The absolute best this woman will get from me is a neutral. I do not neg when I am angry. I only neg when I have been through all alternatives to try and make things ok (and I do not think I am difficult to please). So, I am saving my neg, and will create a link to this thread as part of it, so that people will hopefully see how unhelpful she can be.

Do Not provide a link to this thread in your feedback for this seller. I'm pretty sure that by doing so the buyer will be able to have the neg removed. I'll try & find the info on eBay.
Good luck with your CC company, and remember, if the charge back does go through, Billpoint will charge the seller an extra $10 charge back fee as well.

Here's the info, eBay uses the word link, but I would imagine posting a URL would have the same result.

This seller seems to have an excellent record. It sounds like they did make a mistake by not packing both items in extra padding. I agree if the item was not packed properly and the box is undamaged that it is the seller's responsibility. He/she should at minimum offer some credit.

When I ship small packet air which can't be insured to most locations I tell the customer:

"The item will be packed securely. Unfortunately we have no control against loss , damage or theft once we turn it over to the post office. If you want it insured it will require parcel post or registered mail which will cost $ ".

Usually the cost is too exhorbitant unless it is a more expensive item.

Thanks for the link on FB removal. I didn't realize they considered so many conditions.

I just saw a feedback response the other day that linked to a lengthy document that was a record of all email correspondence between buyer and seller. I thought it was an great idea as it gave an accurate picture of what happened. 80 characters just doesn't do it sometimes. Be interesting to know their rationale.

Yes, it's interesting what eBay will indeed remove with regards to neg feedback.

In the past year I've seen neg feedback removed because a seller used the first name of the deadbeat. Something along the lines of "John never paid me for this auction". eBay removed it because they consider a "first" name a RL name.

I also saw a sellers feedback removed [and he received a warning] because he posted the URL to his web site in all of his feedback left.
"Thanks for the biz from www.goodstuff.com"
[just made the name up Mr/Mrs Moderator, so relax ]

Nuts huh?

Ok, I have come up with a couple of ideas, but would be grateful for any suggestions.

Poor packing=broken, no remorse/refund. See Auctionwatch.com "Bad packing" post.

Will the first satisfy Ebay's censors?

It is soooo hard to do this in 80 characters.

Thanks DWest, but I didn't have insurance on the parcel anyway. If it had been lost or if it *had* been damaged by USPS, then I would think the seller quite justified in saying "But you didn't have insurance".

I didn't have insurance because she didn't buy it. The auction stated that US S&H would include insurance, and I assumed (I know! I know!) that she would have included it on S&H abroad as well. I asked her to quote me for S&H to the UK, airmail, and she did. In my haste to get it here for Christmas, I didn't bother with emails checking 1) it had insurance and 2) she was sending it by a method that had insurance. She just named the price, and I paid it.

But even if I *had* insurance, the damage was done on the inside of the parcel, because of the loose pin, not because of any USPS action - or at least nothing out of the ordinary.

Update... and it is nearly over, I hope.

My credit card company rang me today to ask for a final email to be sent to her, which I will send to them on Monday, along with any reply I may (but probably won't) get.

I sent them the auction listing, and all my correspondence with the seller, her contact details as listed in Ebay, along with my correspondence with Billpoint and the attempted conciliation at SquareTrade. They said I had done very well in trying to resolve it myself, and at this stage they could step in.

Yippee!

And her neg is still pending.

I do hope this works out in your favor. I can't understand this Seller's point of view. From the sound of your posts, you are a reasonable buyer. I'll bet if she had made this good for you, you would have bought more from her in the future.

I thank you for this post and the update. You have given me much to think about as I just won an auction for a fragile item. I will e-mail the seller and politely inquire as to their plans for packing it---and, I will emphasize the need for insurance.

I appreciate that I could learn from your experience.

Do beware relying on insurance for any breakage - that is what this seller would have done (had there been any purchased) and the insurance would not have covered the damage. Insurance covers you against loss/theft or breakage by the post office but not for poor packing.

Just make sure that they pack it very, very carefully and it should be fine. It sounds like careful packing inside a box, placed inside another box with loads of poly-peanuts around it is the way to go. Tell them not to stint on the packing and be prepared to pay for it. As one poster said... if it can be dropped 5 feet onto concrete without breaking, it is ready to go!

YES!!! I got the chargeback! Well, a conditional chargeback anyway.

The credit card company asked me for all the details on the transaction and my attempts to resolve it. They were sent the auction listing, and copies of all my emails to the seller, to Billpoint, to Square Trade and the photograph of the damage that I sent to the seller. They then asked me to email the seller and copy to them the email stating that I wished to have a refund, and that I would return the items to her on receipt of the cost of postage to return it to her, or that she could collect it from me, but I don't think she will be travelling from Orlando to London just to get it.

I sent the email, and didn't get any response (no surprise there). So I faxed it to my CC company after a few days of no response, and hey presto!

And the moral of this story is... pay by credit card!
