I dont know how long the HK govt has been subsidising health care ,but this land creation is an ongoing thing.
Ocean front property is very much sought after, some of the 5 stars hotels are built on those properties.
Interesting you mention San Fran, same idea.

That which has made some weak and crazy has made me bold.
I've become hot and bold and resolute!
LOL! That is cute, really!
And, again going OT here, where is Kraftdinner?
I haven't looked all the way through here, but I think she is missing from here? And Maggie? And the Profe? Ginger and Maryanne..... LOL!
No,seriously, are these guys still posting here?
This board has changed! The format and all! It really has been a long time since I have been here!
Hwahwa makes some good points about insurance.
I do believe those that cannot afford medical care, we do need to do something, but at the same time, like I mentioned, I don't want to lose our insurance, and we gladly pay for this type that we do have. I'm sure there are a lot of others who wouldn't want to lose theirs either.
I want to see the plan of nationalized or whatever it is called, medicine. I have a feeling it is coming for our country, but there are certain things that I think do not have to change.
I really need to change this stupid sig line or banner or whatever it is I did long ago!

I was posting to the article Linda linked. The people in that post were described as mostly elderly on SS or Disability. The survivors of Katrina are a cross-section of people--from teachers, nurses, other professionals to street walkers, and welfare families. They are all fellow human beings who survived a horribly traumatic experience and needed help. IMO,you cannot decide who gets help and who doesn't based on their work histories. Maybe they should have let all the Welfare people drown or die of dehydration. They are worthless, right? Last time I checked, being on Welfare was not a capital crime.

OMG, we better pull our troops out of New Orleans right away. It is way too dangerous for them there.
At least that's what the demomorons would do.
Frankly, it's time for the citizens of N.O. to get off of their collective rear ends and get to work fixing their city. The demomorons complain about Iraq's government not taking control. Look at N.O. and it's worse. The demomoron leadership is still failing N.O. and it is painfully obvious.

If it's called common sense, why do so few Demomorons have it?

Hi, Nearthesea!
I seldom post here now. Lots of good people that we knew from previous years do not or rather cannot post here under the current circumstances. Disrespective remarks are all that you will find here most days...silly insults and some not so silly.
It's just not a pleasant place to be now. The only poster among those that you mentioned who still posts here occasionally is Profe. And that is because he has an extraordinary sense of humor.
Maybe your presence will improve the climate here.

And they were given help. lol They were relocated to safer places....and her income would be NO different had katrina never happened. So the point you continue whining about is moot.
"IMO,you cannot decide who gets help and who doesn't based on their work histories."
And they DIDN'T base it on that. Again...arguing a point that has no relevance to the help they WERE given.
"Maybe they should have let all the Welfare people drown or die of dehydration. They are worthless, right? Last time I checked, being on Welfare was not a capital crime."
Hysterical rantings.....
Some people were murdered by doctors rather than let them drown. NOT because of any of the silliness you've posted though.
YOU obviously haven't watched any of the programs about those who are still sitting on their rear ends, refusing to help themselves. Still collecting additional funding because they supposedly just can't find work.
Your limited focus on the elderly who were relocated to trailer parks shows you don't think they should be happy/thankful with what they WERE given. What they DO have.
Never enough for the liberals. Never.
edited to add a point the article made:
"Renaissance Village, with 565 trailers about 100 miles northwest of New Orleans, is the Taj Mahal of FEMA parks, said Carol Spruell of Catholic Charities. Unlike some others, it has a basketball court, a tent for community activities, laundry rooms and a playground. Volunteer groups provide health care, mental health services and educational services."
It also says it's going to TAKE TIME to relocate those who are still living there.
Try reading how volunteers ARE helping them....in many ways. Some are just NEVER satisfied .... some are NEVER grateful for the help they HAVE been given..they just want more.

Linda--YOU posted that article about these speicific people and I responded to that. My post was not addressing the whole situation--just your link. Clear?

YOUR arrogance never ceases to amaze me. Everyone is an idiot except Linda. Again, I was addressing that specific link you posted.
"Hysterical rantings" I doubt I have ever posted an hysterical ranting. I leave that up to you--the Queen of Hysteria.
If you are so against helping ingrates, why aren't you opposed to pouring billions into Iraq. They don't want us there, they hate us and they are not at all "grateful" for anything the US has done.

Yes, I posted that link, CC.
To SHOW how they're never grateful with the help they ARE given....always want more....more....more
I'd bet that their lives in this NEW trailer community are much improved from what they lived in in NO......housing projects.
THAT was why I posted the article....but the reality of the situation is there are still WAY too many who aren't helping themselves....even with all the help they have been given.
And I see your posts as hysterical when you bring up all that ridiculous garbage:
"IMO,you cannot decide who gets help and who doesn't based on their work histories. Maybe they should have let all the Welfare people drown or die of dehydration. They are worthless, right?"
You MAKE up things that have never happened and never would...and which have NEVER been said.

Again, changing the subject.
CC, why don't you tell us what YOU would do with these people that were fortunate to live in a country where they ARE taken care of....NOT left to just find their own way...NOT left in the streets.
Do you think we should buy them cars so they can travel out of the trailer park?
Just how 'cramped' do YOU really think a single-wide trailer is for ONE person? Do you think the taxpayers would have put them up in 3000 sq ft homes for ONE person?
Tell us how YOU could have done MORE for them than was done.
Do you honestly think that since ONE elderly women wants to go 'home'...but has no home to return to....the gov. OWES her more than what they've already done, are already doing?
Do you EVER read any of hwahwa's posts....where it's pointed out that those who 'don't have' find other ways to get their needs met?

You call it hysterical, I call it irony.
"Tell us how YOU could have done MORE for them than was done."
Requiring job training, for those who can work and encouraging healthy survivors to actively look for jobs is one possibility.
Do you honestly think that since ONE elderly women wants to go 'home'...but has no home to return to....the gov. OWES her more than what they've already done, are already doing?"
One elderly woman? I would venture to say you should multiply that by thousands. There may be nothing else that can be done for this elderly woman and others like her, but your shocking lack of sympathy and understanding of her plight boggles my mind. Because someone tells you what their life is like post Katrina, does not mean they are ungrateful. A trialer is certainly better than being homeless. This woman, at the end of her life, is isolated and separated from everything and everyone she ever knew. She has gone through hell over the last 2 years. She is in misery. Life means more than a roof over your head. I have not posted that these survivors should be given mansions, maids, fur coats TV's or any such nonsense as you posted. I can and do feel sad that this woman has such an unhappy end to her life. How do you know she did not break her back working 2 or 3 jobs to survive in this world. It is your attitude that bugs the crap out of me---completely unsympathetic, unempathetic and very bitter. You are so afraid that someone will get something for nothing, you have lost your humanity.

Coincoach it's just another example of linduh's total lack of logic and her total hatred for America and Americans.
She doesn't mind spending billions in Iraq slaughtering and maiming Americans who are allegedly fighting for Iraqis who are mostly Muslims.
linduh says all Muslims want to kill us.
So, according to linduh, it's wonderful to spend money slaughtering Americans for those SHE considers enemies but just awful that a penny of her money would help an AMERICAN in need.
And she calls liberals un-American ?????

LOL.....oh first you want to ONLY discuss the people in my story. THEN now, you don't want to....you want to discuss ALL the victims, just as a couple of us WERE doing when you continued reminding us that my article had spoken about these FEW. LOL LOL
Make up your mind.
Some victims WERE required to work 20 hours to receive benefits. Again, you show your lack of knowledge on most subjects.
And while you continue lying about MY positions, FALSELY stating then as YOU see them, you're wrong.
The difference between bleeding heart liberals and conservatives is generally WHO will be providing what for whom.
Every time something happens liberals RUN to nanny gov. to make EVERYTHING right. I'm saying that because of people just like hwahwa these same people can be helped WITHOUT gov. intervention.
THAT is what you refuse to see. It's NOT that I or others like me don't think these people need any help. We just KNOW how things use to be run BEFORE liberals starting putting everything under gov. control....and then complaining about it not being done properly....or not ever being enough. lol
Liberals have TRAINED people they cannot do things for themselves. Trained people to not turn to family/friends/their community but RATHER....run to big brother.
The women in the article is like thousands of those from NO....they aren't in any worse circumstances NOW than they were BEFORE katrina hit. IF they don't have ONE living person in the world they can turn to in order to receive transportation of some sort....then they've got more problems than being old and poor.
The communities they've set up sure sound like plenty of help is available....but they STILL want more more more. Never satisfied with what they've been given.
And liberals like yourself, only encourage this dependence.

And then while trying to help those who are TRULY needy....we taxpayers see how many are so willing to commit FRAUD upon the gov. system.
Yea, let's have a gov. run health insurance program so that MORE can find additional ways to defraud the taxpayers - just like what happens in ALL gov. run programs.
But liberals fight Christian groups that automatically reach out to help those in need - by volunteering their time/effort/energy for FREE - only asking to have help from the gov. for purchases/etc that are coming out of their pockets. NOPE, can't have them receiving ANY monies to help these needy people. When they do it much better and for much less cost than ANY gov. agency could EVER do.
Just like everything else....the liberals ONLY answer to everything is for the gov. to make it better. Teaching generations to not turn to other humans just like hwahwa for help. NOT turning to family and friends to help them. NOT turning to religious groups to help them. NOPE....only BIG BROTHER.
edited to add: MANY things the democrats SHOULD have been taking care of BEFORE katrina....weren't being dealt with. Then along comes katrina and things are made worse. And some think the elderly who have been placed in SAFE conditions should be 'returned home' just because they want to be. lol
Yea, then they can be complaining about how unsafe their drinking water is.

Something that has been reported in the news as being a requirement for 'whatever' is NOT an opinion. It's something that actually happened - something that took place.
Try and grasp the difference. Your false and continuing false claims are juvenile and only proves your lack of knowledge on many different subjects.
You opinion differing from mine, NEVER changes any facts. ROFLOL

Over 60 Percent of Corporations Didn’t Pay Taxes
Large Firms Dodged Federal Taxes From 1996-2000 As Profits Soared
By JOHN D. MCKINNON, Wall Street Journal
WASHINGTON - More than 60% of U.S. corporations didn’t pay any federal taxes for 1996 through 2000, years when the economy boomed and corporate profits soared, the investigative arm of Congress reported.
The disclosures from the General Accounting Office are certain to fuel the debate over corporate tax payments in the presidential campaign. Corporate tax receipts have shrunk markedly as a share of overall federal revenue in recent years. By 2003, they had fallen to just 7.4% of overall federal receipts, the lowest rate since 1983, and the second-lowest rate since 1934, federal budget officials say.
The report examined a sample of tax information for the years 1996 through 2000; for 2000, it covered about 2.1 million returns filed by U.S.-controlled corporations and 69,000 filed by foreign-controlled corporations. It showed that big companies — defined as those with at least $250 million in assets or $50 million in gross receipts — were more likely to pay taxes than smaller ones. Still, the GAO said 45.3% of large U.S.-controlled companies and 37.5% of large foreign-controlled companies had no tax liability in 2000. More than 35% paid less than 5% of their income.
The basic federal corporate-tax rate for big corporations is 35%. But the federal tax code also offers many credits and loopholes that allow many companies to pay far less than that.
The GAO analysis of Internal Revenue Service data comes as tax avoidance by both U.S. and foreign companies also is drawing increased scrutiny from the IRS and Congress. But more so than similar previous reports, the analysis suggests that dodging taxes, both legally and otherwise, has become deeply rooted in U.S. corporate culture. The analysis found that even more foreign-owned companies doing business in the U.S. — about 70% of them — reported that they didn’t owe any U.S. federal taxes during the late 1990s.
“Too many corporations are finagling ways to dodge paying Uncle Sam, despite the benefits they receive from this country,” said Sen. Carl Levin (D., Mich.), who requested the study along with Sen. Byron Dorgan (D., N.D.). “Thwarting corporate tax dodgers will take tax reform and stronger enforcement.”
The new report also could spur further IRS action against tax-shelter peddlers and their customers. The IRS is closely examining tax-shelter deals sold by accounting firms such as KPMG LLP, for example. That firm recently experienced a management shake-up in response to the inquiry.
Conservatives depicted the GAO report as an argument for tax-code overhaul for both corporations and individuals. Dan Mitchell, a fellow at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, also noted in corporations’ defense that they have an obligation to shareholders to pay as little tax as they legally can.

1. I never said I don't have time to keep up with the news, just every detail of every bit of news in the world. There are times when I do not have all the information, but then I don't know everything like you think you do. I am not afraid to admit when I don't know something, like you are. The subjects of these posts are not my whole world by a long shot.
2. You said I have a lack of knowledge of most subjects. How the hell would you know that. I have only discussed a few subjects here. Like to try me on literature, anatomy, physiology, history, cooking, and many other sujects. I am not obsessed with politics as you are.
3. If you were to compare my posts with yours, 99% of my posts have no insults and 99% of yours do. I am not going to sit here and let you rant, misquote and insult without responding, at least until I get tired of doing so.
I don't think I know everything. I only post about what I am familiar with, so unlike you.
#2 "You said I have a lack of knowledge of most subjects. How the hell would you know that."

#3 I disagree with your percentages. Surprise, surprise. Especially your personal name calling. Just look to your posts vs mine in this thread alone...will be MY proof. You still don't get it. What I post is a tiny fraction of the "subjects" in this world. My use of the word hell gives you the vapors, but you don't mind one of your friends using the "C" word. LOL LOL and tsk tsk.
"Especially your personal name calling. Just look to your posts vs mine in this thread alone...will be MY proof"
Here is another insult--you are delusional. You have insulted me directly (in this thread and others) and you have insulted liberals in general. If I said everyone who lives in Arkansas is stupid, would you consider that an insult even though it was not directed to you? Try your bull on someone else.

"but you don't mind one of your friends using the "C" word."
And as other LIBERALS here have said....THEY are not responsible for what OTHERS posts. Is this ANOTHER double standard from the left?
PROVE that lie. Again you speak FOR me when you have NO CLUE as to what you're saying. lol
And on anyone making slurs about people who live in AR, and many liberals here have done just that ....NO, I would NOT take it personally. LOL I see the people in AR around me much differently than most idiots who make their very hate filled statements about them do. They're the idiots not those who live in AR. It's their lack of knowledge that causes them to post such insulting posts about the people here.
That YOU take everything I say personally is YOUR problem. I don't personally 'claim' insults made about the actions of others. LOL When and IF they're directed right AT me....then it might bother me. Most of the time I just consider the source....lol....a liberal's saying it.
NOW are we done? Or do you just have a need today to continue on with your pettiness?
As far as me replying? Are you like kaira in that YOU have to have the last word? Just say so....I'll stop giving you all this attention you so crave.
