pretty good. Also if we make mistakes, we always publish corrections. Infallible? of course not, pretty darn reliable? yup! -Rosalinda

I left out a key letter in a title once, so my auction would not come up on a name keyword search. I revised the auction title and 4 days later it still would not come up on search by name.....yes, it would come up on the misspelling. Fortunately I had a reserve.

Not only is eBay not updating revisions to appear in search - according to support they aren't even adding bids to description search ! They admitted this to me after several emails back and forth. I guess they were tired of lying to me when I couldn't figure out why my items never showed a price in search even though there had been bids for DAYS!

and I mentioned in a thread that the Buy it Now icon still shows after bids and I get emails from people wanting to know why the buy it now feature doesn't work for them. PLEASE end it ! .....I wanna buy it.

I believe TAG!
I believe my own experiences. The descriptive search index isn't constantly updated. Do a search for an item with the title search and notice the number of bids. Now do a search for the same item with keywords using a descriptive search, notice the number of bids (you'll see only the number when it was added to the database).
If you revise the description before the item is included in the descriptive search database your changes will be found via a descriptive search. If you make changes AFTER your item has been included in the descriptive search database it won't.

First, people need to be aware that there are two different search indexes: title search, and descriptive (title w/descriptions) search.
There are 3 different kinds of updates that are being talked about:
- The number of bids/bid amounts displayed in the listing pages
- Revised descriptions being updated in search
- The BIN icon displayed in the listing pages
It takes a couple of hours for the title of an auction to be indexed into title-only search, and upwards of 24 hours for every word in an auction description to be indexed into descriptive search. Title-only search is updated throughout the day. Description search is not updated for existing items except for featured and gallery items. This has been going on for a while; it didn't used to be this way.
Therefore:
Title-only seach will return accurate results for bid counts/amounts and BIN status, current as of the last update.
Descriptive search will not return accurate results for bid counts/amounts or BIN status in the listings page, nor will it bring up descriptions revised after initially being indexed, unless the item is featured or in the gallery.

Ahh well, you can't expect everything on a silver platter.....
I don't have time to do this tonight - but got back as far as 10 Oct - where the turning off of revised search is mentioned in TAGnotes - next time I have some free time I will try to track it down to the ebaY post on it.
Pretty good info Glenda - and YOUR source???

Rosalinda: I'd asked eBay about bid counts/amounts not being updated in descriptive search a while back. I hadn't put the revisions to descriptions together w/ descriptive search until today when I started laying it out in my head, which is why I asked if you had the AB message, 'cause I didn't remember what it said. I also did several test searches this afternoon, and I read a "documentary" thread in the Search forum at eBay. As for BIN, I've been informally helping "debug" BIN issues since it started; I'd been perplexed as to why sometimes the icons/auctions still show up after they're closed.
Sufficient, you think?

I've noticed if I launch an auction with the AW Pro I can't revise it on eBay it just goes wierd and won't revise. They must use some wierd HTML codes in the templates! I read before on the boards here that people were having trouble revising and thought it was odd, I have Blackthorne for several month and never have trouble revising until the Free Listing day. No more AW Pro for me, it was very frustrating.

Last I knew ebaY was still denying that featured/gallery pic items were the only ones with bid price updates. Was wondering if you had more definitive info from your Voices contact at ebaY. Theories are better posted as such when not exactly sufficiently backed up by more precise fact - something you are always ready to take me to task for. I agree in most part with your analysis. -Rosalinda

ebaY reported on 13Sep 21:57:17 PT that Description Search indexing is not working and is taking in excess of 24 hours and continues to fall behind. In order to decrease the time required to complete an indexing cycle, ebaY made an emergency change to capture only information for newly listed items. Changes to items that are already indexed are not indexed in this process, including edited titles and description changes. This change will remain in place until ebaY has fixed Description Search. - ENDQUOTE -Rosalinda

Glenda, your agenda is showing.... the direct quote from the ebaY announcement board bolding is mine -
QUOTE-

*** DESCRIPTION SEARCH ***
Each day, we run several indexing cycles for Description Search. These indexing cycles are run to capture new information, such as new listings, bids, etc. Over the last several months, we have been working to make improvements to our indexing cycles to reduce the time it takes to complete a cycle and to allow newly listed items to appear in Search results sooner. Some of you have written to us about the slowness of Description Search updates.
Description Search indexing captures information for all items - newly listed items, updated item descriptions for current items and bid information for current items. The cycle for capturing all of this information takes about 24 hours and unfortunately has been falling behind after a few days.
Recently we have been concerned about the timeliness of Description Search information. And, in order to decrease the time required to complete an indexing cycle, we made an emergency change to capture only information for newly listed items. Changes to items that are already indexed are not captured in this process, including edited titles and description updates. This change will remain in place until we have addressed the performance of Description Search.
Of course, you can always check the individual item page for updates on item descriptions and for the most current bid information.
We hope this helps keep you informed of where we stand with Description Search, and we look forward to bringing you more news on our progress.
Regards,
eBay

Rosalinda, while it would be fairly safe to point out that you and I are not friends, I have no "agenda" with you. I didn't disagree about any of the things you have highlighted; I pointed out that you were talking about one search function and it was the other one that is affected.
If you had said that your investigations had shown that title search was also affected, that would be one thing - but you said in your first explanatory message here that eBay said "title" search; as the Announcement shows and as you had originally paraphrased in your TAGnotes, the issue is with "description" search, which is a completely different search engine.
