Hi everyone --

AuctionWatch management has been watching all of your feedback to the fees we intend to begin charging on March 14. After evaluating your feedback, we have decided to lower the Final Value Fee cap from $30 per item to $4.95 per item. The reduction in the FVF cap makes our Final Value fee structure more reasonable for those selling high ticket items.

We are currently updating our site to reflect this change.

We will continue to post updates in this forum should anything else change. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback.

You have a big heart Chris - I'm sure that the sellers will be delighted to hear this.

I guess the wife's Porsche will have to be put on hold for awhile eh
[that would be YOUR wife's, not mine]

Not to worry, I just bought the last one for my dentist anyway ...

aren't you supposed to post this in mark's thread or in the service forum.

i expect moderators to give this guy cbarker an informal warning for starting yet another thread related to the fees.

ANY FVF fees you think you have the right to are unexceptable .unlss you have plans on paying for part of the items being sold.and what about a deadbeat auction how did you plan on handleing that aspect of the fvf?

This is sort of like the Bush tax refund. It only helps those at the very top and it probably won't affect AW at all since probably more thatn 99.99 percent of all auctions fall below the $4.95 FVF. Only the BIG TICKET item sellers will benefit.

How about a real compromise? Something that will benefit everyone. Sort of like the flat tax. LOWER THE ONE PERCENT TO ONE HALF PERCENT across the board. AW makes a little and we have an FVF that we can live with.

That's great for those who sell high ticket items...still stinky for those of us who sell low $ items. We are the ones hurt by the fees, not the big sellers.
Those of us who usually sell 50-100 $10.00 - $20.00 items are nickeled and dimed to death. After Ebay, Paypal and PO fees, what's left? I still need to profit a bit..

The $4.95 cap will have no effect on the people that feel you have no right to a percentage of their sale.

I operate ecommerce sites, but I would never consider giving my web hosting company a percentage of my sales. I would laugh at them (as we are laughing at you) for even suggesting it. And fortunately, they have the sense not to ask.

What AW is offering is a service. Acceptable pricing structures are Monthly flat subscriptions (with discount for annual prepayment) or Per Use. (x amount per auction) If you took the pictures for us, collected the money, and shipped the items, I could see paying a commission.

I use an Olympus camera to take pictures for my auctions. Do they have a right to a percentage ??? I can assure you that I make a lot more money on my auctions with pictures than I would if I didn't use pictures. I guess that means they have more right to a percentage than AW.

I can't list auctions without my ISP's connection to the internet. Do they have a right to ask for a percentage ??? If I didn't have an internet connection I couldn't list auctions at all. So they should be first in line to get a commission on my auction sales.

Ooops, almost forgot. I can't list auctions without a computer either. So I guess I should pay a commission for that too. But who do I pay that to ??? The company that made the computer or the company that sold it ??? Or both ???

I guess that puts you number four in line for a cut of my sales. As soon as I start paying the company that made my computer, the company that sold me my computer, the company that made my camera, and my ISP a commission, I promise you will be next on the list. Until then, I guess you're out of luck.

I have resisted posting concerning AW's new fees because I was so upset that they think they are entitled to ANY FVF on my hard earned money. I do not understand what gives then the right to expect this. I do understand the listing fee, and I would have no problem with that. I actually would have no problem with a flat yearly fee if it didn't involve an FVF. I love AW and use AMpro exclusively for all my auctions (since I have now retired from teaching that will add up to aproximately 750 auctions/month), and when I teach other people to list on eBay, I show them with AW. It saddens me that I will not be able to afford to use my favorite program, but I know html and can host my pics elsewhere. I guess it will be back to eBay listing for me.......too bad.

This max reduction on the final value fee only affects "1%" of your members. Still the shaft for the rest of the 99% of us. All defectors - get over to the biggest site that handles auctions on the internet and keep an eye on their announcement board. The pinks are saying they are going to roll out an auction listing service/hosting/templates (the whole shebang) in the next day or two and their plan is a flat $4.99 -$16.99 a month ala-cart service. You can also control the time your auctions launch and end. Join misterlister and you will get a 3 month free subscription. Otherwise you get a 30 day free subscription. Hurry before this one is locked too. Good Luck

I feel the same as the rest. I will pay the fee per auction, you are entitled to compensation for the service you provide. I do not feel it is fair to pay 1% of FVF. Most of my items are $10.00 or under. Much more and my buyers will be paying shipping only.

That's the answer. I will just give everything away and they can pay shipping. Hmmm, No, that won't work, ebay will call it fee avoidance.!

We lose, no matter how we look at this deal.

We're willing to pay for the listing but there ain't no way you're getting any of my FVF EVER!

I survived just fine before without AW and will do so again.

Thanks sueel,
Sounds like another good alternative. I like the idea of having everything in one place.
I will check it out.

I only use AW for the EBay Outlook and to insert 'free' counters in my auctions.
As AW places a promo with the counters I don't see my paying for that privilege. I'll just go to another counter provider.

Let me see if I have this strait. You have capped the FVF at $4.95 so that means if my item sells for more than $495.00 I will be getting a break? I HAVE NEVER SOLD AN ITEM FOR MORE THAN $207.

What good would that do for me? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!

I am going to put on my Hard Hat, *glancing at Diana* and ask a question here. I have used AW to list all of my auctions for lots of months. AW used me to promote their site with advertising on my listings. My auctions, (I have kept track of it just because I like numbers...ok I am weird...I digress....) have had to date, 197,474 hits, and that means that many people saw AW 's ads. Did I get paid anything? NO! did I ask for a FVF because they made a few bucks? NO! It was a trade off and I bet they made more money then I did by my selling bras and suspenders. (just an example) So now, I will pay or would have, for the listing., They have to pay their bills too and I fully understand that. But I do not see where AW drives people to my site to buy these nice bras and suspenders. I use their site to launch, and host my pics and in return, I give them advertising cuz believe me folks, I sell the best bras on Ebay! I do not use any of the other services in the package. So now, for my advertsing for AW, and spreading the good word via bra sales, AW is gonna charge ME to spread the word about them? Sumpin ain't right with this picture. And without my bra's to sell, there are gonna be some pretty *saggy* profits for me.

ROTFLMAO - I never thought about it - I'm not normally wearing my bra when I list (it comes off first when I get i the door) - that must explain my *sagging* sales......

Gonna have to rethink the $%#@ thing....

Jane

btw.....I still won't pay FVF - wil list myself if need be - I can live without convenience - it's not a necessity....

I am going to have to write Oprah a email and ask her or the financial advisor she had on her program how to pay myself first. If you saw her program you would understand...I guess there really isn't any free lunch. The only person that will lose is the Seller....Unless the buyer is ready to pay higher for the widget they are buying which of course is only worth $4.99 but have to pay 5.99 so everyone can get a piece of the pie. Good Luck All......

AW......I think the fact that you're willing to re-evaluate things is a definate mark in your favour.

Now if you would just be realistic and realize that if you charge a flat fee of 5 cents - even 8 cents per listing, and forget the FVF percentage altogether, bet you most of us would stick around.....
