Hi hhsales! Sorry that it seems that everyone is giving you a hard time - I think they are just trying to help out...anyway, to put my "2 cents" in - if you have links and eBay finds out about it - believe me from experience from a little over a week ago - they WILL cancel each and everyone of your current auctions! If you DO have current auctions - and you don't have any bids on them yet - please - for your sake - go in each of them to revise them and take out the YooHoo Links. And once they cancel them - you can't just go back in them like you would be re-listing them...they are gone from their data base! If you don't have somewhere to go to Copy and Paste (or perhaps relist from an earlier auction that IS still on their database) - you will have to start from scratch! like I said - I learned this from experience and would hate to see it happen to anyone else...just my "2 cents" and that's all I've got to say - except - HAVE A NICE DAY...! !!

Your $1.00 handling fee was reasonable amount to cover your packing supplies etc---what you did 'illegal' was to assume that this handling fee was to cover Paypal, Ebay fees and to tell your buyer that. That is what you can not do.
Next time state that there'll be a $1.00 handling fee added on to exact postage to be determined at the end of auction when destination is verified.

reddeer-
Sometimes, reading these threads, I get the impression that...
rude = not getting the response I hoped for
I hope saying that is not too rude...

Why thank you ladies, tis always a pleasure waking up to a little sunshine.
I have my own little crisis this morning. High bidder on a $150+ item emails me & tells me payment should be here in a few days, and that he wants the item by next Monday. Let's see, Canada to US in 2-3 days,[if in fact I receive payment that fast?] with Monday being a holiday in the US. Right.
And through all that I still take the time to help a damsel in distress.

Tell him to courier you another $50.00+ in cash and you'll be happy to do the same with his item.
And back to my digression about Tim Horton (ya got to be a Canadian for this)--Life & Times on CBC is doing a Tim Horton bio on Tues at 7:PM and Friday 10:PM (one of those might be Newsworld

One thing to keep in mind is that many sales are passed up because sellers do not accurately list a shipping price. Face it you're not shipping the Valdez honey... It's a back pack. All of about $9.00 at most to ship to the farthest zone. So, list your shipping prices and become an educated seller. I've passed on many tools because of shipping prices that are way too high or out of line so to say. Good luck with the baby, and thanks for bringing us another..

Rude??? Not! I've found everyone to be extremely helpful, and in reading the whole thread found that the confusion was understandable with the facts given. Remember that the opinions given are given by individuals who voluntarily take their time to assist you in understanding the rules (and/or point out where you can read them yourself if it appears you haven't done so prior to selling/buying) - out of the goodness of their hearts, they aren't paid for their time/effort in attempting to answer your questions. I agree with the other posters comments re: s/h charges - if they aren't disclosed, it usually isn't worth my time to write and ask..so I won't bid...too many unpleasant surprises at the EOA - and often the hidden charges are exorbitant! Ie..a seller may be a nice person, but I'm not paying $6 for one to put a small item in a bubble (or worse - manila) envelope and mail it to me for .76 - .99!

hhsales, the first thing I would do is to hit the "my account" tab in the top right corner here, go to "personal information" and change my password. Then tell BIL to get his own ID. You can share a computer without sharing your ID.
Then listen to all of the good advice here. You may think its rude, but it is good advice.

For the REAL hhsales:
If your computer is running Windows and you're sharing it with other people use the built-in Windows Profile tool and give everyone their own login (Start-Settings-ControlPanel-Users) Logoff after you're finished and the next person will need to login with their own settings/ID's/passwords.
Shipping question for the pro's: I move a lot of items that are over 5lbs via Priority Mail. Sometimes I 'guesstimate' when doing my listings and the actual POSTAGE comes out about a dollar less. Or the additional packing materials raises it slightly. It was getting to much of a hassle trying to peg it to the penny before listing so I just started listing with "buyer to pay Priority Mail Shipping". The problem is with over 5lbs the rate is calculated by distant/zone so I won't know until I get the winners address. Is there a better way to handle this?
As far as handling goes I don't understand some of the comments here. Shipping supplies are not cheap. Mail Order companies etc have been charging heavy handling fees for a long time sometimes to the point of abuse. Ever see the s&h fees on CD's from Columbia House?
My last shipment of supplies ran $220 + $80 in S/H.

hhsales,
I charge $4.95 s/h for all my auctions. That is a little over my shipping cost, but I got to pay for ebay and paypal somehow.
This is not illegal, it is a cost of business.
