Nope, they're not going to do it - Senate Democrats won't even think about cutting billions of dollars from President Bush's war funding request, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday.
He spoke after Democrats on the Senate Budget Committee overruled a proposal to cut $20 billon from President Bush's $142-billion military spending request.
"Our caucus feels strongly that we should go with the president's numbers" on 2008 war costs, said Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) who floated the idea. The speed with which Democrats shot down the idea reflects the Democrats' sensitivity to how it would look if they cut funds for troops in battle, the Boston Globe reported.

Also Saturday, three U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb that exploded while they were on patrol in central Baghdad, the military said.
Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, under mounting U.S. pressure to take greater responsibility for security, said he will reshuffle his Cabinet in coming days.
"The reshuffle will be either this week or next week," al-Maliki told The Associated Press in an interview in Baghdad's heavily protected Green Zone.
He also threatened to order the arrest of parliament members and other political leaders suspected of supporting extremists.
Also Saturday, a top adviser to Iraq's Defense Ministry was kidnapped in western Baghdad, said an aide to Adnan al-Dulaimi, the head of the largest Sunni bloc in parliament.
Since 'waco' appears to be thrilled each day when he's able to list the number of troops we've lost....I thought maybe he might do the same when the deaths don't occur OR when they're dramatically REDUCED.

Was the "lull" before or after these three Americans were killed ? I hope their loved ones don't know that some think their soldier was "lulled" to death.....

I have YET to see you say ANYTHING positive about the accomplishments of our troops...OR their missions.
I believe it's because they don't mean much to you. They sure do to me.

As of January 12, 2007, for Americans there are 500 major amputees due to the Iraq War. Toes and fingers aren't counted.
As of September 30, 2006, 725 American troops have had limbs amputated from wounds received in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A 2006 study by Walter Reed Medical Center, which serves more critically injured soldiers than most VA hospitals, concluded that 62 percent of patients there had suffered a brain injury.

Advances in several areas help save LIVES in Iraq and Afghanistan......therefore we have more that live...but with injuries.
For soldiers injured in combat today, the survival rate is 90 percent or higher--a significant improvement even since the Gulf War in the early 1990s, according to Col. W. Bryan Gamble, M.D., Commander of Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.
Dr. Gamble credits advances in three key areas with improving the outcomes of combat injuries:
Personal Protective Equipment:
Incorporated into vests, new composite material plates are capable of stopping high-velocity rounds, making previously fatal chest wounds survivable.
Standard equipment for each soldier now includes an individual "one-handed" tourniquet, allowing prompt action to reduce blood loss.
New bandages impregnated with clotting products are also being used to stop bleeding from severe injuries.
Casualty Treatment and Evacuation:
Forward Surgical Teams provide life-saving surgical treatment, often reaching injured personnel within minutes.
In addition to saving soldiers who would otherwise bleed to death, the rapid response provided by these teams sets the stage for further damage control, surgery, and rehabilitation.
Once their condition has stabilized, casualties are efficiently and systematically transferred to the next level of care and more specialized treatment.
Critical Care Air Transport Teams provide rapid evacuation of injured personnel--most reach Landstuhl within 24 hours, and are on their way to U.S. military treatment facilities within 48 to 72 hours.
Medical Care Advances:
Specific medical advances include "directed and purposeful" use of blood products, measures to protect against hypothermia, aggressive surgery to prevent damaging compartment syndromes, and improvements in ventilator design and technology.
Weekly video teleconferences allow close and ongoing communication between doctors on the battlefield, at Landstuhl, and in U.S. treatment facilities.
In addition, a trauma registry system has been set up to record and analyze the types of injuries that occur, thus allowing improvements in management.
War has been a constant in human history, and doctors and surgeons have stood by to provide care for injured soldiers.
Over the years, the need to provide urgent care for devastating combat injuries has led to many new advances in medical care for the population at large.
Today, accumulated advances in technology, military organization, and medical and surgical care have lead to unprecedented improvements in the chances of surviving combat injuries.
"We stand on the next great leap forward of medicine for generations to come," Col. Gamble concludes.

You might argue that if the Democrats refused to fund the war that a responsible leader would immediately bring the troops home. But in this case we know that Bush is not a responsible leader and without funds he would not have a problem continuing the war even though the troops would not receive the benefit of sufficient funds. You see, to him they are just expendable fodder.
So, Democrats, in making the decision to fund the war are being responsible. We cannot rely on Bush to make the right and courageous decision.

....and WON'T stop funding the wars so that our troops would be coming home.
I'd think it might make you feel impotent, once again, that they're NOT willing to do what you'd like them to do.
