Just as when HIV/AIDS first appeared in our Nation....the gays who came down with this new illness weren't QUARANTINED....as they should have been. It wasn't politically correct. Now look where the AIDS epidemic is in America.
Now we have a stronger, more aggressive strain of HIV just breaking out - starting in Seattle, WA.
QUARANTINE THEM!!! Keep them from spreading it to others AGAIN.

Health officials warn of new HIV threat found in King County

Four men in King County have been diagnosed with a strain of HIV that is extremely hard to treat, and health officials are concerned it could spread further.
At least two types of HIV drugs don't work against the strain, and another type has limited effectiveness, officials from Public Health Seattle & King County said Thursday.
"It's conceivable there can be more infections, and the gay community is at highest risk," said Dr. Bob Wood, the HIV/AIDS program director for Public Health.
All the men were diagnosed with the strain as soon as they tested positive for the virus - unlike other HIV patients who develop drug resistance over time, often from taking medications inconsistently, Wood said. But there is no evidence the strain is rapidly spreading.
The four known cases were found over the course of more than a year. These were the only such cases reported in the state.
Wood said all of the infected men are gay and have had multiple partners, most anonymous. They also used methamphetamine, which tends to increase sexual activity.
Public-health officials have found some of the patients' partners, and so far none has the resistant strain. But many others have not been found because the men had anonymous sexual encounters, Wood said.
No one yet knows how easily this particular strain may be transmitted to others. There is no evidence it was spread to Seattle from another city.
Still, Wood said the cases should serve as an early warning because "they show there is some ongoing transmission."
"We're very concerned about gay men becoming more complacent and not using condoms," said Wood.
Studies in Seattle and other cities have verified that gay men in recent years have been engaging in more unsafe sex.
Physicians don't believe the new strain will cause the infected patients to progress more rapidly to full-blown AIDS.
But once they do have AIDS, finding the right combination of drugs to control the virus could be difficult.
"If it's not controlled at all, they do poorly," said Dr. Bob Harrington, director of the Harborview Medical Center's Madison Clinic, which treats HIV patients.
Harrington said treating patients who are resistant to several types of drugs could cost more than twice the typical $15,000 a year that it costs to treat other HIV patients.
About 350 to 400 new cases of HIV infection are reported in King County each year.
About 8,000 county residents are living with the virus, including those with AIDS.
Public Health plans to distribute fliers in gay bars and bathhouses warning of the new strain. And Wood said physicians are being asked to test all newly diagnosed HIV patients for drug resistance and report them to the health department.
Health officials urge gay men who have unprotected sex with multiple partners, use methamphetamines or have another sexually transmitted disease to get tested for HIV every three months.

I wasn't thinking of myself....like some always do ....I was thinking of the costs to our society. Because some don't think they have to be responsible for their own actions...don't care....until it happens to them. THEN we're supposed to take care of them.
They play....we're expected to pay. How about they take the chance...fine...then THEY pay the consequences themselves. Think all the 'bleeding hearts' would agree to that? lol I don't.
HIV/AIDS has, as everyone knows, changed the WORLD. Reaped HAVOC....caused illness and DEATH to hundreds of thousands. Caused suffering of not only themselves but all those around them.
Pretty darn selfish is how I see them.
And now we see that we have a strain that most meds won't help with.
The liberal 'if it doesn't affect you - don't worry about it' mantra DOESN'T apply when they come to the taxpayers for their care.

Imo, most sexually active people around the world ARE concerned about the hiv/aids pandemic.
To say they're in some minority is just not based in FACT. It's DENIAL of the reality that all people face now.
And since 1981 GAYS have been the largest group of people spreading this terrible disease that has NOW been the biggest cause of spreading this life threatening disease to everyone in America, canada, and around the world.
AND they STILL ARE 25 years later.
So for 25 years while they
and those who support their lifestyle don't wish to admit it....it's their group that has spread this devastation through America and canada. So....it's not TRUE to say what they do doesn't affect anyone BUT them - it affects us ALL.
And now THEY expect other Americans to PAY for their immoral behaviors.
NOW we find our nation, once again, faced with the terrible reality that a NEW strain has entered the picture in the US.
And I say...quarantine them NOW....before it spreads like the initial outbreak in the US did. BEFORE it ALSO starts entering ALL groups of sexually active people and gives them, too, a DEATH SENTENCE.

If people are having sex and do not know how they can contract HIV or how it is spread it is their own fault if they come down with HIV. The FACTS SHOW/PROVE that in 1981 it WAS the gay community where hiv/aids was spreading.
Some asked for them to be quarantined at that time.
But no.....the gay community was fighting that tooth and nail.
And NOW we see the results that SOCIETY has suffered because of their lack of caring about how THEIR BEHAVIORS were affecting society. SELFISH

Yes, EVERYONE in the world now lives with the worry of contacting hiv/aids. We didn't before the gay community here in the US and in canada decided THEY didn't CARE what happened to others. Their sex lives were more important to them.

I see it much differently.
I see those who support this behavior are the enablers of it continuing to be the threat it has become. It takes more and more lives all the time. And as we can EASILY see it quickly when out of being 'only a gay disease' and now all are at risk....their lives are at risk.
A company making money/profits doesn't take lives....put the life of others at such high risk.
You can't compare the two, that's just more of your crazy thinking.

Linda_K, once again you must have me mixed up with someone else you're channeling as I haven't said anything about bedrooms here. What others do in their bedrooms doesn't interest me. They could also be doing it in a park, on a plane or in an elevator or broom closet for all I know or care.
Bottom line, each person is responsible for his/her own sex life. Teaching awareness is the key to prevention for all kinds of problems and solely teaching abstinence or trying to force everyone into it just because you may choose that path in life does not work for everyone else.
A few years ago when the stats were posted the states with the highest abortion rate, the highest teen pregnancy, the most venereal diseases, the most divorces and the most murders were all Conservative yet the Liberals are always being blamed by the so-called 'moral ones' for being bad and promiscuous. Kind of reminds me of all those 'do good' politicians and preachers that have recently been exposed.

We're talking here about a NEW strain that COULD be held back/stopped maybe even IF so many like you COULD face up to the fact that what people chose to do DOES affect others.

Just as hiv/aids has since gay men started spreading it in the US in NY and CA....and we did nothing.
Imo, we should learn from history and quarantine them NOW...before this new strain enters all of our society just like it did back inthe '80s.
