We came home last night and there was a phone call from paypal on the caller ID but no message.
Made me worried since I see all these horror stories here about accounts being frozen.
I looked at both my accounts and nothing was noted as a problem and no e-mail from them.
Have any of you been getting calls to promote their card or anything?

We received a phone call on Saturday from paypal security. My husband had tried to withdraw some funds with the debit card they sent out and did it wrong. He didn't push the "from checking" option....he tried it as a credit card. Since he tried it twice they called to verify that it was us and not someone else.

Yes, Joanne called to be sure I got my debit card & to talk to me about activating it.

eastwest you can have two PayPal accounts, as long as one is business or premiere and one is personal. You can't have two personal accounts or two premiere or business accounts.

I also received a call from them a week or two ago. Like "tsunami" said, they were checking debit card activity to make sure it was the authorized user. The day before, we had been birthday shopping at Toys R Us for our 4 year old twins, so it was a hefty charge. They were making sure the card wasn't stolen.

They called me at work to see if I got the card. They were "concerned" since I didn't activate it. The girl seemed very surprised when I told her that I had already cut it up!
"Why did you do that?"
"Because I don't need it!"

east-west I have a personal account and a business account. If you check with them that is OK. I have the same address and contact info on both since I work out of my home and they have to be aware.
I have a "dummy" account that never has more than $5.00 in it for the business account so they can not do a charge back to the account.
My personal is linked to a real account but I never take payments in it I just pay out of it and use it as a link from the other account to send monewy to my bank.

Gravid,

I'm courious. I didn't quite understand how your accounts are linked. I am concerned about fraudulent chargebacks too. Can you elaborate?

Thanks!

Got the call today. Told her I didn't intend on activating the card. I didn't ask for it and didn't want it. I wanted to know where my transfer to my bank account was from March the 30th and why I had no replies to my emails about it. PayPal is walking on thin ice with me right now. She seemed surprised the money wasn't showing in my account yet. The thing with the debit card has just about become harassment. Not only was it on PayPal when I logged in (Twice) but I have also received two emails and now the phone call. PayPal can shove it. Thank you for letting me vent.

I was interested in the Paypal Debit Card and emailed them about my interest. They informed me that I would first have to set up a money market account with them. Did everyone who is getting these unwanted cards set up a money market account?

Just curious if I'm being jerked around...

The money market account is a requirement for activating the card. All of us that got it that did not ask for it that do not ahve a money market account will have to enable it first.

Jim

I would be willing to try it if they would just give me my $40.00 back. Its not like the thousands they have frozen from everyone else. Maybe they could just give me a little of that.

Yes, they called me and asked me if I was going to use the free debit card they sent me (without asking). I told her I didn't know yet until I read all the information. She said to just call her back when I want to activate it.

I still haven't read it because I suppose it is just another way to get more money out of me.

They called us too,we work nites,Woke Us Up!!..
so i told her exactly the truth..poor lady..told her i didn't appreciate the card being sent without asking, also didn't appreciate the fact they
had originally set it up for all of us to have EOA'S sent to our auction winners AGAIN WITHOUT ASKING US (& WE had to UN-Do it to stop it)instead of the opposite..they did finally STOP THAT after a few days..& what about the fact this service was promised to be FREE right?so she was nice but i told her she better check some message boards to see how people feel & it's not good..i have been a big supporter of them but this last thing was too much..sending that card was very pushy..LUCKY she never got to the social security # question with me without my coffee..LOL
overall they have been fine for me,but gee these companies have people thinking up these things THAT DON'T HAVE A CLUE in the real world how it looks to us..thanks for letting me vent..

meadowlark - I have a business account and it is linked to an account I opened just for the purpose of letting them verify me. My bank is good about extra free accounts. You could use a free online bank if your local bank is old ashioned. I only keep $5.00 in the account so if any sizable chargeback occurs they will have to actually talk to me about it to get their funds back as there is nothing there to take.
As soon as I have $100 or so in payments I transfer them to my personal account which is linked to a bank account I use and keep a balance in. Then I wire transfer to that bank account. I never use the personal account to accept funds except from my own business account. It is an extra step but I don't feel they could take a payback out of unlinked bank accounts - and if they did it would not stand up in court. I am not shy to go to the courts. I just want to be sure I will win before I do it.
I have never had problems with PayPal but so many have I want that extra protection.
If they grab the money in an account just because they know it exists when you have not linked them it would be like coming out and
towing your car away because they know where you live. I would end up getting a judgement against them before it was over.

WOW! Who would have thought that the Ebay Forum would be filled with so many threads that do not concern Ebay?Moderators - this is not an Ebay issue, rather one for the more general"on-line auction threads, no?

I am sure that many come here to hear Ebay issues and not those unrelated to that company.

Shipping, troll, whining and rants that are not specifically related to Ebay belong somewhere else.....but not here.

In doing so I am sure that you will keep the Board "topic specific" and therefore totally in keeping with the AW themes.

Thank you for your consistency.

Hi,

Thank you all for your comments and concerns.

There are calls going out to see if users are activating their cards and the security department is also calling users that activated their cards to make sure everything is legitimate.

Several concerns I saw:
1. Money Market-yes, this is required to have the debit card. I have a thread in the Partner Services Forum about Debit Cards and common questions.
2. Debit cards mailed to users-the user is free to activate or not activate the card. Demand for the debit cards was quite heavy and this was the quickest way to get them to users without an application process. You are under no obligation to activate the card.
3. Fees-users that are PayPal Preferred can offset their fees and get 1.5% back on their purchases through the card (please visit the web site for more details if needed or I can explain in the Partner Services Forum).

Please go to the Partner Services Forum with any questions on the debit card (or PayPal in general).

As a side note---account restrictons are extremely rare and they are generally cleared up quickly with the proper documentation requested from the user. Please do not fear having your account restricted, as it is a rare item and a last step. Accounts are rarely, if ever, restricted over one transactions and many users seem to fear that one charge back is going to get their account restricted.

Thank you all and have a good night

Sorry I annoyed you by asking a PayPal question.
I don't ever go read the services threads so I did not think to post there. To me PayPal is pretty relavant to eBay since almost everyone uses it. I certainally got the question answered OK. I guess we can't talk about the post office or taxes or such if it is not a direct how does it effect eBay only question.
Sure would thin the posts down. I could check in once a week.

Hi gravid,

No offense taken on my end. I just go where the posts go.

However, for speed of answer, the best bet for me is the Partner Services Forum. I try to direct users over there because it helps make my job, and the job of the moderators, a little easier.

We are closely connected with eBay users and that is why I try to spot things in this forum that may need attention.

Have a good night. I appreciate the comments and concerns.

I HOPE THEY CALL ME! I can't wait to put them on hold for about 45 minutes like their customer service people do. And when I do get done drinking coffee and eating donuts and take them off hold, the person on the other end of that phone line is going to need an ambulance ride to the emergency room to be treated for instant hearing loss and and lack of bowel control caused by large bite marks in the anal area!

PaypalDamon, previously you said PayPal was not sending out these cards unless people requested them. Are you now saying that is not the case?

By the way, for those of you getting these unsolicited calls from PayPal, make sure to ask them to put you on their "Do Not Call List."

For good measure, ask them to send you a copy of their "Do Not Call" policy. They are required by law to supply this to you on demand.

If they call you again or do not supply you with the "Do Not Call" policy you may sue them under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. See the great stopjunkcalls.com for more info!

Hi loggia,

Restrictions are rare. I have reviewed some of the BBB items and most items are not related to account restrictions.

Please divide the number of posts on a restricted account by the total number of posts in the forum and then divide it by 7 million users. You will come up with an extremely low number.Account restrictions can be cleared up quickly, in most cases, with the proper documentation.

The reasons why an account can be restricted can be found in the terms of use.

The request for debit cards was high and this was a way to get them to the hands of the users quickly. No cards are sent active and the end user has the choice on activating or not.

I wonder if you are allowed to send out MasterCard debit cards unsolicited? Anyone know?

* * *

I have never read of anyone saying a restriction was resolved quickly. The BBB, and many of your users, cite the document requests as unreasonably onerous and the process as lengthy regardless.

Paypaldamon....I don't care that the card was sent, but I don't want to be harassed about activating it. I feel that is what has happened ever since I logged into my account one day to find the message that the card was being sent. I didn't ask for it and you are saying people don't have to activate the card. Well PayPal should let the people that want it activate it and those that don't to be left alone.
The problem with my account is that it is not locked but PayPal has lost my money and I can't get an answer from them as to where it's at.
