"It's a moment in time that may never be recaptured and it would be terrible if, years later, it was tainted by the reality of where they had been or what they had done or who they had become since then. Perhaps Cohen feels that way about Suzanne".

Kiara, how true. And by Cohen not acknowledging Suzanne the last time they crossed, perhaps it's now the way Suzanne feels about Cohen. My perception of him has certainly changed.

fruscia---your info came from a website called Death by 1000 Papercuts. They describe themselves as "A rip-snortin' gang of hard-living right wing cutthroats." Not exactly an unbiased opinion, eh?

Kiara asked

Vintageu, perhaps I missed it but could you provide a link to a legitimate source showing that Drummond Pike was once a member of the Weather Underground?

Fruscia, I found that site before I made my comment to Vintageu and discounted it as a reputable source. Try harder.

Pixiamom, my perception of Cohen hasn't changed at all. I was only surmising on how he may think. I'm not sure how to say this right but if that's the way he really feels, perhaps a person has to have a similar experience to understand it and they wouldn't fault him for it at all. Regardless, the man and his poetry have fascinated me off and on for years.

Kiaradiscounted it as a reputable source

Well you can do that BUT it is a reputable source and if you go deep enough in it you will find out many things. Also Drummond Pike has ties to Acorn Canada. Try a reputable search engine and find the facts. He is deep into the radical group and maybe you think that he is good well read on. Just because you say it isn't reputable doesn't make it so. The websites I visited tonight say something different.

Thanks Kiara for bringing the good music and poetry of Leonard Cohen to our attention! The first song that you posted, Hallelujah is one of my favorites. Now might be a good time to play "Closing Time".

I read recently that Cohen who is now 75, collapsed on stage during a concert in Spain.

Next month he has a concert scheduled in Florida.

It's good that we don't judge the value of an artist's work with his personal life as part of the criteria.

If no one has noticed, virtually all posters who may have held a contrary view to the liberal view of the day, has been driven from the board.

Exactly how does one go about being "driven from the board"?

Not feeling the victim or anything are we?

Wow!

There is another such right wing extremist site which is occassionally seriously involved with threats of assassination. Even Drudge drops his link to their site occassionally when the "cuthroats" threaten assassination.

These creeps have also surmised that God is on their side and that he too can't wait to take care of their intended victim and his wife.

Fruscia, I don't have to go deep to discredit that site and I have no desire to return to it. Obviously you and I have different ideas of what we consider reputable sources for information. Remember, just because you can find something on the googlenets, it doesn't make it true.

I agree, Helen. Many artists have a dark and destructive side to them that eventually destroys them. Cohen has survived and still has such a strong following at the age of 75, including so many young people who are discovering him through their parents and sometimes their grandparents now.

Kiara You seem so angry, perhaps it's frustrating that others don't agree with your beliefs or fall into line and you are beginning to fear them?

I am not angry, frustrated only upset that people cannot see what is happening. But of course we will disagree because that is how we have discussions.

I have one question and it is a big one asked my many. Why is the President trying to do everything at once. He is in for 4 maybe more years. Many of the programs he is endorsing involves all the the US citizens. Not just part of them. The changes he is making are molding lives forever. This should be bipartisian.

One of my problems is the reversal of Sen.E.Kennedys senate seat. Another one is the President telliing the NY Govenor to not run. He is inserting himself in state politics. Which I feel is wrong.

This is my opinion for what it is worth.

"After the insults stop, all that remains is wannabe liberals who use the same old tired phrases of the leftists."

The old liberal wannabees on this board share the thoughts of these stalwarts of democracy -

"The contradiction between the revolutionary peoples of Asia, Africa and
Latin America and the imperialists headed by the United States is the
principal contradiction in the contemporary world. The development of
this contradiction is promoting the struggle of the people of the whole
world against US imperialism and its lackeys." From New Left Notes, June 18, 1969.

http://www.antiauthoritarian.net/sds_wuo/weather/weatherman_document.txt

What a great example of the rhetoric used by the old tired liberals who post here.

Further, check out some of the names. Where are they now?

Are they part of any group being funded by the Tides, et al. organizations?

Additional writings by these great americans that the liberals on this board want us to bend a knee to -

"All over the world, people fighting Amerikan imperialism look to
Amerika's youth to use our strategic position behind enemy lines to join
forces in the destruction of the empire." May 21, 1970.

http://www.antiauthoritarian.net/sds_wuo/weather/wuo_communique_1.txt

"Tonight, at 7 P.M., we blew up the N.Y.C. police headquarters. We called
in a warning before the explosion." June 9, 1970.

http://www.antiauthoritarian.net/sds_wuo/weather/wuo_communique_2.txt

"With other revolutionaries all over the planet, Weatherman is
celebrating the 11th anniversary of the Cuban revolution. Today we
attack with rocks, riots and bombs the greatest killer-pig ever known to
man—Amerikan imperialism." July 26, 1970.

http://www.antiauthoritarian.net/sds_wuo/weather/wuo_communique_3.txt

"Now we are at war.

With the NLF and the North Vietnamese, with the Democratic Front for the
Liberation of Palestine and Al Fatah, with Rap Brown and Angela Davis,
with all black and brown revolutionaries, the Soledad brothers and all
prisoners of war in Amerikan concentration camps we know that peace is
only possible with the destruction of U.S. imperialism." September 15, 1970.

http://www.antiauthoritarian.net/sds_wuo/weather/wuo_communique_4.txt

"Every action that Obama has taken so far has been made in an effort to right the wrongs that are perpetrated on the majority of Americans so that revolutionary movements such as the weathermen organized will not again be needed to rally against racism, sexism, homophobia, classism and imperialism. " helenjw, September 26, 2009.

Now we have the tired old liberals posting here in an attempt to emulate the rhetoric of the thugs who attempted to overthow our governement. These people believed that they were above the laws which protect all of us.

So Glenn Beck has gotten your attention. Seeing that picture I will bet that all countries whether they have National Health or not have people like that. It's a way of life. Health Care will not take care of that. It's a way of life for some people.

If there is anyone that doesn't like Glenn Beck, then I would suggest they don't listen to him. I fear that some posters are crossing over to FNC because I know that MSNBC doesn't post about him. The reason I know that is because I read MSNBC.

Kiara, I still love Cohen's work, but what has he done in the last 20+ years? it appears that he lives off the poems/songs produced during his Bohemian period and has lately contributed little to new poetry. Edited to add: ignoring your original muse who made the bulk of your fortune is not cool.

Pixiamom, this article explains much better than I ever can what Cohen has been doing during his lifetime, including the past 20 years. It doesn't sound like he's been a slacker. Also, his fortune was wiped out by a former manager.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Cohen

ignoring your original muse who made the bulk of your fortune is not cool.

I disagree that Suzanne made the bulk of his fortune. She may have been the inspiration for one song but I think many men and women who crossed his path during his lifetime also inspired him as did the places he lived and his own religious beliefs. He lived on a Greek Island with a lady called Marianne and she helped him out of a depression by giving him a guitar and he was inspired to write Bird on a Wire which is also a great song. No matter where the inspiration came from he had to draw from his own soul and mind the poetry and music that evolved from it.

I'm thinking if he took time to keep steady relationships with everyone that ever inspired him, how would he ever have the isolated time that brought forth all the other great poetry that kept coming from him?

Truthfully, there's a good reason why some people are loners and don't want to deal with past acquaintances that may show up hauling a bunch of mental baggage from their own lives along with them, their souls are already tortured enough ..... ha ha
