Will this really help ANYTHING? Will this heal the wounds?
Imo, it won't. But I guess if it helps at all then maybe it was worth being said.
But reparations to blacks for the slavery of their ancestors? Imo, no way.

Virginia Apologizes for Role in Slavery
By LARRY O'DELL

RICHMOND, Va. -- Meeting on the grounds of the former Confederate Capitol, the Virginia General Assembly voted unanimously Saturday to express "profound regret" for the state's role in slavery.
Sponsors of the resolution say they know of no other state that has apologized for slavery, although Missouri lawmakers are considering such a measure.
The resolution does not carry the weight of law but sends an important symbolic message, supporters said.

Of course you don't agree with the FACT that slavery is wrong...you would love free labor and consider it your right .....
I see you're scrambling once again to draw attention away from your most recent butt kickings that you took

Anderson Cooper on CNN recently had an excellent show on modern day slavery in the U.S., Cambodia and Africa where people are forced to work for others and it addressed labor issues as well as the sex industry. It was sad to see what those in power will do to another human but the most disturbing part of the report was how children are treated.
But I was really hoping to hear opinions about whether other posters really believed passing these kind of 'non binding statements' would change anything HERE, in AMERICA to ease the tensions between OUR blacks ...to ease racial tensions, etc. HERE in AMERICA.

When will Arkansas apologize for LINDA_K?
Hey Linda, do you live in Dumass, Arkansas, oops I mean Dumas, Arkansas?
Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.

No, Anderson Cooper didn't mention the conditions in Canada, either because Canada is pretty well ignored by U.S. media or he may have wanted to focus on worldwide conditions and not just North America in an hour show.
Canada's human trafficking problem has been reported on by the media within Canada for many years now when massage parlors are investigated or when some of the sex slaves or labor workers that were first brought into Canada are moved across the border into the US and sometimes caught. It's a worldwide problem and Canada is certainly not immune.

That always cracks me up when a liberal tries to use AR, a state we retired to, AGAINST me.
Especially when THEY support a 'president' was born and raised here.
But...that's 'liberal thinking' for you.
Always off the mark by hundreds of miles.

It's a WORLDWIDE problem, kiara, not just the three countries cooper chose to speak about.
Women and children used by others in the sex trade is terrible....but NOT TOPIC related AT ALL.

Imo, YOU suffer from a terrible case of narcissism, kiara.
When I post articles about Canada.....**I** am speaking about the COUNTRY of Canada....NOT YOU
While YOU appear to become DEFENSIVE each and ever time I bring up anything I don't care for that Canada is doing - so YOU will be in the 'lime-light' you so seek.
I personally KNOW you are only ONE Canadian....and not a very informed one at that. It's YOU who feels the need to become involved in EVERY post I make....NOT the other way around.
So...to sum it all up....NO....It's NOT the same at all. sybil and he who doesn't believe Bush approves of the war.....ALWAYS post their SICK comments to ME, DIRECTLY. I don't to you.
posted on February 25, 2007 12:11:54 PM newDid cooper happen to mention anything about Canada's SLAVERY issue????
Linda_k, you asked. Since I was the one that mentioned seeing his show and since I knew of the situation in Canada that has been reported by Canadian media, I answered your question.
posted on February 25, 2007 12:42:15 PM new
I agree, Bear. lol They don't WANT to talk about that.
=======
kiara, AS USUAL, YOU took the thread OFF TOPIC and right on to another topic that faults three other countries ON MODERN DAY SLAVERY.
THAT is NOT what this thread is about.
BUT as usual you just CAN'T post TO topic....but you sure can find articles to bring up a NEW topic that is NEGATIVE towards the U.S.
I brought the other up to point out to you that YOUR country has the SAME problems. I put it in the form of a question, yes.
Because YOU NEVER thought about starting your OWN thread about modern day slavery. Nope....that WASN'T your intent.
While I KNOW my intent was VERY CLEAR\
But I was really hoping to hear opinions about whether other posters really believed passing these kind of 'non binding statements' would change anything HERE, in AMERICA to ease the tensions between OUR blacks ...to ease racial tensions, etc. HERE in AMERICA.

Linda, there are no rules about posting only to the wishes of the person starting the topic, no matter what their intent is. It's called freedom of thought and expression by others.
If you didn't agree with me posting to this topic why didn't you say so at first instead of asking the question about whether Anderson Cooper reported on Canada?
Or are you now complaining after I answered because once again I was honest about Canada sharing a problem and once again you are outraged because you would much rather see me deny it or keep quiet?
I don't make excuses for Canada when it comes to human trafficking, health care, the homeless or any other issue that should be addressed and it's about time you realized that.
Women in the U.S. still have not achieved equality with men, and the disparities in women’s status among states has not improved. This is the conclusion reached by The 2002 Status of Women in the States report from the Institute for Women’s Policy research. Many important problems and obstacles to women’s well-being still remain, including the lack of many of the legal guarantees that would enable women to achieve economic and political equality.
The best states for women are Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, Connecticut, Washington, Alaska, Maine, and New Hampshire. The worst are Indiana, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
The report ranks states on 30 factors of women’s status as well as these five areas of overall status: political participation, employment and earnings, social and economic autonomy, reproductive rights, and health and well-being.
WHAT DID I TELL YA THE OLD WOMAN LOVES TO GET BEAT UP SO SHE MOVES TO ARKANSAS ONE OF THE WORST STATES FOR WOMEN.

Linda, we most likely address different aspects of a topic because our minds are more open and we allow our thoughts to flow freely because we aren't under the control of anyone.
We haven't allowed ourselves to become enslaved by an inept leader or his followers so please bear with us as we exercise our freedom of speech.

sure kiara....sure. LOL LOL LOL
Just like the change that the liberals have made here in NOT posting where they get their garbage from.
Yep...lots of NEGATIVE changes that the liberals who can't or won't abide by the 'general' rules of posting that USED to be quite efficiently applied here.
Now it's total CHAOS....all because the liberals can't have NORMAL discussions. CIVIL discussions. Now I agree it's like the Madd Hatters Tea Party CHILDRENS story....all because of the liberals who CAN'T allow it to function as it used to.
You've all pretty much taken a fairly good place to post opinions and turned it into what liberals feel more comfortable with.....a childs sandbox.
shame on all of you.

Bear, you're right, there were slaves in the north, but not nearly as many. The northern states' economies weren't dependent on slaves, unlike the south. Slavery was also virtually non-existant in the north by the Civil War. The last northern state to officially ban slavery was New Jersey, which did so in 1804. The revolution really killed slavery in the north. The Brits encouraged slaves to run away and freed them whenever they were encountered during incursions. At the same time, the northern states' governments offered freedom to slaves who would join state militias and fight the Brits. Since there was so much more military activity in the north than in the south during the revolution, the north's slave population was decimated very early.
I think the northern states ought to apologize for it too.
