In my humble opinion---it really doesn't matter who leaves it when.

In every transaction you are going to have two people who do things in different ways to complete the sale--

Just leave your feedback in the method and time that YOU are comfortable with--the the heck with how anyone feels you SHOULD be leaving it. Stop sweating the small stuff.

aramatha, sorry, I was refering to the fact that you current method of leaving feedback right away is getting less return feedback. I was trying to indicate that buyers may not be leaving any feedback because they are tired of getting sellers who say they will leave feedback after the buyer has.

It was not a comment on either of you methods, only an observation from a buyers prospective.

cix, what if the person you are working with has the same policy of not leaving feedback until they get feedback? If everyone did this, there would be no feedback. I don't think that would work very well.

I have several reasons for thinking that all feedback should wait until the transaction is complete. First, As a seller, I have recieved a little more than half the number of FB's that I have left. I used to leave feedback as soon as I received Payment...more than once this turned out to be a big mistake. The worst time was when I had one buyer ask for a refund saying the item was not as described, I told him to return it for a refund. When I got it back , it wasn't the one I had sent , I informed him this litle ruse wasn't going to work, reported him to safe harbor and sent his item back COD, However, I had already left Positive Feedback and since this buyer didn't leave me any either way, I could not respond. I now include this sentence in my Item Shipped Notice... Please take a moment to leave my feedback after you recieve the item and I will be sure to do the same for you. Since handling FB's this way I get feedback from 98% of my buyers.

Simple:

Leave feedback when the transaction is complete

The deal is complete after the buyer gets the item and any issues are resolved. One way for you to know this is for the buyer to leave you postive feedback. They can also send you an email say they are pleased. You don't have to wait for the buyer to leave FB first, but you should wait for an email saying everything is OK.

Were any of you taught about "Thank you" notes? Just because your sister doesn't send you a thank you note for a gift, do you teach your children not to send her one for their gifts? I should hope not.
Hey cix...do you wait to send out Christmas cards to people until after they send you one?
This is basic ettiquite. Thank someone for living up to their end of the bargain. Sellers should leave feedback upon receipt of payment. Buyers should leave feedback upon receipt of merchandise.

I agree with all the sellers who wait for the buyer to leave feedback first. When the buyer goes first, you as a seller know they are completely satisfied. Positive comments are very important to me and I take feedback profiles seriously. You can't always depend on your buyer to contact you first with a problem. Some just look for an excuse to tag you with a (-). Also, when you're moving a lot of items weekly, it's more difficult to keep up with every transaction. As a buyer, even if you are involved in a lot of deals, you're probably only going to receive your items one at a time, maybe two, at the most. It's much easier to track your sellers this way. When you're packing 5-10 items daily, you're more worried about getting them out ASAP. As the seller, my main focus is getting the product to the buyer as fast as I can. If feedback is left, fine. If not, I don't worry about it. Like they say, no news is good news!

As a seller I almost always leave feedback as soon as payment arrives (yes I've been burned doing that - but it's just easier for me organizational-wise). The only time I don't is if I have really bad vibes about the buyer.

As a buyer, I leave feedback after the seller leaves it for me. If the seller has not left it for me by the time I get my item, I email them and tell them I received the item and am pleased. But I will not leave fb until they do. I was severely burned by a seller - I paid for the item the day after the auction, received the item, emailed the seller that all was well, and posted positive fb for them. Several weeks later they negged me, filed NPB, and FVF for non-payment. Ebay did step in and removed my warning (but not the neg) and the seller is now NARU.

Just my 2 cents!

Point blank - I grow weary of hearing that statement. But what's a girl to do[?], there will always be [newbie sellers and bidders] with juxtapose feedback ideas not related to realism. W@W did I say that!

I'd wager that if if there was "no feedback left," eBay would change the system for the better - and quick! Therefore, I hope it happens, no more feedback under the current flawed system.

I like the feature of Yahoo's feedback where it goes on and on and on and on, until the parties are worn out!

At the very least why couldn't eBay allow for modification of feedback. Humans can, and do, change their minds, don't they?

As a seller, I leave feedback as soon as payment is made, and I invoice the customer. It's just easier, and I think the seller should leave feedback first.

As a buyer, I leave it in blocks. I will go through my auctions at one time, and leave feedback on lots that I received. I'm sure I miss some, but I think as a seller it is pretty much mandatory to leave feedback (esp. if you want repeat business) but as a buyer, it is less crucial

I agree with Zazzie. It doesn't matter. I also agree with Morgantown, that sellers are starting to realize that the deal isn't necessarily done when payment arrives.

As seller (about a dozen items), I would post fb when I saw the buyer completed his/her part of the deal. Which would not be right after recieving pmt unless that pmt was by personal check, in which case I'd usually wait until the check cleared. I often shipped upon receiving check. I'm not afraid of retaliatory negs from unreasonables. So what?

As buyer (several hundred items) I don't bother leaving fb to a seller for who didn't bother leaving me any. This year I haven't been prompt about it at all, so once in a while I go through fb received to catch up. If there isn't any in there from a seller, he gets none. This works great for me.

On fb in general; I read a post where someone was miffed about recieving a nuetral. Umm.. if this whole fb thing worked in theory instead of practice, that's mostly what anyone would get. Positive should be reserved for really terrific transactions. Most are ho hum and should be nuetral. But since practice is what it is...

As a seller I always leave feedback when the payment is received....that seems fair and the right practice. As a buyer, I leave feedback when item is received.
These seem to be the right order of the "protocol".

Why would a seller only leave feedback AFTER feedback has been left for them? Feedback is your impression of the buyer or seller, and shouldn't be interpretted as "If you give me feedback, I'll give you feedback". That seems rather childish to me!!!

What bugs me about feedback is I will get a thank you but no feedback,or the bidder begs for feedback and then does not leave me any.
I always leave it when I receive a payment except when get the someone who was very hard to deal with.
