If I snipe I take my chances. Is it really THAT risky to expect Ebay to be working?

I finally am able to get some items that do well on Ebay which I have not been able to do for quite some time due to financial problems and because they are hard to find and Ebay goes down 45 minutes before they all end. Then when they get it back up then it still is not working properly. Also by the time they got it back up seems all my bidders signed off. I lost quite alot of money due to this. I didn't want to end these auctions early as I didn't think that was fair to my bidders. I am just so mad I am seeing red. I am an MCP (microsoft certified professional). Although I am still in school working towards my MCSE (microsoft certified systems engineer) I still know enough to know that this outage was ridiculous! I see no reason as to why Ebays outages are so frequent and for so long. They should be able to promote their backup systems to primary in less than 5 minutes. There backup systems should also be able to provide more reliable service than the ones they used last night. This is ridiculous...I think they need new engineers.

Am not sure where I am going with this but because someone bids at the end doesn't mean they are snipers. I don't snipe (mainly because I suck at it. LOL) but there have been times when I do a search for something and see the item near closing and get excited and bid. With that, I didnt place a proxy bid because I didnt see the auction until the end. And in that case, the seller does lose out if eBay goes down.

We all like to get a bargain. That's why we like the auction format. One of the items I lost last night was a $300+ item that I had been wanting and for several months. I've bid on several but they have always gone for just under $200.00.

Last week I found one that was in a off base catagory. I was the only bidder as of 3 days ago and as of Last night when Ebay went down I was STILL the only bidder at $55.56. I was outbid (perhaps through EBAY UK) by .44 CENTS!!!!!!!

Should I go BUY ONE RETAIL and charge EBAY THE DIFFERENCE??

I know I can't do that but I'd sure LIKE to.

Somebody PLEASE update us on what EXACTLY Ebays OUTAGE policy is.

I thought if EBAY went down all auctions closing during the outage were extended 24 hours.

Niether of the ones I bid on were extended.

Upriver says:
"What is old is the whining of bidders who wait until the very last minute to place their bids.

If you want to snipe every auction you bid on, then there is obviously going to be a risk that, a) the site might be down, b) your local server might be down, c) the seller might pull their auction rather than watch it go down in flames

So why complain about it? It's your choice not to place a proxy bid at a sensible time during the 7 days the auction was available!~"

First of all I NEVER said I sniped every item I bid on (you must have pulled that out of the air to lend credability to your arrguement) . Quite the contrary I said I placed a bid DAYS earier.

To answer the question "why complain about it" the answer is because while EBAY DOES go down It is NOT SUPPOSED to go down so regularly that bidders should make that a major consideration when bidding.

Is this board only for people who find no fault with EBAY no matter what they do or to find any reason, no matter how ill concieved or rediculous, to tell bidders and sellers that THEY are somehow at fault.

I lost 2 auctions last night because EBAY went down that I would have had a FAIR CHANCE to win if EBAQY did NOT go down.

All I'm asking for is a FAIR CHANCE. How is that wrong??

Saying, "well you shoulda this" or "well you coulda that" is irrelevent.
IF EBAY is operating the way they are supposed to opperate I should'nt have to worry about shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Yeah and in PERFECT world, I wouldn't have to work. So your point is? So why worry at all?

Ebay goes down periodically, no planning (except for Scheduled Maintenance and "Preventive" Maintinance) so now you know this are you going to adjust?
It should never go down, but any savvy computer user knows that is just not possible and as far as back up, well I haven't seen it yet.

Nobody said anything about "perfect. Be reasonable.

Besides in a perfect world you would still have to work.

If you were late to work and your boss asked "why" and you say, "well there was a really bad accident on the way in this morning right in front of me. People were hurt pretty bad and I had to help get them out of their cars then the police wanted me to tell them what happened". That's why I'm late.

In a, so called "perfect world", your boss would say " Wow, That's too bad. Are the people OK? Are YOU ok? you did the right thing. Don't worry about being late".

In the Auctionwatch world that's just upriver your boss would say, "WHY DID YOU GO THAT WAY TO WORK!!?? EVERYBODY KNOWS THERE ARE ACCIDENTS ON THAT ROAD ALL THE TIME BECAUSE THE LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION GOES OUT SOMETIMES!! YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ANOTHER ROUTE THEN YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE ON TIME. YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WORK LATE TONIGHT TO MAKE UP FOR THE TIME YOU WASTED AND THAT'S THAT. NOW GET TO WORK!"

Which world would you rather live in?

Why do some here work so hard at busting ba!!s?
